Mechs are outdated technology?

Mechs are not technology at all. They are a circuit that gets completed when you hit the "GO" button

Exactly.

Put another way, mechs are "different" technology. "Outdated" implies an older technology that has fallen by the wayside, but mechs as a technology are basically "newer" than KR808 batteries. Mechs have their place, and that is sub-ohm vaping (the value of which is discussed in other threads...) If you use a mech with a CE4, or a ProTank, or a Vivi-Nova, you are just using what fasttech calls a "battery compartment" and you don't get protection circuits. But do you need protection circuits with a standard ohm commercial device? Probably not. Should you have protection circuits? Perhaps. But the risk is vastly less than it is for the sub-ohm crowd.

I thought it was really good of GG to post the battery safety for noobs video where he admitted to doing stupid stuff in an earlier video. I like his videos, and I'm going to keep watching them. But I never use a single source of info when I'm doing research.

I do watch GGs reviews of gear. I find he often finds things that annoy him that others do not.

That said I also watch PBusardo and several other people's reviews when I am considering a purchase. I just feel that many perspectives add up to better all around information when buying something you cannot go to the store and test drive. :)

I have a rule of thumb, if someone pronounces "mAh" as "mahhh" then they are not to be relied upon for intelligent analysis.

One of my co-workers insisted on calling pounds libs - so 20lbs became 20 libs. It used to drive me absolutely crazy.

He was a super-smart guy though, I think he did it just to mess with me.

Didn't he release an "apology" video about battery safety and checking resistance?

Yes he did, which was the right thing to do. Every person has their faults and people on YouTube no matter who they are have faults too. He apologized and told people the dangers and said he was foolish. Then he pointed people to the right place to get good info. Over all I like Grimm and his videos, though maybe a small part of that is we're both covered in tattoos and love death metal lol.

When I watch instructional videos, I watch several from different people. Everdone does stuff a bit differently, and I think that something can be learned from them all, good and bad, I knd of feel likeou if you are stupid enough to believe everything you see on You Tube, you take your chances,'

ETA: I am not saying anyone here is stupid. Influenced may have been a better choice of words.

I like GG for his reviews and tutorials even though i don't agree with all of them.He gives his honest opinion even though he burps a lot when he toots :)

As for this thread and some people sayin that mech mods are unsafe for batteries, that is not true for REOs because the spring will collapse and break the connection. And the good thing is I can replace the spring easily if it ever happened to me. Just a tiny screwdriver and a spring replacement with no soldering at all.

There was someone who had problems with the mech REOs who was using the wrong battery and that is a user error not the fault of REO.

thats all

To many dumb people in this world to have (a circuitry device) mech around for them to hurt themselves. I for 1 don't want the headache when my vv mod does the work for me all I have to do is build the coil and add a wick and then check it while on my mod set volts and I am vaping away, now yes I can learn my coil wraps by heart and know my batteries and it wouldn't be that hard at all after but my main problem is beginners jumping right into it and hurting themselves cause their dumb, remove the risk and deshelf the product. Whole reason I wanted to quit smoking and vape so bad.

Meh. Hasn't stopped ...... from hurting themselves and suing in the past and won't stop 'em in the future. As Charles Dickens wrote in Oliver Twist, "The law is an ...."

In the past 2 years of vaping in the US how many medically treated vap injury's do we know about? You can count them on one hand. So walking has caused more injury's than vaping in any form. So has ridding bicycles, cars, hammers, the list goes on and on.

I guess I could see the nanny persons point of view even a little if we were seeing even one injury per week but to the best of my knowledge we are not.

It is a fair statement to say there may be risks involved with pushing your equipment to unintended limits.

It is also a fair statement to say risks can be lowered dramatically buy knowing what those limits are, and what your equipment is or is not capable of doing.

To simply blanket something by saying its stupid, dumb, bad ect.... is in its self a statement of ignorance.

The perception that building a crappy coil and pressing the switch on your mechanical mod will result in a injury is just not true.

I would like to see more people inform them selves before they tinker, but I just do not see the cause for alarm the nanny portion of our community is raising.

My definition of a nanny personality

Telling someone what they should or should not do not from a perspective of concern or care, but rather just because they know whats best for the world. They do not need experience and understanding they just know what is best for you and you need to do as they say or you are, Dumb,Stupid,Ignorant and you should not exist.
