Do I ever. I spent 3 years taking cartos apart and studying them. :facepalm:

The wicks are silica and they don't burn. The little blanket or "diaper" that is often wrapped around the coil is cotton--and it burns like crazy when not completely wet. The filler is just some kind of polyester batting that scorches and melts and tastes like car on fire.

Wanna see a picture? :)

I've never used boge or ikenvape or smoktech but I have use a cartridge type cigalike and opened up alot of them and think I have a good idea what the polyfill material might look like; the one I've seen looks like a sort of synthetic sponge material; and its not the kind of material I'd want to be vaping with on a hot coil.

What puzzles me, is unlike the clearos and rebuildables, I never hear about people taking out the stuff from a carto and putting in their own choice of silica, cotton, or even mesh!! I can't believe it is because the taste of the polyfill is all that good;

Maybe what happens is in part that tinkerer types just don't end up with cartos for the most part; people who can afford it and just want a hazzle free vape go the carto way and just get used to the taste of their choice of polyfill.

For a long time, I couldn't taste the filler material in cartos and vaped with them for 8 months. After using RTA's for about 3 weeks, suddenly, to my dismay and discontent, I could taste that material and it ruined it for me. This is why I suggested the Sophia (or Killer, or several others) a few posts back. You can rebuild these devices with any setup you like. But they are RBA's, and do require the knowledge, gear, tools, and inclination to do it. That's my vape zone now, so I am interested in it, but the Sophia is not in my vape budget at the moment. Maybe some day, though. YMMV.

From my archives: ;)

It's not easy to mod a cartomizer. Once you open it up, it's pretty much dead. That's why the industry decided to go the fillerless way.

That said, the Aspire line, the newest and the best tasting, IMHO, clearomizer, is a combination of fillerless (like the Kangers) and a bit of carto-like filler for better wicking. :)

I didn't understand the "with any setup you like".

I'm familiar with the Sophia and would love to have one too; if I did I would use it in a carto tank; I can't imagine using it anywhere else?

Seems to me it can be used like a 306 also.

Because you can build you own coil and wick and use any setup with a coil and wick that you like. It's an RBA, right? Infinite number of builds possible.

Experiment and you'll find your own bliss in no time!

VERY well written Katya. I tried to simplify it in an earlier post in this thread but I think you blew me out of the water with this one. I have been an electronics/avionics technician for 28 years and know my job well but I'm absolutely horrible at explaining things so concisely. Hopefully your post will help those new to mods and vaping in general to truly understand why so many folks go to VW devices and what the benefits are to using one. I have a few myself but my go-to is still my Provari with the KFL. By the way, I didn't quote your entire post so as not to clutter up the thread.

Oh; yeah; oh, you also mean its an RBA but not an RTA;

I dunno it's kinda wierd to me how when talking about the Sophia, its almost as if there's some deliberate avoidance of mentioning that it goes in a carto tank.

Wouldn't surprise me if alot of people who could afford it and just bought one to try out had no idea that the setup it goes with is a carto tank.

Well, since you said you already knew about the Sophia, I didn't think you needed reminding. Yes, the Sophia was designed to go into a carto tank, and since I brought it up during our carto discussion, I thought it was apropos and understood. Might want to up your nic a bit, friend.

:blush:

Why thank you. Coming from a pro, it means a lot. The toughest part is explaining dual coils configured in parallel. A lot of new vapers have a problem with that... I did myself. :facepalm:

About $95 shipped to U.S. Maybe $80 shipped from the U.S. Perhaps a bit less with shopping.

I would hope that you wouldn't try to compare an RBA like the Sophia to a consumable like the Ikenvape carto. Two different things. But you know this. Are you thinking about one?
I'm on a fixed income. I can't afford one.

Bad, have you been following the Sophia? YouTube videos, threads, etc.? The reason I ask is that I haven't tried one yet, but if it's good, really good, I would like to try it and perhaps get one. I was wondering if you have heard good things about it or not? I always appreciate your sage advice, my friend. Your two cents, perhaps?

Very nice--enjoy! How do you like that Nautilus? I want one, but I'm waiting for a mini version--that thing is massive. :D

One piece of unsolicited advice--don't stockpile. Get some extra coils for your tanks and spend some time with what you've got so far. The technology is changing all the time. Next week those tanks may already have become obsolete. :)

Happy vaping!

View attachment 307773 love the new tanks provari on the way

You won't be disappointed with your new Provari. I have 2 myself. I saw the zombie edition and couldn't resist. I even got it with the green LED so everything would match. I also bought a green center piece for my Kayfun.
