Was just reading elsewhere on ecf about tobbacco extraction in Vg technique.
Have a pouch of rolling tobacco left over from the day I quit, so off to the store tomorrow to buy vg , coffee filters and mini saucepan.
Can't wait to try it. The post says you only need 10-20 % of the resulting extract, so I can add it to my other flavors for a variety of new mix options. The thread mentioned is a great resource. (below)
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/liquid-extraction-tobacco/99774-vg-pipe-tobacco-essense.html

Yep, thats what I do, with a slight difference, I use whole leaf tobacco (untreated with anything) and 95%VG 5%Vodka, soak 12 Hrs, then heat the liquid with leaf still in it, let cool and sit for 12 Hrs, repeat this 4 times, the last time I strain and filter whilst still warm.

Use as a concentrate for mixing with other flavour concentrates and dilutants.... at 20% you get a real tobacco flavour, I love this in my DID.

Repeat four times seems like a lot of work.
Is this method a result of much trial and error? And if so did you have any success with the quick method mentioned in the thread?
How is the whole leaf tobacco sold, and where do you buy it?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm a vaping info sponge at the moment :p

is there a way to bookmark these threads as u go away for a bit and damn there is just too much to get through. I just found out that some one the gemini!!
At the top of the window, go to:
What's New/my posts/
or:
Quick Links/subscribed threads/

and then click on the little blue button before the title of the thread. That takes you to last unread.
Or you can click on the arrow, at the end of the title and pages, to go to last post you made.

Hope this helps

I just ordered a bunch of spare parts from Jim, but couldn't wait for my new clear window that I ordered so I took a new duel carto I had laying around and made my own. Fits perfect. :) , but I will still use the new one once it comes in.

Just one thing about my standard, I Just bought it last month and had a issue with the center brass post, it broke while I was tighting it up and force me to make a order with Jim website for the new SS center post and screw kit that I really didn't want to make..

I really didn't have the money to purchase of the the parts, but if you are going to own the best, I guess you have to get the parts.

I got the standard DID working for a while as I wait for the parts. Picture below..

Also is anyone out there had the same problem with your center brass post braking??? I think the SS center post will be stronger???

I wish there was warrenties on this stuff.. LOL ;)

I ordered the standard DID 14 days ago, and still haven't got a shipping notice yet, and while I am patiently waiting for it to ship, I found this thread a few days ago.

I first searched ECF for "The DID" and it wouldn't search for what it called a common word "did", but I am here now.

I have read and seen some of the videos and have learned a lot about what to expect from my first Gen. atty. But there are a few questions that weren't answered, that I was hoping an OLD PRO could answer. I'll be using my ProVeri.

1. Some flavors I use last longer in STDC carto than others. Will the same flavors that don't last as long in the carto's do the same on The DID?

2. Does the gunk buildup, or the half burnt liquid on the mesh wick ever seep back into the liquid in the tank ruining the taste? And if so, is there a way to prevent this?

3. Can you flip the wick over and re-coil the portion that was in the tank?

4. Should I never try thinner wire for coils? Or if I ever get The MINI DID for my EGO Twist's, would it be better to use thinner wire for battery life?

5. Which of my favorite tastyvapor.us flavors should I use FIRST, on The DID's Virgin, maiden voyage? Carmel Popcorn, Banana Nut Bread, Maple Waffles, Tasty (Butter) Finger, Cafe Mocha or Coconut Cream Pie?

6. And that reminds me, should I use Atomic Cinnacide? It is a very Strong Cinnamon that likes to etch (make cloudy) clear plastic tanks. Will that hurt The DID?

Well, welcome to the fold turnforward.

I'm sure Jim has despatched your DID for you...he closed his ordering site a few days ago to catch up on orders so I'm sure your DID is on it's way.

Now to help you out with some of your Q's...now I'm not an old hand at this, and I'm sure some of the pro's will be along soon.

1. As for your flavours lasting...well the way this thing vapes I don't think your juice will be in there long enough to lose any flavour.

2. Gunk seeping back into tank.
I can't say a definite no...as I find with some juices that when they get very low in the tank their colour does get darker, but I can't say it changes the flavour so I haven't found it a problem.

3. Flipping the wick over.
I suppose you could do this but I don't know why you would need to. I personally snip the bottom of my wick that is going into my tank at an angle to give a larger surface area.

4. Thinner wire.
I don't know on that one.

5. Starting flavour.
That's up to you.

6. Atomic Cinnacide.
If your using the SS tank that comes as standard with the DID then I believe all should be o.k.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a vaping info sponge at the moment :p

The method I use is a result of experiments and much trial and error, I find it gets the most out of the tobacco leaf, I would say 70% of the flavour is obtained from the first heat and soak, the other heat and soak cycles get 30% more flavour for me.

I get my whole leaf from a company called Tobacco UK - tobacco uk, I note you are in Australia, so I guess you will need to goggle a supplier from there. It is sold by weight and type…. It is relatively cheap (compared to processed tobacco products like cigars or pipe tobacco) as I believe it does not incur tobacco product tax in the UK (don’t know how the politicians missed that one).

I think any more discussion on this needs to be on another thread as it is starting to get off “DID” topic…. Sorry all, but wanted to reply!

The foot broke off mine a few weeks ago. I'm a DIY'er now, and should have had the sense to have spare parts on hand, but of course, I DIDn't. I will now! The atty itself is forever, but the parts like posts and screws are typical replacement parts. I will be ordering extra posts of each type next payday, and do the DIY part of me proud. :)
Sorry to hear yours broke too. MiriamWTH went through a broken one too, as well as a few others. It's a given, that it's going to happen. Jim doesn't make the screws and posts, unfortunately.

First off, welcome to Jims DID thread turnforward. As for your questions.
1. I find my flavors (juice consumption) has gone up with all of my RBA's. That said the flavor and vapor is so much more pronounced.

2. If you have a slight short in the coil / wick set up, yes on the gunk build up and leak back. More so in the sweeter liquids as if it doesn't get vaporized fully, it will wick back into the tank. If your wick/ coil is set up correctly, this will not happen.

3. Yes.

4. Start with 32 AGW to start. Get that mastered then you can tinker.

5. Start with your favorite. ;)

6. Atomic Cinnacide will not hurt the stainless tank. It will blow out the Kir Fanis and most other clear tanks except fused quartz.

Again, welcome.

I want to grab the did shorty, with the clear tube.. How sturdy is the clear tube?? Is it thick and strong?? Very clear??

Its sturdy. No doubt. Of course it will not withhold a drop like the SS tank would. Also you do have to watch what juices you out in it as it CAN crack, and will depending on the juice. But day to day, factoring in safe juice and no direct falls, it's sturdy. I find myself using the ss when I can on the two that I have because of looks. I DID use clear to "learn" the inside while I learned the coiling. Once I was good, I changed what I could. My third did only has a clear because it was built out of spare parts and a clear is all I had. But next order, I'll likely order a ss tank.

Oh it's clear too.
