Ever have one of those days?

Unfortunately, everyone has one of those days (and probably will again some time). Sympathies, just gotta push through it. I've gotten to the point where I never struggle to get it perfect. I just need to get close enough to be vapable and then it kind of "self-heals". For the first tank on every new setup, I twist the wick a 1/4 turn every now and again and by the time I'm through I have a wick that is seasoned and lasts for weeks (or until some new setup makes me tinker). Then again, I have few DIDs and always have at least 1 in perfect working order when tinkering. These things are not as fragile as folks think, sometimes you gotta let it know who's boss....

Not with it twisted Pete, his wire is two pieces twisted into one for a lower resistance wire. It should actually be ohming out at around 1.3 to 1.5 at that wrap count depending on the diameter of the wick. I have a 5/6 wrap of straight 32 AWG on my Gemini but the diameter of the wick itself is very small so it comes out to about 2.4-2.6 ohms.

If it is working well though... don't mess with success

I could see a 5/6 twisted coming in around 2.0ohm on a standard. I've found (YMMV) that twisting 32 or even 34 does not 1/2 the resistance (usually what would be a 3.0 for me drops to 2.0). Definitely lowers it and I've found twisted to be easier on hot spots/shorts than straight 32 or 34, but also think it looses a little of the flavor "crispness". I'm finding 30 to work much better for my vaping style and just starting to play with 28.

The more I think about it, maybe me not getting a 1 to .5 resistance drop is due to actually using longer wires because I twist pretty tight using a drill? Science would tell me I should get exactly 1/2.

My bad. It was a 6/7 wrap, which makes a lot more sense. Apparently counting can also be filed under 'not my strong suit today'.

Bam, boom. Rolled a 100mm wick. Torch, roll, torch, wrap, mount, slide around for hotspot solving. Twist for same. No quench. Wires left loose. Ground section doesnt even lay flat. The sonofab@)#%^ wicks like a dream. 15 straight minutes of heavy chain vaping gorilla juice with not one dry hit. Finally got a semi tight wick that keeps up.

I know I know. Small potatoes considering many have done it. But mine just WOULD NOT wick before. I just broke every one of my own rules on how I setup the DID and what I learned NOT to do.

big to me. I've never gotten a solid wick to work right. I've been making hybrid thick/mostly solid with a small needle sized channel.

I'm with you on that one. No matter how tight I roll it, my solid 500 mesh wicks are almost never compact enough for me to wrap a decent coil. The few odd times I've gotten it down, they've wicked great! But I think I'm gna stick with my thin, hollow wicks for now, at least until I can devise a more consistent technique for rolling solid 500 wicks.

hmmm My wick is about 5 months old and looks nothing like that at all...
Every time I see Tony's battered wick, it reminds me of one I had for the longest time. That thing was heaven. Never ran dry. The one I have now is pretty, but it's not near the wick my old one was. I didn't season this new one, tried something new. Hate it. I hope my next one turns out even half as good as that old black battered one was. Maybe tomorrow I'll ... nope, Black ops is in and I couldn't play today, which leaves that on my top priority list for tomorrow. :)
We had just sat down to play the game for the first time, run through the maps, do some Free for All against each other and the bots when my gSon turns and says "This is great, and we have all next week off from school!" and I earnestly replied back "Ohhh cool! They've made a Black Ops week??" to which he laughed and said "No Grandma, it's Thanksgiving week!"....

All my wicks are now 500 solid. I was using 110mm but recently decreased it down to 80mm....it is thin enough to make a gap around the wick. The main reason for making a skinnier wick was not for poor wicking but to decrease the heatsink that was caused by the big wick. I can also make a 3/4 30awg wrap that comes in at about 1.2 ohms which is perfect on my mechanical mods and vaped great on my pro vary at 3.5 watts.

Nice work Yankee :D I have not been able to get a solid or even simisolid wick to work right unless there is ample room around it in the wick hole. That is okay though because I still get Huge Clouds from it with the thinner diameter wick :D

Nate aka Darth Vapor

Well it's a semi tight wick. Maybe .5 mm around hole. So it's all semi. But the only way until now was a wide open center hole. Wrapped on the hex. And closed only slightly during roll.

They fit really well. I did have one tank that was broken. They were shipped in an envelope in a 'thingy'. I think the 'thingy' will be a great wick holder....perfect size.
I have been looking havent seen anything yet. So i just ordered from ibtanked

I have a couple coming from them for my standard and short DID.

Not sure if anyone has posted how they fit.... hopefully well. I hope Jim gets his soon. I would rather order from him :)

Got another interesting DID to show off :)
First off, this is one of the new pyrex tanks (pluid approved!), so you can see that it really is a clean fit with the rest of the atomizer. Also, that's another interesting top cap that Jim customized for me. It has 3 airholes that, from top to bottom, are 0.6mm, 0.8mm, and 1.0mm. The draw is tighter than a 1/16" airhole, the vapor production is virtually the same, the TH is slightly stronger, but the flavor is really outta this world!

And here's another shot of the Gemini-Pro with a Sagewood glass art drip tip. Also really loving how this baby is vaping with the dual airholes :)
