The wick im using at the moment comes halfway in to the tank. i tend to vape with e-cig horizontal to so the wick is submerged and soaking every drag i take.
Imho if your quenching with water it will take a bit longer for flavor to become great. I use a fruitflavor i dont like to drip on wick after burning (so i assume quenching it in a flavour you dont like is better then water to). Then after checking coils etct for hotspots after coiled i fill it up with the liquid i want to vape, takes 2 drags before the flavor was there.

All over the place
I am going to need to buy some el cheapo flavor that doesn't taste half bad cause I have only the best of the best (IMO) and I can't waste my juice like this. I am a flavor guy all the way and watching my mL's go down of my favorites with barely any taste is quite the nuisance. FYI, I don't blame The DID, this is only my third attempt, but I see sediment at the bottom of the tanks, presumably from the wick being moved up and down, and I feel as if the juice has been tainted. Why is it when I watch the videos, I don't see other peoples fingers looking as carbon covered as mine?

Man, I am sure you all went though this, but now, after I ask questions, I am almost afraid to post them out of fear of the ignorance of said questions.

On a scale of 1-10, where should the flavor be at the beginning of a new wick? Should the wick touch the bottom of the tank? Is it normal to see trapped vapor in the tank?

hmm, around 5 - improving as wick/coil breaks in. No, wick touching bottom can cause a micro-short (can't see, no ht spot) that seem to reduce flavor (not burnt taste just very little taste). When making a wick I use full width of Jim's 1/2 sheets so (~40mm x ~50mm = ~1-3/5in x ~2in). When installing (I use a modified PeterK + oxidizing) I put the wick all the way to the bottom and then lift back up 1mm-2mm and trim even to top of center post. I don't think I've seen vapor in the tank, but definitely see it coming out of the air hole after a long vape (I think a hot wick keeps cooking a little).

No way, keep posting - folks'll help. On the cheap juice thing, I buy 100% VG (Pure Glycerin USP) at CVS pharmacy for $5/6oz. No flavor, but you can still tell when it's burnt (I use it for swapping flavors when dripping my Cisco 306's)

Mr mann do you torch your wick in the blue flame or in the orange flame?
When touching my dry wick it doesnt release any color either.
When its wett and i fiddle with my coils i get some black under my nails but it isnt releasing any particals in my tank either.

Blue.......I am using the more industrial sized blow torch so there isn't really anything but a blue flame..

I think I had the torch up too high. I just re-sparked it and brought the flame down to, pretty much, just the pin point flame and I think that would be more appropriate.

Ahh Mr.Mann - I'm in the same boat as you. Blown through 3 or 4 wicks yesterday. Course, I got tired and it was getting late. MY biggest issues are a hot spot on top coil and E errors - but the E I'll circumvent once I get the readings. The top seems to be "fiddle and try again". I waited a month for DIDs - I'm going to have a trial and error weekend ahead of me. But I have over 4000 posts here and a boat load of vids to watch to help. I guess my BIGGEST problem is knowing I read something somewhere and finding it again in this thread.

Sweet mother of god...

Have had mine for three'ish weeks, and have had no probs whatsoever setting it up...

Was messing with it today with a friend, and decided to rewick/recoil.

Five hours later, still didn't have a decent stable coil, and was close to loosing it completely.

It hit me, that all previous times I had created the coil with the cigarette-paper trick, so gave it a shot... Five minutes later, a perfectly even coil, 2.6 ohms and stable to no end. Vapor is blazing, taste is really strong.

Happy camper once again, will absolutely be sticking with the ciggy-paper trick in the future.

Hi All,

Got my DID in yesterday's mail. I ordered the clear tank with it. First coil I made had hot spot in top wrap. Second coil I made--broke of the wire too soon before adjusting it just right to make sure the wraps were evenly spaced around the wick. Third coil vaporizes well, but can't get enough vapor when vaped. It looks like Jim's video when watching it fire without the top mouthpiece on, but I screw on the mouthpiece and drip tip and hardly any vapor gets produced. Also, doesn't taste all that good. Break in time?

I am definately picking up some cig paper on my way home. I've read that A LOT on here. (and somehow was still not prepared)

Make sure your intake hole is not blocked. Run your finger in the inside of the cap and make sure its smooth as well.
