To chime in with Jerms, CarbonThief, TheCatsPajamas, and Scarfy, I resampled my AiV Ravyn this morning. I've been doing that every week since my initial review back on January 26th. This is going on three weeks of steeping and is my third visit with Ravyn. The first was odd, the secon slightly disturbing, and this sampling is a bit more optimistic.
The difference this time seems to be what I might call greater clarity, which is my way of agreeing that some of the disturbing funkiness is diminishing. Also, I notice that the blackberry, which was only a hint when fresh---a hint strong enough to be noticeable and written about, which I did, but still only a hint---is now a definite flavor. The blackberry has bloomed and broadened. It's now melding with whatever the other flavors are, essentially taking charge of the juice's identity.
I'm reminded of my reaction to HHV's NET hybrids when they first appeared. Gandalf (now Legend) was so unexpected, a real game-changer. I loved it for quite awhile, although my ardor cooled somewhat later. Ravyn hits me as similarly unexpected. Nothing like GeJ NETs, which impress me almost entirely as straight tobacco flavors (I enjoy them for that very quality of pure tobacco). Instead, like HHV, Ravyn's flavor profile ranges far afield from tobacco. The difference for me between Ravyn and the HHV NETs is that HHV's are complex hybrids that inspire instant pleasure (witness their huge popularity). Ravyn is complicated rather than complex, and not as immediately pleasing (at least not to me). I love some of AiV's juices---Lemon Loves Cakes and Berry Lil' Cheesecake are to die for---but I'm not sure that I like Ravyn.
That's not meant as slam. I loved Gandalf at first. Now I just like it. I don't love Ravyn, but who knows how I'll feel in six months? It's a different journey.
