Like some of you, I bought some 500x500. Haven't had a chance to roll a new wick with it yet (maybe tomorrow), but has anyone got some results of using it to feed back? I'm planning to start with a 40mm x 50mm fat wick coiled with 30awg 4/5 to see how it goes.

Just waiting for the mesh and second DID to get here to try this exact set up. I'd also like to hear from anyone who is trying this....

I will try it tomorrow for you Uma. My 500 mesh came in today (I ordered it on Tuesday from England and it arrived today's if mesh can come in that fast why does NY take so long to release the DIDs). Of course I will now have to break down a wick and coil. I will also use the stainless steel spacer. I am going to keep the brass center post and nuts I think. Will decide once I have a tank torn down. I also twisted some 32 awg ......wonder how low the ohms will be with that. Should make a pretty tough coil. It twists nice and tight so I think it should wrap well.
This is fun, reading the various experiments with various materials. I'm tempted now to try the 30 with a 500, even though I am still under beginners luck syndrome and don't have any problems whatsover with my 32 w/400 set up. I can't believe how nicely this thing wicks! I don't ever have to tip it, not even first thing in the morning. It never floods, except when I direct drip a new flavor on the wick, and the shorts are usually just cuz the top nut loosened. I've dropped it many times. (Both the eGo Twist and the LavaTube are skinny poles that topple over easy) and dropping it does change things a bit... sometimes it'll produce even more flavor, sometimes even more vapor, sometimes nada unless I tighten the nut. Crazy how a bonk can change things sometimes for the little bit better and sometimes for the whole lot not so better.
Even so, with that said, I'm in what if mode, and now I want to try the 30 w/500. Maybe next payday I'll round up some material... Thanks for your thoughts on it! It might save me from having to tinker with it after every kabonk it takes. (which is often with me at the helm lol)

Looking forward to your thoughts on everything about it! Way cool!

You may need real thin juice for that. May also be more sensitive to hotspots. More metal. The gaps is what pulls the juice. No science major here But that's how it works. I want ceramics. ;)

I am looking for ceramic to try as well. I have silica, cotton, and bamboo, 200, 270, 325, 400, and now 500 mesh. My experience thus far has been less shorts with the finer grades. I think the wires are thicker in the 200 and 270 mesh, it is very difficult for me to oxidize properly. The 400 mesh I can do a quick Jack Frost roll coil and go.http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/330407-500-ss-mesh.html found the 500 mesh to wick the fastest with both PG and VG. I find both wick great through 400 mesh. Tinkering makes the world of the DID so much fun.

Well, I couldn't wait till tomorrow. I rolled a 40x50 500x500 fat wick wrapped 4/5 with 30awg (ended up with a solid 1.5ohm coil). No hot spots, tons of vapor and flavor. I'm running a 50pg/50vg juice - seems to wick very well. I'm intentionally vaping near vertical (5 to 6 o'clock) to see how it does and no dry hits (I usually vape much more horizontal 3 to 4 o'clock). All-in-all, if this setup gets better with breakin I'm sold on it.

The higher the mesh the better the wicking even with all vg. Some of us have asked them to make 600 mesh next

The Mesh Company in the UK. about $25 for a big sheet. They usually throw in a couple free sheets of less fine mesh with your order.

The Mesh Company (Warrington) Ltd #400 Super Fine Filtration Mesh - 25 Micron

I ordered from the Mesh Co (The Mesh Company (Warrington) Ltd #400 Super Fine Filtration Mesh - 25 Micron)
WSS500SF-A4 Super Fine #500 Stainless - 1 £7.99 £7.99
Steel Mesh - 25 Micron - A4 -

And they threw in an extra sheet of 400 "super fine" for free and very fast shipping

evilfrog was quicker

Lovin' it!!! A :toast: to the fun and courageous explorers who tore their perfectly good coils apart in order to travel into worlds unknown. I love you guys!
And it doesn't flood???? I was afraid it would flood. This is way more than way cool!!
I can't wait to tear my coils apart now .... well, after I order and the stuff arrives ... and dare to travel with you all. Thanks!!!

P.S. CloudWizard!!! Congrats on your new mod! Beautiful!!!

Took me 4 wicks of different styles and methods, but I finally found something that works for me on my Mini DID

Washed a square of 40mm x 40mm 400 mesh.
Folded 2 opposite sides in 1 to 2mm to clean the edges up.
Oxidised 1/3 of the sheet for the outer wall of the wick. (only the outside of the wick needs oxidising)
Rolled the wick starting from the unoxidised folded side but not to tight so as to leave a slight gap between layers.
This creates a good solid wick for wrapping coils.
Then I give the finished wick a quick going over with a jet flame.
Soak the wick in juice and ignite 3 times (no quenching)

Finished off with a 3 wrap coil of 30 awg Kanthal A, easy with a nice solid wick no accidentally damaging the wick
Check for hot spots and shorts.
A few drops of juice onto the wick (doesn't really need it as it wicks so well)

Sit back with a tank of my favourite juice (Mojito) and vape great big clouds of vapour with great flavour.

Loving the DID great for people like me that like to experiment and tinker.

JUST DID IT :D

PS. I usually vape high VG ratio juices (80% VG)

Jim, I got in from my motorcycle trip Thursday night late after a long 500 mile run, well because the lodge we wanted to stay at was closed due to the bear or something! Anyways, my DID-mini was waiting on me...

I have to say BRAVO my friend. The quality machining and craftsmanship on your atomizer is top notch! You did a superb job on setting up that atomizer chamber. I just have to be careful not to lose any of the little knurled nuts or screws. They remind me of my model airplane days and the throttle mixture screws :) Which brings me to an idea. I vape 100% VG, and am leaving the fill port open. I wonder if you could use a screw similar to a throttle screw with a spring to control the air allowed into the tank while vaping??? Just a thought.

I set it up and it vapes very nicely, after first try, not new to genisis here:). Not to tight nor airy of a draw. Flavor is very good (though still breaking in). Looks very nice on my STURM MOD (though i need to polish the STURM now).

I happened to be also be on a coop for some chinese copies of your work and also received them. Normally I wouldn't buy into something like that, but I like to give them to people that show at our local vape meets and want to try a genisis. I want to tell you, there is NO comparison between your beautiful piece of work and their chrome plated brass copy. Theirs is not something I would want to use long term, and yours is. I will be cleaning out some of my vaping gear to the classifieds over the next few months I believe, but your work is staying here.

Thanks for making the mini, it was worth the wait IMO.

@JR: 500mi, that's a nice ride! How'd you make out with the DID on the road? I've been using mine exclusively now when I ride and for me it is the coolest. I can use a charger (I have an accessory jack in the trunk), but am thinking about using a passthrough from the jack on the dash.

Keep the rubber side down :toast:

LOL. It was over 2500 miles total. ~500 on the last day! I had been waiting on the DID to take on the road, but customs got in the way of that plan. I ended up taking 2 other gens with me, which did fine. One is eGo size, and I have an ego lanyard, and use that when I ride. Worked great...
