I just reviewed the new Mountain Oak Vapors Full Virginia Fake RY4 over on the review thread. It's pretty good! Just let it steep with the cap off for a few days and let it sit with the cap on later.

Hey Luce, how do you think this RY4 compares to the non-NET tobaccos from MOV? One of the reasons I didn't like their CountRY4 was because the vapor it produced felt kind of cool, like if it had some sort of cold shot or mint/menthol in it. I also found their juices to be very aromatic, but somewhat lacking in flavor. Do you detect any of those things in this one?

Don't wait too long, Voltron. It's a limited edition juice. I'd hate to see you miss out if you're really interested. But, otoh, I'm sure Gandy wouldn't mind if you missed out. :p

You know what? If it's a limited time run like you say, then screw it. I don't wanna get hooked on a flavor and then find out it's no longer available. I guess I'll try it once it becomes a regular thing. Thanks for ruining it for me man. :p

Slightly off topic but question for those of you who have tried the 'regular' MOV tobaccos...
That funky, spicy, almost savory undertone they all have? The note that polarizes everyone into 'love it or hate it camps'?

I say it is cumin.
Discuss.

I don't have a clue what cumin tastes like, but I can say that I got a really heavy, grassy note on all the MOV tobaccos I tried. The smell was so strong that I thought there was a bottle leaking inside the package. Like you said, it moved me into the "hate it" camp. Which camp do you belong to?

Volt, you would know the smell and taste of cumin, living in PR. I am fairly sure it is one of the main spices in Sazon Goya, and it's big in other Caribbean cuisines too.

As for MOV, do I love it or hate it? HA. Depends on when you ask.;) I have small bottles of CountRY4, Gold and Just Peachy. I haven't touched any of them in months, but I can't quite bring myself to give them away or toss them either. I think I like the Just Peachy best, since the spice/cumin/whatever is offset by the peach quite a bit.

Yeah, you're right! I've definitely had cumin with my "adobo". I just haven't had in on its own, so it would be hard for me to pinpoint the flavor. So you guys get Sazon Goya down under?

Nope. There is a pathetic, tragic lack of Latin food in Australia. I get cravings like you wouldn't believe. I can remember the taste of SG very well though. It is a staple in NYC grocery stores. Both my parents used to cook with it a lot, especially when my dad would get into one of his "criollo" food moods. (He grew up in Venezuela.)

Cumin by itself smells very pungent...some people describe it as "sweaty", some people can detect it at parts-per-million levels. It is best in small amounts and mixed with other stuff. It's pretty common in Indian curries too.

The easiest way to describe it? It smells.... like MOV Gold

I don't know how "limited" the RY4 is actually going to be. I think they were just testing the waters. It's done very well and we may see more NETs in the future (that's all I can say on that as I'm held to secrecy) (ha, I sound like Mann now!!!)

I can't say, due to confidentiality, if Luce's statement about me is true!

I never thought of it that way, but that's exactly what I get.

Here in the southwestern U.S., it's usually used in Mexican food such as chili.

I wonder what that means - Do I like sweaty?

Sweaty. I have to massage this one for a while. thinking-large.jpg

I really like cumin, and absolutely love curries. For some reason it doesn't do much to move MOV up my next try list tho :p

So I would like to retract my previous statement. After these last few posts discussing MOV I dug up my bottle of Just Peachy and tried it again. Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe I'm spoiled by the likes of HHV/TPR/A+/etc., but that funky cumin/sweaty/spice is now nauseating to me. I guess I have gotten "unused" to the flavor and it's just too big a tongue-shock :D Ditching it, or maybe unloading it to anyone who wants it....maybe to prove me right, or wrong, or crazy?

I am noticing a lot of similarity between Gandalf #1 and Vita Bella, both in a RBA, same volts. Really like them both. Gandy #3 is also fantastic to me just sweeter?

I have tried a few other tobaccos from other vendors and am noticing a similar odor/taste that is like finger nail polish remover or something "pungent". Off putting to me, but others LOVE it (including my sister). Is this from a particular tobacco extract? Some of the tobaccos were listed as NET's and others not but the sensation is similar.

Ya know, I'm getting a certain "something" from The Plume Room tobaccos. I wouldn't say pungent, but nail polish remover kind of clicked. Nothing nearly so powerful, at first I was thinking slightly metallic or maybe ummm tangy? It's present in varying degrees in all the tobaccos from TPR. I can't tell yet if it's something I'll get used to. I really like a lot of the flavors but the present of this "something" makes it hard to gauge if I'll tire of these or want to reorder. I'm curious if it's something present in the base of the liquid or a result of the extract process. Whatever it is I don't get the similar sensation from hhv, ahlusion, or gej.

24-48 cap off steep. :2cool: Alcohol is used in some of the flavours.

Yep, I always do the 2 day cap off then 2 week steep. It's definately not alcohol, and I'm not saying it's necessarily unpleasant. It's a subtle and hard to describe taste or maybe even sensation. I'm vaping my early favorite TPR cuban cigar right now and it's the only one I don't get that taste from. Maybe the M type too. Like I said, it's still way too early for me to make any rounded opinion on these. The cuban sure feels like a reorder already tho.

Edit: I guess I am getting it a little bit from the cuban. But it's so subtle and the tobacco flavor is so good I really don't care.
