Figured it out. Its the lower + nut. Pushed the insulator down and the nut is shorting on the roof of the tank : (. Am I SOL?

you should be able to fix that. Those insulators are just pressed in so maybe you could pop the top one out using a paperclip or something and add one of the little o-rings to raise it up. I didn't want to booger it up, so pushed from the underside of the tank top and it came out pretty easily.

Has anyone gone a whole week just filling and vaping without any fiddling/adjusting ?

Me.

If i use very clear juices i basically only dry burn my wick and coil once a week and then rinse it under the tap, dry burn again and then fill again.

And that is precisely why i love the DID. Once it is setup it is just fill and vape, with the occassional dry burn to clean.

I think Strikers analogy does work when considering the current capacity (or ampacity) as proportional to the cross sectional surface area of a conductor.

I do wonder though (based on Dusty's question) whether or not the number of twists/distance have any appreciable effect on the surfaces's electromagnetic field. E.g. Is there an optimum twist ratio for creating more attraction to juice getting pulled into the coil (which would force more juice into the wick by capillary replacement).

I learned the whole "Water hose" thing in my HVAC trade school classes. I should have also received a certificate for electric engineering with all we learned on the subject. Oh well. They where fun classes. Funny thing about that. When my AC unit needed work it was cheaper to put in window units and also cheaper on the electric bill  Zoned cooling. I used the 240V wire from the condenser and ran it back in the house to put in an electric stove. Cheaper then LP gas lol. Sold the LP stove and used the money to get a electric one. :toast:

Thanks for the tip. Think I got it by just pushing it up and adding less snot to the nut. Will see how it works out once I make a new wick. Got cocky and just burnt some juice in. Not working out that way.

I have gone several weeks with just filling and vaping. I do periodically switch it all out but typically this is for fun rather than necessity. I am using a 4th nut though which helps keep the top 2 nuts secure and eliminates the loosening. Although that doesn't seem to be an issue if you put the its with the little well in the center facing each other with the wire in between. I have also dropped mine plenty of times and not messed up the coil. When I first started with the did I experienced the same problems as we all have with unstable coils. This seems to be a thing of the past.

I saw Pete's DID last night...it is beautiful !!!

Hey Classy, I just got back from checking my mail for no reason! It's like looking in the refrigerator when you know nothing is in it.
