I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has posted such helpful tips for the DID!

I was initially struggling with getting a coil setup that didn't have bouncing ohms.

I read through the help index post #2596 (THANK YOU), and found all the answers I could have ever needed, by just clicking the links. That index is beyond great!

I found out that I was doing a lot wrong:
#1 - My nuts were on wrong - Yep, more nuts! I had them all different ways, except correctly; having the lower nut and the concave face pointing up, and having the top nut with it's concave face pointing down.
#2 - I was not oxidizing the wick enough, or taking my time. You need to really do a good job here as has been said, and it will save you headaches later.
#3 - I was not heating up the kanthal wire enough, prior to wrapping the wick. Heating it up with a lighter till it glows nice and red, up and down your strand sure does make a huge difference. Previously I was heating the wire, though not enough which contributed to problem #4.
#4 - Wrapping the wire on the wick too tight.

With the changes noted above, my DID is doing what it should, blowing the doors off my house with vapor!

Definitely tinkering is needed.
Before I make a coil or wick I always have a fully functional ecig near by.
That Way I can relax vape and have a great time with it

I am, unfortunately, a one pv man at the moment; so it will be imperative that I get it right. Not trying to put pressure on myself, but it is a reality. I feel confident with the backing of this community that I will be able.

While I'm sure you'll do great with the DID when the time comes, it is always advisable to have a backup pv, just in case. Pretty cheap insurance considering Volt X2's for $20, ego twists for $22, etc. It would be sad to hear of a fellow vaper having to buy stinkies again because a main pv breaks or is lost. But perhaps you have a back up plan already. I know I'd be happy to send you one of my spares if ever you were in such a position.

The main problem is that I have been through the so many janky PVs that I only want top notch stuff now. Losing my ProVari would be like losing my house LOL. Plus, as it turns out, everything else that I want is harder to get than grabbing hold of a speeding greased pig. So, worst case scenario, I will try and try and if it doesn't work right away, I will pop on an atty and blast off with a supper high mg and jump back on the horse. No stinkies in my stratosphere, though! I know that eventually I will have what I desire in addition to a DID that is working harder than a mule!

There is a vid in an earlier post which wraps cotton around the wick. I just bought some cheesecloth and tried it on my Katana which is the queen of dry hits unless I vape on my head. Well it certainly eliminated the shorts and hot spots. I can taste the cotton though so I probably won't use this on my DID but will continue using it on the Katana because it does help it wick better. So for emergency set up is is failproof and incredibly easy to do.

I think there is a very very small group that can't get the did to work. It is very easy. Go for it. To be blunt when I hear them complain. I don't get it. But I'm not in their shoes or see what they are doing wrong. I have offered to help no takers. Some just like to complain. But it does show these are not plug and play devices to use. you won't regret it.

It's ok to only have one good PV as long as you have multiple DIDs. Once you've got 1 dialed-in, the other can be "played" with... (and # 3 & 4 are so you can easily switch flavors while playing with #2)

You can use a Dremel on Slow mode, if you have one of those. Just cut your wire a longer length (double the length), fold it over, slip the loop in onto the dremel and tighten it down, hold the other end in your hand and buzz it for a second. It only takes a second or two to achieve the perfect twist.

You can use a drill/cordless drill also. Do the same double length fold in half method, tighten down the open end with something, put the folded end in the drill chuck tighten it down and slowly pull the trigger till the wire twists perfectly from start to end then stop....perfect twist everytime.

In my experience the cotton taste does become greatly diminished. I havent tried a Q-tip on the DID yet. I picked up some rolled cotton and will give it a try at some point.

Hi Keegan, if you love your DID as much as the rest of us DIDers you will want more once you get your first one and learn how to get it up and running correctly (nirvana) then you will become a DIDaholic too LOL!

This might come in handy for my Zenesis. I'll have to gather the materials and give this a shot. Thanks for being our guinne pig and sharing the results!

Heh. Probably not, but there will always be those who aspire to squeeze out that last 1 or 2% of sheer excellence and will try various methods to achieve it. Me, I was just curious about it as I can see how this might actually assist wicking. Do I NEED better wicking? Nope. Would I take it if offered? Yup

Haven't tried it yet but some have reported good results. At least it's yet another technique available to those having trouble with shorts/hot spots, etc. Whatever works!
