ok so I smoked about a pack of Newport 100s a day. I started gaping using a i23 battery and a nautilus mini tip. I started with a 18mg and coughed up a long every time. Burnt the back of my throat just bad. Than I went to a 12mg and I kept getting cravings. So I tried another flavor 18 and same thing. So today I went out and got a 12mg flavor and I'm still coughing and still throat burning. Like I can't figure out what the issue is. The 1st 12mg flavor didn't hurt. Didn't burn. But kept wanting a cig. Than this 12 mg I'm coughing burning and I can't keep doing it. What am I doing wrong

Might be the Pg/Vg ratio of the e-liquids that you have tried. Pg (propylene glycol) contributes to the "throat hit", and is the main flavor carrier. Vg (vegetable glycerin) mainly contributes to the vapor production. Different manufacturers produce different Pg/Vg ratio's, and many offer custom blends of your choosing when you order online. If you can find the ones who offer a higher Vg ratio, or even all-vg, they would be worth a try.

Dripeez, Virgin Vapers, and VapeRite are three online vendors that I've used which offer customized e-liquids, and the last two listed also offer "sample packs" to try small quantities to see if you will like the flavor.

I know I'm not a fan of the higher Pg ratios, as they vape too harsh. I use a 25/75 or 100% Vg blend if I can.

Typical recommendations for nic levels are:

1/2 pack per day or less = 6 mg nicotine
1 ppd = 12 mg
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
2 ppd = 24 mg
You might need a juice attachment that uses a higher resistance (ohm) coil.

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Slower, Which Will Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life
I hope this helps. Don't give up. Finding the right flavor/e-liquid is just as important as finding the right gear to use. If there is a vape shop with a juice flavor testing station/bar within reasonable driving distance to you, it would help you find something that you can vape.

HI @Onebazbo , and welcome to the forum. There is no "one juice for everyone". Different issues can cause the throat hit/burning. Nicotine and PG are the two largest contributors. Switching to a higher VG based juice can help with this. However some ingredients in juice can do the same, such as menthol, cinnamon, koolada... You might also try a 6 mg juice, but keep the 12 and 18 handy...see below.

As to the coughing : A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette | E-Cigarette Forum I would also add mouth to lung rather than lung hits could help.

I would stick with the 12 to start, but quite possibly 6mg. I kept a cheap clearo/tank filled with the next higher nic (18) when I was quitting. Then when I didn't feel the 12 was working I would take a hit off the 18mg and then go back to the regular 12 mg. It usually took about 3 days to a week for me to get adjusted, then I was ok with the lower nic level. I used this same technique as I lowered my nicotine in steps from where I started to the 3 and less I now enjoy.

Everyone goes thru an adjustment when switching from cigs to vape...you can do this!

Good luck in your journey.

Hello @Onebazbo.

Here's me two cents:

I have two tanks. 1 is a kangertech genitank with a 1.5 ohm coil. I mainly use this for my higher nic urges (12mg). For my regular vaping I use the innokin iSub tank, it comes with a 0.5 ohm coil. This I use with 3mg nic.

When I first started subohming I mistakenly got a 80/20 pg/vg juice... it was awful on the iSub... made me cough all day (3mg nic)... The same juice in the genitank is fantastic! So the pg/vg ratio is also very important.

So there... you might want to get a similar setup and don't get overwhelmed... I went from a pack a day to 0 just vaping...
