I went out and bout myself an ohm reader even though I had a PV that reads ohms. Multi meters are great because you can use them not only to read ohms but also to check battery voltages and such. Not sure where you are located in the US but I bought an inexpensive one from Harbor Freights for about $10USD

Best advice I could give is what was given to me when I started using mechs- Do your research on batteries, learn about ohms law.

Lot's of great info around here, check Baditude's blog here The guy is an encyclopedia of everything vape

Here and there
I agree. Battery safety and ohms law is a must when working with mechs. You never want to exceed the amperage limit on the batteries you are using. It's easy to find information about the limits of your batteries and there's a lot of online calculators to help with ohms law if your unfamiliar with it. A multimeter will come in handy but is not necessarily required if you have a mod that can read the ohms but I would still recommend one.
