So, would the center post and pin fit on the top and bottom of my shorty?

The threading on the the top and the bottom are the same for the regular and the shorty. You need a matched set of tank, center pin and center post for the length you want. So in my case I have a reg tank/post/pin and a shorty tank/post/pin and one set of end caps.

I used an old tank I had from the days that I wasted so much m,oney on Ce2's Ce3's Curtos, attys and everything else. Now I just have my did and only have to worry about mesh and wire. But luckily I saved my old junk. But there are compnies out there that sell tubing and you can buy a tube cutter at home depot. I think maybe McMaster-Carr has tubing. Someone else might know.

I removed all 3 brass nuts and bent the SS mesh closer to the positive pole. In fact, the wick is touching the pole... No more hotspot! :)

And now I'm vaping like a dragon! :D

Read my post a few pages back about flow dynamics. You're cutting yourself short by not using the nuts like you're supposed to.

Out of sheer curiosity would anyone know offhand the approximate length of wire that can be reasonably used in one of these.

I did some calculations based on rweschler's ohm rating and it seems like he's using approximately 1.25 inches of 30 gauge for a 3 coil wrap. Anyone have any idea what the maximum length of wire that could be used would be, in say a 5 coil wrap(if that's possible). Perhaps 1.75 inches?. Trying to stock the right AWG of Kanthal in order to meet my desired ohm rating.

I know with variable voltage I can simply adjust the voltage but I find that with approximately 7 watts pumped through a 2.2ohm(3.9 volts) coil as opposed to the same 7 watts pumped through a 3.2ohm(4.8 volts) coil my batteries just get murdered on the 2ohm. Lose about half my vape time. It seems odd to me because technically the draw on the battery is not that much greater.

Edit: I've tested my battery life on matching Penelope's with 2ohm and 3ohm coils and with the same watts, different voltages....my battery life just gets killed on the 2ohm coils.

Edit 2: Amp/Watt mixup. Bleah.
