There is a thread here in the diy section somewhere, where someone did a sort of tutorial on oak barrel aging. He did some custard and i think a few other types in it.Do a search in this section and the recipes section at the top,it's in one of these, just search barrel or oak and it should come up.

Wizard is a good site to order from, but another great site is Bullcity vapor, they have a great selection, good prices, and they are a registered supplier here on the forum.

I'm considering getting into making my own juice but I have no idea where to begin.

I mean - I know I need nic base, VG/PG, flavorings, and some bottles and lab ware but other than that I'm lost.

Can I get some help here? Please :)

Here's some research recommendations

Read my blogs before getting started

E-Cigarette Forum - dannyv45 - Blogs

then read hoosier's blogs.

E-Cigarette Forum - Hoosier - Blogs

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

Once you've got some research under your belt it will start to make sense and you will be better able to formulate questions to what you don't understand.

Personally I've been looking into DIY a bit lately, so it's not all a foreign language at this point.
I'm not getting into extracts yet, but I will at some point I imagine since I loved my drum tobacco. I have some concern though, wouldn't that add more hazard to vaping as you are likely to extract the pesticides and such that were used during the cultivation process of the tobacco? Obviously it's still better than smoking IMO since you aren't inhaling burning fibers, but seems like it would be less healthier than other vaping as you are extracting the 300+ chemicals that are associated to tobacco. I'm basically talking out of my ... though.

As far as 100mg, that's equivalent to 10% nic, right?
I think 12mg is 1.2% so that would stand to reason...

People in the tobacco extraction subforum list good places to get organically grown tobacco leaves without the extra garbage. It is more expensive than store tobacco, but I hear a little bit goes a long way (much longer than smoking it).

Regarding mg vs. %, you are correct. Whatever the mg/ml concentration is, the % is one tenth of that.

LOL... "the usual"..... like I've ordered DIY supplies before . Never mind

..... I'll read the blog

Be careful how you react to help others are trying to give you. You've just been given some very good advice by one of the top regarded experts regarding reading those recommended blogs. I would look at the blogs before dismissing this great advice. In my blogs it spells out quite clearly what a first time DYIer should purchase. Has a walk through on your first mix and great detail on steeping. So have a read then come back to the thread and ask questions. I'll bet you'll not have many questions and the ones you do have you'll know exactly how to clearly ask them. Hoosier gives some great advanced advice on fine tuning your mix. He was an invaluable asset to me when I first started out and I still learn from him today.

As stated in post #26... I've been reading your blog. Great info by the way.

Thanks Ron!
and add another bottle of strait vg to maybe bump me over that free shipping barrier.

Anything else I should add to the order? Or anything I should order more of?

To me, it somewhat depends on where you live. In a pinch I could get to Walmart and get some vg. Not so much the case with my getting pg.

Nicotine is an online order for me. It's of course up to you, and starting out it looks like you are fine for your 3mg level. You mention you might make some juice for others. If so, I'd check their level of nicotine desire. You might wish to check some of the recent nicotine related posts here. You may notice folks buying liters of nicotine. There's a reason for that. :)

It almost never fails that as soon as I complete an order, somebody here will post a recipe that I want to try. I may have some of the flavors, or something close, but it always seems I'm lacking something important. Take a look around and see what you might like to try. Delivery costs, while fair, might cost more than a small flavor order.

If you like tangerine, Cappela's makes a fine flavor to use.
Just my :2c:

And, I didn't/don't find my reply to his.... "the usual"... at all disrespectful. How am I supposed to know what "the usual" is? That's why I am here asking.

I am new to DIY but hardly new to vaping.

I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it and hoosier can sometimes be a bit short. What he was implying was to read the blogs as I see you did. So if you have questions please ask away.

Well I'd found this juice by 28 days vape, whereby they steep their juice in oak barrels for...wait for it..... 28 days. And I wanted to buy but the price is kinda high just to try a juice I might not like. That's why I was looking to see if I could steep some unflavored stuff in a whiskey oak barrel.

Well...since you list your location as "Paradise", I would have to guess there's Plenty of used whiskey barrels lying around everywhere for the taking! :)

If not, go to one of your local wine or beer homebrewing stores and get yourself a small bag of wood chips or cubes. The definition of Paradise certainly must guarantee a plethora of such stores in your area! :D

Soak your wood in some pg for a few weeks, strain through a paper coffee filter and use some of this pg in your recipe.(To taste)

While this will work, I myself go through some extra steps. Since you mention your lack of desire in mixing, I won't overburden you. :)

Yup that's what I was hoping to hear. I guess I can buy some flavors to go along with the barrel steep?

Oh and I already have whiskey/rum barrels, previously chard and ready to go

You can certainly add the other flavors as you wish. Depending on how much headspace there might be in the barrel, I might be a bit concerned of some flavor components losing some strenght.

I'm going to tag along too (bump).
I'm planning on making a wizard labs purchase later this month to try my hand at DIY. Save me some money and maybe recoup some costs by selling to friends ($5/30 ml is a great deal for both of us - provided my juice is any good...)

After doing some research, I filled up a cart on WizarLabs.us for about $60. I'd probably have to buy more vg/pg soon, but $60 would make me over 240ml of juice, so I think it's more than justifiable as that's about what I would pay for 90ml (3x30ml).

My cart:
-24mg nic in vg 120ml (no need for 100%.. I vape 3mg and getting it at 24 so I can dial it up for friends)
-Vg 120ml (to cut 24mg nic juice down)
-5x30 ml bottles in Amber glass
-5x3ml bottles (for making small test batches)
-9x syringes: 3 each: 1ml,10ml,20ml
-9x 20ga blunt tip syringe needle tips
-15 flavors at about $1.50 each mostly TFA

46 items for $55 + tax&ship

Pretty much what I got in from WL last week. But I went with the 100mg/ml or 10% nicotine in a pg base. It makes the math easier...3mls of nicotine to 30mls of pg/vg/flavors makes a 10mg nicotine vape or 1.0%.
I still use a DIY calculator to double check my figures. You can get PG by the gallon at Tractor Supply stores as well as syringes and needles. VG at Walmart, Walgreens etc.

That's a good thought! I think I'll adopt that!

There's a couple of good threads on oak barrel steeping. I was involved with these threads and had the oppertunity to sample the results and I must say I was impressed.
