I quit cold turkey, never had an issue. It does seem pointless to me to use these things because they're still pumping nicotine into your body which is harmful. This hasn't even been presented as a method of quitting, just an alternative to smoking. I've heard hypnotherapy is effective for many people.

I responded to her post:
And what is wrong with an alternative? If Big tobacco came out with a cigarette that was free of tar, ammonia, arcenic, carbon monoxide and 99% of the other harmful substances regular tobacco contains AND it was easy to use, didn't create second-hand smoke, was affordable and palatable, would you tell people who can't or won't quit smoking to just keep using the regular tobacco, just because the new cigarette still has "some" harmful chemicals left?

That's like telling an obese person, who is trying to eat healthier, to just keep eating Ben & Jerry's, because frozen yogurt still contains "some" fat.
