I think Strikers analogy does work when considering the current capacity (or ampacity) as proportional to the cross sectional surface area of a conductor.

I do wonder though (based on Dusty's question) whether or not the number of twists/distance have any appreciable effect on the surfaces's electromagnetic field. E.g. Is there an optimum twist ratio for creating more attraction to juice getting pulled into the coil (which would force more juice into the wick by capillary replacement).

:D You are bringing out the nerd in me. I had to dig through boxes to find my old engineering test books on EMT to refresh my memory on this. Mind you, I haven't touched them in 20 years and didn't think I would have to any time soon.

Anyways, since the flow of current is only in one direction and the current through them being constant, the magnetic field generated around each wire would be the same. I don't think the twisting itself would add anything extra that would make a difference, regardless of the number of twists. The twists only change the direction of the field through the coil(right hand rule). If at all it does anything to increase the magnetic field, it's too negligible to even be considered. If you want to increase the magnetic field, increase the number of wires used. Also since the e-liquid itself which could initially be considered neutral - both electrically and magnetically, the theory of the liquid being sucked into the twisted coil due to magnetic field is practically impossible.

Now the only way e-liquid can get between the coils would be through simple fluid dynamics - fluids coming up through the wick occupying the space between the coils. You see this in single wire coils as well, between the wick and coil.

Considering all this, I am sure that the only advantage of twisting 2 wires together is to increase the size of the wire. The reduced R would be identical or close to that of the single wire of the new increased thickness. So other than the reduced R and the twists causing less contact with the wick than the single strand of wire- which might explain the less shorts(but I doubt that) - every other perceived advantage of the twisted coil is in one's head.

Man, I have to say, Jim and his helpers have the best customer service ever! Contacted them via the contact us link from the site for a last minute (literally) adds to my order and they accommodated my request so quickly!

You guys rock!

Yeah, they are awesome...
I also contacted a few days ago and they replied almost instantly.

Just got an email earlier today - my DID is on its way :D

Holy moly; I followed the instructions on Rick's vid this morning (this is the first fat, thin-walled wick I've tried) and, WOW!!
I've followed this thread pretty religiously, and had my DID running pretty well -or so I thought. The thin-walled wick takes flavor to a whole new level, with vapor to match, and makes priming unnecessary.
Thank you Rick for the outstanding tutorial; you're the man! I can't wait for the other two parts!

I just ordered a mini DID on the 8/8/12 and now in Process on the e-vape.gr.

Has anyone got one yet?? And if so how is it vaping??? I was going to put it on my provari mini.. Wanted a smaller package to carry around..

Also how do you have it set up??

I'm in the same boat, order processing. I plan to use it with a Little Sister Varicool from Ken's Box mods. Should be a big bang in a small package so to speak...

All over the place
Hi
thank you all for your good words
I have promised for today that I will upload the SS update for the DID
but it needs some time and I do not feel good with my back!
I will take a pill and I will try for tonight!
If not tomorrow for sure!

Feel better Jim! We will be here. Lastly, could we order the ss center post separately? When you add the Kanthal, are you also going to ever add mesh? I sure wouldn't mind just ordering everything from you.

Oh no!! Sorry to hear you've hurt your back. :( I hope it's a temporary condition. Get well soon!!

Jim or Jim's helper, how do I add to my order that is already in processing? I want to add a regular sized DID's Center Post and extra nuts to the Mini DID that I ordered a while back and is in "processing" stage. I am trying to save on shipping $$, but don't know how to omit the shipping charge.

I ordered a DID a week ago (the order is still processing), will it come with the new SS hardware?

Damn, I hope all of the a/v problems sort themselves out. I have 2 more parts that I'll be uploading tonight and tomorrow.

Just wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you have put into these reviews. I have been considering a rebuildable for awhile now and finally ordered a DID this morning based on your initial review. I got a clear window and some extra nuts coming with it and cant wait to play, appreciate what you do!

Somewhere in PA on my Ultra Limited
There's 3 options to choose from...
Any ideas on which one I should get and the difference between them ?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Choice comes down to preference tall/thick (~3.5ml) = DID Standard, short/thick (~2ml) = Shorty, tall/thin (~2ml) = Mini
(std & shortie look great on any full sized mod, Mini fit perfect on eGo style batts). You can see all the different versions on different mods in the photo album.

They will all vape outstandingly, most folks get 1 of each...
