Watching the above video might help. I have a hunch it's a bad clearo though. If it wasn't working in the store, it probably won't get better. It's pretty rare for a genuine Kanger Evod to be bad right out of the box, but these are obviously knock off non-brand-name clearos. We all know how poorly knockoffs perform.

If it doesn't improve, I would return to the salesman who sold it to you and tell him he sold you a knockoff Evod clearomizer. It didn't work in the store and its still not working. Demand either a refund or a replacement and let him know in no uncertain terms that unless he cooperates to your wishes he has lost a potential customer.

There's great advice above about cleaning the "tank" in case the "burnt" flavor is stuck in there.
And you got a nice little vaping device - just have to work the kinks out.

One question I haven't seen answered is regarding the juice you got.
Even if you get the tank working right and smoothly making vapor without burnt taste - the vapor still may hurt your throat if the juice isn't good for you.

When you buy juice, you can choose the nicotine strength, and can choose juice that's got different ratios of PG and VG.
VG tends to make more vapor. PG provides more "throat hit" (which some people like - to simulate smoking).
Your juice might be
a) too high in nicotine
b) too much PG
c) too "fresh" if the store made it - some juice tastes better after it's been sitting for a week or two!

Do you know the strength and PG/VG of your juice? Do you know if it's different than the stuff you tasted in the store?

It's possible that for "store tasting" they'd use NO Nicotine, or LOW Nicotine - but then selling to you, as someone who's going to try to quit cigarettes, they might recommend or provide HIGH nicotine!

Thanks so much, guys! I'm thinking it IS the coil thingie that goes in the tank gizmo! I followed the step-by-step instructions the best I could and rinsed the coil thingie in scalding hot water, dabbed it dry, then put it all back together and tried it again...

It seems to be a LOT better now. Almost no burnt taste and very little irritation to my throat!

I think I'll go back later tonight or tomorrow and ask the guy for a new coil thingie... I think he'd help me out, no problem. So I need to ask for a 2.2 or 2.0 coil?

And someone mentioned a video on how to 'prime' it correctly? Could someone please link me to one of those?

Thanks again, and MTLBYAKY

I'm on 11 MG nic... the guy said that was equivalent to light cigarettes? I used to smoke Marlboro Menthol Gold 100s. I've used higher nic before with the cigarette lookalikes without any problem... it might be a problem with the liquid, but I'm not so sure it's the nic content that's the problem.

Weird thing is, I tried about 12 different liquids in an identical system in the store and it was perfect! I was so excited to buy it because I was really just that impressed! Then I actually plop down money and I can barely use it! I'm about ready to cry! :(

Everyone is right about letting the coils soak up the juice..also when you are tasting juice in a shop they probably have steeped. You most likely had it mixed there. These can take a couple of weeks to steep. If you happen to want to use them right away ask them if they have any pre-mixed steeped juice. Unsteeped juice can taste pretty funky

I honestly don't know the PG/VG ratio, and the bottle doesn't say. I just know that they are both 11 MG nic. When vaping on the cigarette lookalikes, I have vaped both low and high nic with zero problems. I don't know the PG/VG ratio on those, either.

In the store, he had all the flavors they offer already in the little tank gizmos, labeled. He was having me try the low (11MG) nic samples, he was having my son try the 0 nic samples, since he is a non-smoker and just wanted to try the flavors.

The labels on the eliquid just say 'ZEROCiG' and the flavor and nic MGs... the cherry has a warning about keeping out of the reach of children but the butterscotch does not; it actually says '1.1' after 'butterscotch'. Not sure what that means.

I don't know if this matters, but these were discounted eliquids - 2 for $10.

Great advice from IBCR. I would try that 1st.
If that doesn't work I would go back to the store & have them set it up for you so it hits perfectly. That way you will know how to use it & can be happy right there at the store. Have them fill it up with your liquid & then you can vape it in the store. You should walk out of there happy.
Then it just a matter of keeping Liquids in your Evod knock off.
Once they get it going you shouldn't have any problems anymore. Those Evods, when working properly don't usually give burnt or dry hits.

I would suggest getting a brand name Kanger Evod anyway. So you have a back up or want to taste different liquids. Then your gonna need some replacement heads. I get mine from Discount Vapers. That way you have backups which is key to proper vaping. Backups for everything.

Keep learning everything you can on ECF, Youtube, etc. Be sure to keep asking ECF questions. That's what we're all here for.
Good luck & hope it works out for you.

If your not comfortable with taking it apart and cleaning it, I would definitely take it back and have them get you a new coil and replace it for you. At my shop I like to show folks how to tear down the setup and put it back together. They should have fully explained everything to you. Though it may seem intimidating, if you take it back and watch them replace the coil unit, you'll see how simple it is.

The guy was actually really great. He spent over an hour showing me everything. He did show me how to take it apart, how to put in the liquid, etc, but I'm not very mechanically inclined, and it was all a bit overwhelming. I did follow the step-by-step instructions shown here in this thread and that helped immensely, so I think it is the coil I have somehow managed to mess up within seconds of owning it, LOL!

This is the eliquid I purchased: eliquid.jpg

I am not familiar with the device you purchased. However, if it is like the devices pictured above it could be that the carto (the part that holds the e-juice) got burned when you first fired for the first time at the store without the filler material inside the cart being properly saturated. PBusardo has a video that shows what happens to carts if they are not primed properly if you want to see what the problem could be.
If the above comment is what you are talking about, this poster is confused. He's talking about a cartomizer, which is entirely different from a clearomizer like you have.

Are the replacement heads the coil thingies? The guy said they were $2.99 each - is that too high of a price?

Mehh. Not for a brick and mortar joint. They have overhead and other costs to cover.

Glad to hear that you've solved the problem! The system you have really is a good performer.

Enjoy, young lady.

You can get them at about $6 for a pack of 5 online.
But you pay shipping, and can't stand there while someone shows you how to change it, and replaces the first one you accidentally burnt :). Once you get going, you will probably be able to add a pack of coils to an online order for juice or something, and pay a bit less.
Or maybe you'll start fiddling with things, and learn to "rebuild" coils - this is where you take them apart, and replace the wire inside, and it's like new. This cuts your cost to pennies - and it's probably therapeutic, successfully fixing something itsy bitsy so it works better than new.
