@Tiff--- I ran across a thread today that might help you. The guy had a hot spot on the top coil. The fix? Simply loosen the brass nut a hair. I hope this helps.

Well it all depends on the amper limit of your regulator. If there is non, you can try LR typ of coiling, which is about 1.7-1.8 ohms. Nevertheless for 5V I rather suggest something like 2.2-2.4 ohms. Basically the resistance of what you use now should be a target as a start.

This is directly from Flash Intro Page with regards to what the regulator can handle..."The Saber's Touch Switch Can Handle 30v and 25amps!" I was thinking about somewhere around the 2.2-2.5 range.

To measure how many wraps you need on the wick is a bit tricky. You should buy a multimeter and choose the length of the coil to match the ohms (just don't forget to deduct the internal resistance of the multimeter). Then you can wrap this length around your coil and will get the needed ohms.
I do not know what kind of wire you will have coming with your DID but if you want higher ohms on longer run you will need something with 0.14-0.16mm width. If it is thicker you should make too many wraps which might lead to hotspots.

ok so I looked through all the posts and continued to try with my DiD. I have oxidized the 400 ss mesh like 8x with water and 8x with pg. I wrapped the coils making sure they weren't touching and they were nice and tight, however it is saying E1 on my provari and I'm kinda getting annoyed. What else could be wrong. I've watched like 10 vids on it...I didn't expect it to be this difficult...

Set your provari onto the lowest voltage to test. Do wet burns. When the juice is use on the wick if you have hot spots it will show. I avoid firing on my provari for extended periods as it can pop the coil. When you see the juice bubbling on all the coils test the ohms and adjust your voltage. Fill it and vape. If you get a harsh throat hit you will know that there is an issue. I have found the very bottom coil can cause me problems and I push the wire by the negative screw in a little so it is making more of ground contact, that usually fixes issues. It the hotspot is near the top then I put a screwdriver (mini) into the top of the coil and kind of wiggle around the coil. This typically fixes the top coil issues.

OK .......so I went and pre ordered the mini DID. Seems like I have either the provape or ego that could use the new DID. So that will give me 7 DID's. Need to stop checking this forum. Well at least I am vaping my sweets rather than eating them.

Oh just got my first really good coil. It took me wrapping it a little tighter than I was at first. It's a 4/3 wrap of 32-a1 and it's ohming out at 2.7! I was doing 5/4 at first and I wasnt getting resistance that high. It is probably been my 10th coil. Got it this morning an been playing with it all day. This stuff is fun. Really glad I got a 200' roll of kanthal lol.
Man this thing eats up juice too. I'm glad I got the clear tank I would not have believed that I vaped half a tank in a hour.

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm running a double wick. I've been taking the inner one in and out trying to decide which way it wicks better. Probably need it give it a little more time to decide

I've noticed that in several pictures of peoples set ups that they leave the fill hole screw off. Is there a reason for doing this? What are the benefits/advantages?

Interesting question. There's two camps 1) say it wicks better without the screw 2)say it wicks better with the screw with one of the the little extra o-rings on it.

IMHO. I've tried both ways but always seem to come back to using it the way it was designed (yes on fill hole screw, no on extra o-ring). Using the fat wick I've never had any wicking issues, so rather avoid the unnecessary leakage of going without the screw (or having to be careful and sit it upright all the time) and I'll save the o-ring for some day in the future when I need for it's intended purpose.

Disadvantage of no screw on the fill hole : it will empty your tank if you tilt the DID vertically !

This has been my experience also. I'm using it in bone stock configuration, as designed and it's vaping like a champ. Also experimented with the coil and I'm back to a 4/3 wrap which for me seems to be my sweet spot (32K a-1). I also liked a 5/6 high ohm wrap but for some reason it seemed to affect wicking performance particularly when chain vaping. That's one of the great things about the DID; highly configurable to individual tastes, mods and vaping styles.

I tried twisted 32, it didn't go so well, seemed like it was taking to long for the coils to get hot

I've been swapping a dense fat wick and a loosely rolled (3 full turns, wide center hole) on the DID and my other Geny, I have to say as both have entirely broken in now I'm not sure there's a difference in wicking speed. The denser wick may mute flavor though, I'm not yet sure. I'll continue to play and post my results.

I'll get it Uma. I'm just a little frustrated right now. everytime i get close, i find the top screw loose and then the top coil breaks when i try to fix it or I go to wiggle a short out and the whole thing goes kaput again . I added the cig paper, and now i'm back to e1 errors. I'll keep fussin

it does seem like i have a problem getting the bottom coil to steer clear of the bottom nut as well. maybe i need to tighten that one down again?
