Trump to nominate Hahn as FDA commissioner
I'm searching to see what, if anything, he's said about vaping.

"Hahn, chief medical executive of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, is HHS Secretary Alex Azar’s top choice for the job."
Doesn't sound good.
A quick search Didn't come up with much about Stephan Hahn and e-Cigarette.
Hoping this is a Good Sign...
Hahn is also a longtime GOP donor, according to Federal Election Commission records, having contributed to Republican presidential campaigns dating at least as far back to George W. Bush’s 2004 presidential run.
And unlike some past FDA commissioners, he has accepted relatively little money from the drug and medical device industries. According to CMS’ Open Payments database, which tracks industry contributions to doctors, Hahn received roughly $1,000 in travel and lodging fees from radiation oncology device company Varian Medical Systems in 2017.
Cancer specialist is frontrunner for FDA commissioner
... But having followed 3 or 4 FDA Commissionaires now, I'm Not Holding My Breath.
Especially coming in at the e-Cigarette Summit of Mt. Hype.
I am encouraged that he's been with M.D. Anderson, the best cancer hospital in Texas, and one of the best in the country. He is not someone who is likely to ignore how dangerous cigarettes are. Of course he might be convinced that the IQOS are the best way to go for harm reduction.
Yeah, but with the regs in place and the date set and pressure from the judicial branch, it seems unlikely to get better either --- even if the new Commissioner were a solid advocate for vaping. That little voice in My Head keeps say'n... "It can't get worse. It Just Can't Get Worse. It Can't!"
So maybe this FDA Nominee is a Turning Point?
I Hope So.

I do too! He might turn out to be horrible for vaping, but I am encouraged that -- just maybe -- he'll help us!
Well, the coming PMTA process pretty much spells doom for the vaping industry in the US as we know it --- probably including all vape shops, all e-liquid makers, and even DIY (I, for one, don't think Nic-base will slip under the radar). What's left to get worse?Get Better? Seriously?
No One is thinking it is going to Get Better. What we are Concerned about is it Getting Worse.
We're, or at least I am, thinking about the PMTA Process that is coming.
The hysteria continues and in order to combat illegal bootleggers laws get passed criminalizing possession of high strength nic, copious quantities of raw materials, etc...don't forget, they can still toss you in a cage for owning a living plant.. What's left to get worse?
... What's left to get worse?
Well, that's not really within the purview of the FDA Commissioner and will or won't happen regardless of whether the FDA Commish is pro-, neutral-, or anti-vaping.The hysteria continues and in order to combat illegal bootleggers laws get passed criminalizing possession of high strength nic, copious quantities of raw materials, etc...don't forget, they can still toss you in a cage for owning a living plant.
Well, I'm expecting most of the above as pretty much given (perhaps with minor modifications) ... I don't see a new captain turning the ship.FDA sponsored FUD like what we have seen from the CDC
Mitch Zeller continuing as CTP Director
Continued Stacked Tobacco Control Committees/Advisory Panels
No Flavors
12mg/ml Limit on Nicotine Pods/Carts
No Internet Sales
Rejected 1st Round PMTA's
No Subsequent approved SE Applications

I agree, that action would need to be carried out by legislators. side issue, but a plausible outcome if this train keeps rolling downhill with no brakes.Well, that's not really within the purview of the FDA Commissioner and will or won't happen regardless of whether the FDA Commish is pro-, neutral-, or anti-vaping.
I don't think they HAVE to happen ... But, unless the new Captain is a total radical (meaning: balanced, thoughtful, in possession of common sense, believes in evidence-based decision making, AND is willing to pull really hard on the wheel (which might only mean a new Commissioner will be found)), that's the harbour the ship is already headed for. (imho).None of the things I listed have to Happen.
All it Takes is someone with some Common Sense. And enough Spine to admit that the Teen Use Issue Isn't going to be Effected if they are Implemented.
So let's Consider "Public Health" for a change. And Start doing something that Promotes THR. Instead of Stifling it.
Things can always get worse, but I won't spell out the ways because I don't wish to give them any ideas. That little voice in My Head keeps say'n... "It can't get worse. It Just Can't Get Worse. It Can't!"
