We finally got this stuff up here, I've been using crappy local organic, tastes horrible when you first start it. I got a big bundle of pads coming. I heard you should pull the surface layer off top and bottom of the pad before using. What's the deal with this stuff? Just spent 22 bucks for it, so I'm hoping I get a lot... but not sure of the correct way to use it.

The KGD pads are really easy to work with.

You can peel the very thin outside layers off, you'll notice those two layers are not as fluffy. Depending on what you're wicking you can peel off one layer, both layers, or leave the outside layers intact. I tend to leave one layer on with smaller coils and no outside layers for larger coils. The surface layer is thin, but dense, so you can use it to your advantage in some situations.

Besides the layers you want to make sure all the fibers run in the same direction and the section is even/smooth. You don't really need to shape it or roll it. Just roll the tip tight to get through the coil. Make sure when you pull the cotton through you feel some resistance, but not loose fitting. It's good put tension on both tails as you pull it through the coil. Don't oversature and it's perfect.

I peel the layers off KGD and found it works great. you will notice when you wet the cotton for the first time how much faster it sucks up the juice and how much more it seems to hold compared to regular OC. I think you can still taste the "fresh wick" taste, but with KGD it goes away very fast. I used to leave the outer layers intact before I found out about peeling it first, Honestly, I didn't see much of a difference except it seems much easier to work with when you do.

I agree. It's much easier to gauge how much cotton to use when the dense outer layers are off. As you said it pulls the liquid in much quicker with the outer layers peeled off.

I save the outer layers too, they can come in handy for intricate wicking or if you want to close a gap somewhere. I've also rolled the outer later up into a wick and found it works pretty well. Since the outer layer is thin, but dense, you can roll up a good amount of it and use it as a regular wick. It might actually hold more liquid, but it might not transport it as quickly as the fluffy stuff.

I peeled off the very top layers, then cut a strip to size, then trimmed one end to a point to get through the coil. Incredible taste over regular domestic organic, and does seem to wick better much better as well. It's always a challenge to wick my Fogger Bigs, but this stuff is perfect. Wonder when we'll see cotton bacon and stuff like that up here?

Is there a difference between KGD and Muji or is it just a different name for the same stuff?
In my opinion if there is a difference it certainly doesn't justify the extra cost of kgd over muni but I'm sure others will disagree. I actually think they are exactly the same. They even look the same under a microscope to my eye! The pads are different sizes though!!

I keep a small box of Sally's Beauty Supply cotton around for backup and it's not bad for vaping. When I have KGD I use that more often. Right now, I have three packs of KGD in the mail that should be here this week.

What I like about KGD is the parallel fibers and lack of knots and lumps in the material. It just wicks more efficiently than any other cotton I've used.

have you ever bought KGD cotton pads?? They are high-end csometic products and therefore the price is overinflated! At least in UK...

Yup, thats the stuff ... Authentic KGD Japanese Cotton Pads (the same product women use for cosmetics) ... cheaper than dirt for making wicks ... even if it was triple the price, the cost of this stuff for wicking is almost nothing.
