Dang Bill...I have to say I have come to greatly enjoy your expository style of writing about vaping! I will continue to take your advice to heart, and try some more types of "JDS" to see what I enjoy the most. :)

My experience with vaping and NETs is obviously very limited, but I can see the potential for depth and meaning as I do in my other hobbies. Thanks for the articulate explanation.

It was a nice coil, but not for me. Flavor is great, but goes through juice and battery too quick. I also used the smallest airhole on the Trident which has a tighter draw like I prefer, but going this low really needs more airflow because the vape gets so hot without it. So was a fun experiment, but going back to my regular build.

I did try my first major clouds with it. Used the biggest airhole, loaded up a 0 nic sample juice I received, and went to town with direct-to-lung hits. It was fun for a minute.. but the novelty quickly wore off. I vaped about 2ml in about 3 minutes, the juice consumption is crazy for big clouds.

lol, i tried 26 and gave up. I love my trident even though its a juice hog. Its even worse in dual coil mode. It was running so good at 9wraps 30ga 2.0ohm x 2 = 1ohm so i decided to recoil with 28. Its somewhere around 8/9 wraps 1.2ohm x 2 = 0.6ohm. This is my favorite JDS to date.

The difference is that vaping is part of a lifestyle. Many of us are addicted to nicotine or the hand-to-mouth habit. Vaping is something many people do every few hours or every few minutes. I'm unaware of a lifestyle that involves operating a flashlight every few minutes. Perhaps the guys that do these awesome battery tests on the flashlight forums are spelunkers.
well, i can sort of see where they are coming from. Im an avid cyclist and dabbled in those boards to make sure i got the brightest bulb possible. The technology evolves so quickly that the different versions of LED bulbs make a huge difference in lumen output. I went with 2 XML-T6 bulbs powered by a 18650 4pack. The whole setup was like $100 and turns nighttime into day. That being said, its been well over a year now, im sure its already outdated if i were to go back and read those forums.

Edit... but yeah I see your point I use my bike light every single day. I don't think they use their flashlights that much. Maybe most of them are military or first responders... They use flashlights a ton.

Here's my Top 10 E-Liquids of 2013 list. Most of my favorite regulars are NETs, but there were a few new (to me, anyway) NETs that made my 2013 list. What were some of yours? I'd love to hear about your favorites of the year in order to try new things in 2014 and for future review ideas. Please check out the article and leave your favorite juices of the year in the comments section. Now when is Scarfy going to start the 2013 Netty Awards thread???

Loved your reply, but I still don't get the flashlight thing. Cycling for you is fun and helps you stay healthy. Aside from that bit with Yoda in the Empire Strikes Back, I still don't get what's fun about flashlights. Again, I'm not dogging it at all. I'm a coffee, comics, videogames, and vaping nerd. A lot of my friends from one those hobbies has no idea why I'm so passionate about the others.

Hmmmm, someone needs to make a clone of Scarlett Johannson that loves coffee, comics, videogames, and vaping that would be dangerously obsessed with a nerd that loves coffee, comics, videogames, and vaping.

will do! Will I notice a big difference in flavor and performance with a good RDA or RBA over my dripping attys? (I really don't even know the difference)? I almost pulled trigger on a kayfun lite clone for $35 today, but I really have no clue what I'm doing with coil building. I figure if I can tie size 24 flies, maybe I can learn. I think I'll wait until February though - I'm already about $55 over my vape budget for JANUARY and SWMBO is not pleased....especially with Denver fly fishing show coming up :D

For your future reference, there is also this:

$21.54 SvoeMesto Kayfun v3.1 ES Styled Rebuildable Atomizer (4.5mL) - stainless steel at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I've been eyeing this for a while but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I will also need to get a battery to support it.

the honeymoon is officially over with me and Organic #1. Its lost all its luster and smokiness for me. kinda one dimensional. I dont get a sweetness but i do get the "be mine" heart candy thing that someone mentioned. I hate to say it but i think were getting a divorce. She stopped puttin out.

Edit and as much as I didnt want to like Vita Bella... I find myself longing for another bottle now that my first one is almost gone. Its my goto vape with coffee. Yummy smoky vanilla is quite nice next to a nice black cup of Bolivian in the aeropress.

Sorry to hear that :) How long have you had that juice. I think mine kind of went off the peak after 6 weeks or so but it was still not bad. I need to reorder it. It was stunning though for a while. Possibly not a long term steeper.

I'm with you, I don't get the point of the flashlight hobby either. BUT, that's a quality of many hobbies, most people who aren't into it just don't get it. Collecting stamps I don't get.. stamps? Really? Collecting baseball cards I do.. guess which I did as a kid. I get questioning looks at people when I say vaping is a hobby for me, not just smoking cessation. I could go on to describe how it's actually a very deep and enjoyable hobby, but like any fring hobbiest describing their hobby it just makes things worse lol.

I'm guessing a big part of the flashlight hobby is close to getting into mechs. Electronics, battery technology, cool looking metal tubes, performance aspects not understood by the layman, modding, etc. What's exciting about making light past that I never looked into. Maybe they are a group of spelunkers lol.

My experience is that each JDS provides its own particular kind of vaping experience, which may overlap with others, but retains its relatively unique identity. They all work, and I appreciate each for what it does well, but none is flawless or without downsides.

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it...

What Bill said here is the nuts and bolts of the situation. They all do work, and they all provide a different experience. Because of that, it's not a matter of good, better, best for all; instead it turns into personal preference, and they all really do have certain drawbacks. I often say dripping provides the best flavor, but I really should be saying that dripping provides the best flavor for me. Cartos provide a different flavor, for me it's worse, but others will prefer that difference.

Some things are more concrete, like how well a device wicks, how long it can go without maintainance, ruggedness, does it leak, can it be modded.. and on and on. Because of the concretes, advice can be given to someone who is wondering what to try, but they still have to find out if the performace is what they like. I started with cartos and standard atties (901 and 510) a few years back, and they both are still great starting points IMO, along with clearos and simple tank set-ups. Rebuildables are more advanced, and it's up to a person if they are interested when they think they are ready.

I was slow moving up from egos and atties, stuck with them for a long time and loved them. When I was curious about APVs and RBAs I took it slow and learned a lot before making purchases. Others prefer jumping in, that's ok too. In general, if your having a good time you're on the right track, if you're frustrated and not having fun it may be time to slow down or change directions.

Part of Bill's hobby is reflecting about the hobby, and he's awesome at it. That's a smart cat right there, a vaping philosopher lol. Subscribe to the Big RY4 Roundup thread even if you've never vaped an RY4 for some great reading.

So far I do like it quite a bit. Leaks a bit out of the second airhole even though it's blocked off, but I'm guessing I can fix that. Definately my prettiest dripper!

It doesn't work on my Nemmy though, the 510 connection threads stop short and it just spins and spins. That's OK though, the Nemmy is turning into my Kayfun mech, since they go together like vanilla and tobacco.

I love it! I voted Sahara Blend as my favorite tobacco in the 2013 poll. The few others you listed that I've tried I loved too; Banyan, Pinoy, Honey Cured; so I need to try the rest on your list. Definately Gambit, and that one from P.O.E.T sounds great too.

It really has been a great year for NETs, I may work on a list of my faves soon.

weird it doesn't work on the nemmy, did you try adjusting the copper center pin on the trident? Yeah its a leaky SOB. I was originally interested in the Trident because I thought when you closed off the air holes you might be able to seal it from leaking but not the case at all.

Since I'm digging the dual coil setup so much I went ahead and got a scar. Hopefully it performs the same or better. I really prefer bottom air as opposed to side air intake. with side air, even when the coil is placed just right, you still have to constantly be mindful of where the airhole is for leakage.

Haha thanks for that, didn't even check to see if the center pin is adjustable on the Trident so yes, will fit on my Nemmy. Now I just need to see if I can do something about the leaking.

Yeah, being mindful of the airhole position is the drawback to these side airhole drippers. For me it's not really an issue, I was used to that with 901 atties so I naturally hold devices with the airhole not pointing down (even with the Kayfun I do that automatically, even though it's not necessary). I can see it being a deal breaker for some though, much like the 901 was a no-go for many because of where the hole is.

Ha! I actually found his RY4 thread before I found this one :). I have a few on order from his most recent rating so we'll see. I'd love to see what he thinks of The Vape Tree's RWHY4. I just ordered that along with Banyan Tree. Bill for sure is the closest thing I've seen to a vaping sophist lol.

Raymond is also not helping. Based on his top ten, I'm thinking of placing another order for ahlusion's Honey Cured, Sahara, and Vurley while the sale is still going on. Maybe I need to slow it down a bit :). February will be my month to play with new hardware.

Is there an Ahulsion juice that is similar to Hangsen USA Mix? That's all my chica will vape, and I'm trying to get her to branch out a bit.

For me, trying juices is the most enjoyable part of the hobby. Hardware is fun too, but mainly as a distraction when I have too much juice on hand so don't want to order more. Back and forth.. never a dull moment with vaping.

Never had Hangsen juice, so can't help you there.. my guess with Ahlusion is, probably not something similar, but if there is someone will know.

"H1N1 update.. built a new 5/64 (1.98mm) 28g 10 or 11 wrap coil for the KFL. Single strand of cotton yarn wick. 1.6ohm set at 3.8v on the Provari.

What a weird little juice this is. I'm getting hints of cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, maple, something floral (almost jasmine like) and it keeps developing as the coil and wick break in.

Quite intriguing!"

I posted that almost 3 hours ago, and I've still not been able to put my finger on what all is in this juice. It's downright confusing, and if what I've read is true, it will keep changing over the next few weeks..

Very very intriguing.. :)
