The new wick i made with the 300 mesh is a real FAT wick, with a large center hole. I indeed get more vapor and awesome wicking with the fill screw firmly in place. I can also add that with the fill screw in place it performs awesomely and i do not get the bleeding effect.

No shorts what-so-ever, without the wick in the coils i get 2 ohms and i get the same consistent 2 ohms with the wick in place. It is not touching bottom or top and there are no hot spots, the taste is awesome and the vapor production is awesome (although when i take the fill screw out, the taste is still ok but the vapor production is less and the bleeding happens)

With the fill screw in my juice now stays crystal clear from the first to the last drop too. I am still not sure if it is purely to do with the fill screw or also with the new wick (the 300 mesh). When i make a new wick with 400 mesh i will do this same test again (making the wick the same dimensions) to see what happens. For now I am really content with my setup so this will have to wait until i get my 2nd DID, or until i become fiddly again ;-)
Right on! It was a touch of flooding (less vapor) and the back flow combo. I'm so glad you experimented. A slight pinch of the wick and off ya go. I love it!!!

Okay, I searched the thread, I seem to remember reading a post about how to tell the difference between 325 and 400 mesh... but I can't find it! It was something about holding it up to the computer screen, maybe.

Also, I'm noticing that one of my mesh sheets is a little less stiff than the other one. Which one would be stiffer, the 325 or the 400?

Uma:

Did you ever locate the link for the "hooking" of the top coil on its way to the post? I'm curious how he does this, as I've been doing it for a while but don't really have a systematic way of going about it, its just about freehand love ;)

eeks! Sorry, I kinda got kidnapped for the day and forgot all about it. But the fair was tons of fun!
Here ya go, it's towards the end:
nice tutorial, but he didn't cover the Jack Frost burn first alert.

Classwife and Mr. Mann shared the neat tip. If I remember correctly, the 325 has a few less strands of wire per square which makes it a touch more open... like a blouse that shows everything when the girl stands in the light just right... (why oh why didn't someone say something!!!

I believe the trick was to hold the two pieces of mesh up to a computer screen, and you'll be able to read the words through the 325 mesh sooner, since the holes are larger. At least, I hope that was it, because that's the method I used a couple of days ago when I made one of those double wicks! Whatever I used, I'm really impressed with the double wick. The flavor is outstanding, and I actually wicked a whole tank bone dry before I started getting an off hit, and I think that's the first time that's happened. I used the 'Jack Frost" method on both wicks, rolled them and heated and quenched once, then seasoned the outer wick with unflavored, burned off with a lighter, added more while the wick was hot, burnt off again, added the center wick ('unseasoned'), coiled and vaped!

It's 5:15 am now, which means I've been cutting and perfecting the tutorial for 6 straight hours. It's 50 minutes long and is currently exporting from iMovie, which will take 2-3 more hours, plus add on another few hours for it to upload to YouTube. Im really pleased with how it turned out, but my only fear/reservation about it is that I'm afraid the file will be too big or the video too long for YouTube to allow me to upload it in one piece. Ally and I put a tonnn of hard work into getting this video put together, and i must say that im going to sleep easy tonight knowing that it's finished. It'll be all worth it for me if it helps out even just 1 single person, but I have a feeling that it might serve more than that, as long as the ridiculous length doesn't deter anyone from checking it out. Good night overyone, time for sleep.
Sweet!! Can't wait to watch it. You, my dear, are a huge benefit to this community!!

And the thread just got a little racy! Thanks, Uma. If you're right, I think the 400 is stiffer. Which makes sense, considering it has more steel than the 325. Right..?

Thanks, J! I'm about to try this out, with a twisted double coil. Just for fun. ;)

@Striker911, I also want to thank you for your video(s). Don't get it twisted, I watched that joint several times.

Hey brother, its no competition. I just knew a easy way that worked well for me and wanted to share it. We are all learning and I knew it was not the best way, but easy. Now that I got it down I am all for finding a better way. Its in a vapers DNA. :toast: Thanks for the shout out.

Finally got around to washing my DID. ::: faint:::: I put all the pieces into a washed out Mrs. Dash seasoning shaker bottle with enough vodka to cover. The wire was so gunked up it looked like a shishkobob, so I tossed it. The mesh had burnt gunk so I just fired it off, rejuiced it and seasoned two times then reinserrted. The wick still looks "new". The amazing part, is I actually coiled a perfect coil without the paper this time! ::: pat self on back :::
But the bad news is, my center post broke off at the end. It no longer has a foot. I still used it though, and hope it's okay to use it without the foot. I'll order some new ones when they're up on site. (SS and the bronze both). It's no big deal, but another users headsup is in order as a pre-alert so you all can be sure to get your backup posts in the house before you need them.

Funny... all the way up to the fair they kept making me roll my window back up because they loved the smell of the Ry4 in my DiD.
I even refilled 3 times while out and about. It was easy! I'm glad I took my paperclip, to burst the air bubble before inserting the needle nosed bottle of juice though.

Oh! and I purchased a little Change Purse with two padded zipper pockets. (Selma Hayek brand even!) and it fits everything just perfect for on the road. The wrench, wire, mesh, paperclips, zizzags fit in the little pocket and 2 bottles of juice and 2 spare batteries in a battery case in the larger main pocket. So easy to organize and transport.
I wish I would have gotten two of them now. Well worth the purchase. And the inside of my purse looks nicer without the padded envelope I've been carrying everything in.

For me, not tight. In fact I build my coil on a drill bit larger than the wick hole. Move coil to a smaller drill bit, put the small drill bit into the wick hole with coil. Attach coil, remove drill bit. Burn coil and test for shorts, (The whole coil should glow even.) I then insert wick, and re-test with dry burn. Should again glow even, if not wick needs work, (re-oxidize), once all looks good, add juice, drop a bit on dry wick, vape away. I use this method exclusively at this point, I like to be able to remove wick for cleaning, and dry burning coil as needed. I'm sure others will have differing methods but this works for me.

Now I'm un-sure as to wether this is already in the DIDepedia...if not ?...then this is worth an entry.

Thank you so so much. It is VERY much appreciated. I'm a visual learner and well... hard to beat a video from a pro like yourself. Looking forward to watching! Thanks again!

Whew! At least your footless post is still working. Now I'll know to not freak out if that ever happens to me. Sounds like a pretty sweet DID case, too. You should put up some pics in the photo thread!

While waiting for rwechsler to wake up , I decided to fiddle around a little. I made a double wick (skinny inside fat) using the Jack Frost method. Then I twisted two lengths of Kanthal 32 together, then DID a 3/4 wrap. The setup's been reading at a steady 1.0 ohms, and I've been using it on my Bolt with an 18650. And I left the fill screw out, as when it was in my DID wasn't wicking fast enough for me. It's kicking pretty hard! Tons of vapor and flavor, but very little throat hit. My juice is DIY Peppermint at 6mg, 50/50. I don't really need or want tons of TH anyway.

I've been trying to get a DID setup that works on my Bolt, just because I love using that cheap little thing, so I'm pretty excited.

And now, a dancing banana:

No doubt in my mind we will be adding and taking away from all the things we learned from everyone to find what we like personally. What a ride. Glad to be here. :toast:

I'd love to see a pic of a twisted coil. How tight do you twist it?

I'm working with a camera phone for now, and I couldn't get it to focus on the coil. I'll try again later. As far as the tightness, I'd there's about a millimeter per twist. Does that make sense? I also did it by hand (no vice here), and it took a few minutes. It's not exactly a uniform twist, either, but it's working great.

Now I'm just waiting for my 18650 to crap out.

I tought one needed 34 AWG khantal for twisted coil ?! And isn't 1.0 ohms way too low to even vape on it ?! I'm confused but excited to try it. And how do you twist it? Videos?

I need to wash mine. Its been acting strange and the taste is also not the same. First I thought it was my wick so I changed it. Put a new coil in and its still not working out. Im afraid the center post is going to break on me but at this point I have no choice. The green sludge is balling up at the battery connection. 8-o

Update: Its apart and in the USonic cleaner. Was not as dirty as I thought it would be. Just had a bunch of black flakes from the coil in the tank. The DID will tell you when its time to clean it. Crossing my fingers that it goes back together with no broken post.
