GN, first off you were running really low wattage with the Cisco 3.5ohm atty. At 4.1v, you were running barely at 4.8watts. You're not going to get much of a "hit" at that level, but yes, you may more flavour overall.

Second, yes you will get a lot more flavour with more surface area (microcoil) compared to a regular coil with less wraps because the higher surface area would mean more juice being "cooked" by the coils thus creating more flavour/vapour.

This does not only apply to NETs.

NETs for the most part are notorious coil gunkers and we usually have to resort to cleaning/dry burning/replacing wicks every tank or two. This may or may not fit your style of vaping.

With regards to the Aspires, IClears, or whatever stock heads, I never was able to find one that worked to my liking with NETs or other juices. I always had to "adjust" them somehow to make them work, and thus I took to rebuilding my own coils. In short.. Stock coils do not work for me, period!

As for the Kanthal vs Nichrome question, you will have to try both and see what gives you your best solution. If you find you get better mileage/flavour out of Nichrome, then stick with it. Get a rebuildable dripping atty or tank system and get Nichrome wire to build your microcoils. Cotton or Silica for your wicking medium.

Life is complicated enough, and if you find something that works for you, apply the KISS methodology and use it.

For me, I have achieved my Nirvana using a Kayfun Lite with a 12 wrap of 28gauge Kanthal at 1.7ohms wrapped around a 5/64 drill bit. I use primarily NETs at 70/30 PG/VG from a couple of different vendors.

I was going to reply to GN's post, but this answer pretty much covers everything I would have said, plus more. Great post Dusty.

It's a mystery to me, but with Kanthal and Nichrome, some time one works for someone and the other not at all, while most seem to not notice a difference at all. For me, Nichrome just doesn't work, it mutes and adds an odd flavor that it doesn't for most others. I think some of us are just sensitive to the composition of one or another. R41 does about the same thing as Nichrome with me, though for many others that expensive wire is a godsend. All this means to me is I stick to Kanthal.

Dude, I totally forgot to add I finally cracked my VB from August. Yes, it is excellent. Similar to how the SC transformed, the VB's custards sweetness laid back a bit revealing a very nice tobacco underneath. It is one of those rare juices that is not an ADV, but then again is good at any time of day. Contrary to the GEJ claim that this is the desert island vape, it is not for me. However, it is ate say a top 10 juice for me right now

OMG. BJ's ECF account has been hacked! Either that or he's been Borged or Stepforded.

Welcome back BJ, whoever you are. :)

Just throwing this out there. Wasn't expecting to like this, but I finally broke out my 2 weeks old gorilla juice, and that thing is bloody delicious. It's basically Boba's bounty with a tinge of banana, and that tinge of banana makes sucha big but subtle difference. I get a nice rich tobacco with graham crackers (both rather heavy flavors), and that banana flavor adds a very nice uplifting flavor to it. Def keeping it in my rotation since I'd love to have a tobacco juice that's a little different and lighter than all the pure heavy NETs I'm getting.

Edit: ok nvm. Just remembered that BB isn't even a NET to begin with. Whoops.

Correct, not a NET, but Boba's is still a damn fine flavor. Gorilla Juice is good too, pretty much the same flavor with banana, though I prefer straight Boba's. I recently had Jungle Juice from Ahl that is an awesome banana NET. I'm not as big a fan as BJ though, who goes bananas for banana, though he vehemently denies it. He also loves man milk. :D

@ Dusty or anyone else, with Cisco's high-ohm coils, if I'm not mistaken, I don't believe they actually build a true micro-coil, but wrap a ton of wraps (possibly the thinnest wire they can) around a rod and simply wick it, without really making sure those coils are so compressed.

Does that sort of assumption hold any credit, would it actually still give a pretty good, micro-coil-ish result? Just by looking, I'd have probably judged their coil to have probably 10+ wraps (the wire was super thin, and the diameter of the inside of the coil was pretty tiny, where the wick goes). I could be totally off the mark completely though, the atty did have a bridge and it was hard to access it.

Good to know about the NiChrome too, it's been a long question of mine wether some are just sensitive to Kanthal vs. NiChrome and this seems to be a big factor with me - Kanthal just seems to mute literally anything I put on it. I'm sure more factors goes in it too (level of muting) but that seems to be the overall result.

I just know that for NET's, that NiChrome wired, somewhat-micro-coil-ish looking mess was what gave me such a stupendous result for my NET's and other juices. Been looking to replicate it ever since! I'm a pretty big NET fan I guess, and I've been looking so foward to finally getting my foot in the door, getting to get the results and share them with threads like this!

Were the coils were wrapped similar to the image below? This does not make it a microcoil. The wrapping and squeezing of the coils together so that it heats as one unit from the centre out, is what makes a true microcoil.

When you get it right, and wicking well, the results are indeed stupendous!

They appear to be genuine Kanger heads in original packaging but of course, it's impossible to say for sure. I soak new heads in vodka for at least an hour, rinse with water and dry overnight and they work very well, at least for a day or two until they get clogged up with netgunk. As mentioned in my previous post, I can bring them back to life somewhat with cleaning/dry-burning but they're never quite as good as new.

I was getting 3.2 ohm coils. Then I had 2.8 and 2.4 ohm. The 3.2 coils has only 6 wraps with very thin wire. The 2.8 and 2.4 ones have 7 wraps and noticeably thicker gauge wires. I'm definitely getting better performance with the lower ohm coils. I think this has to do with the total surface area of the coil interacting with the juice. I definitely hear more pops and odd sounds with the 3.2 ohm coils. I ordered 2.5 ohm head from GeJ. I'm looking forward to put these in circulation.

With these heads, my biggest problem is thinning coil wicks. After soaking and dry burning etc.., I try to clean the burned areas of the wick, and when the wick moves in an out of the coil, some strands of it get torn. This definitely deteriorates the performance over time. I've tried threading cotton wicks through these coils. But after a while, I felt like insanity was eminent on me so I stopped :)

Been chain vaping Vurley like a champ. Guess i had too much hemp in my coil. Glad it was user error.

1.8mm coil, 26ga, 5/6 wrap, 0.7ohm

That's good to read. Do you think it might have been user error with DD too or did you try that on a few different set-ups? Not that performance matters much if you don't like the taste though.

I want to point out that I never said that my DD clogged my coil or anything like that (though I accidentally inferred it), I was saying it tasted like it. The poor performance I spoke of was inextricably tied up in the flavor, not necessarily the murdering of the coils. I think I may have jumbled the ideas with my statement about it being worse than Paris for performance. What I meant was that it tasted like how Paris tastes after the coil's gone bad (and that was NOT my previous experience with DD; at least not on the first vape). Interestingly, when a liquid like Paris reeks its havoc on my coils, the coil is good and done! After I blew out DD (and I made sure it was gone), I dripped EcoPure and the coil responded as it generally does--perfectly. Sorry for not making that more clear.

I think when I get my replacement, I am going to let someone else try it with me. Jerms, you down?

What was the date on your DD? I had similar issues and thought it was a burn out, but haven't restarted from scratch yet to see if it might be the juice.

Freaking Paris. How I wish that juice would work. I LOVE it. I am burning a lot of Big Spirit with extra extract these days. Great stuff. Since my hiatus I see a whole slew of new ciggie juices from Clay. WOW. Has anyone tried the new NS Dark from NETCOM??? It looks like it might be a clean burning Euro style cig...and if so I am all over that.

My DD was ordered late November and got to me early December.

As for Paris, I may have a tip---give me a few days and I'll post the results of a little test I've been running with w2v liquids.

Reeks = to give off a strong or unpleasant smell
Wreaks = to inflict or execute (usually negatively), as in "wreaking havoc"

I love it when typing the wrong word is almost better than typing the right one. (I do this myself.) As if Paris destroyed coils just from its stench alone. Great poetry, even if unintentional.

Of course. Kind of curious as to what's up with that.

Man, I've been jealous of you all that have a B&M in your area. I've tried telling myself it's probably not all that great, just to make myself feel better. Well, I was right the first time being jealous, I just spent the last few hours at Fargo's new vape store and had a BLAST. Had a great time chatting with the guy working, and even helped a couple customers. A guy bought a Kayfun clone and I got him set-up and explained everything to him. I would love doing that for work.

It's a small shop, but they had quality devices from Kanger, Innokin, Vision, and the clones they had like the Kayfun and a few mechs where the quality clones. The downer is, because of state law, no vaping inside. I signed a petition to the mayor while there to amend the law to allow vaping in stores that only sell vape merchandise.

The guy working was really cool. He hasn't been at it as long as me, but was very knowledgable about all the products and rebuilding. They aren't hiring right now, but maybe later as they get busier, so I told him I would be in there on a regular basis until they need someone lol. Just a fun, laid-back place to hang out and talk vaping.. yes, I will be a fixture there.

yes MM mine was the same way... itll vape along just fine. performance wise but the smoke taste was not right at all. It doesnt taste like campfire it tastes like a dirty coil, even though its not. When i was complaining about vurley.... that was a different reason (coils actually gunked), even though i implied that they were both doing the same thing. i actually meant to clarify that earlier when jerms asked me if ill try DD again.
