Jim is going to have a spring upgrade kit available on his site in the next week or so!
Damn. A spring kit too?!

There we go! It's only €3.20 ($4.15 or so) and it looks really, REALLY nice. Personally, I was not a fan of the spring assembly on the Orion...but is it just me, or does this setup look a LOT better? The spring is definitely a lot thicker (so I'm assuming it'll make a much tighter connection between the washer and nut), the washer and nut are both custom made specifically for this purpose (versus the generic M2 nut and washers that the Orion uses), and the washer itself looks to be of infinitely better quality (thicker, countersunk, level, and the guarantee that they're made of the same high quality 303/304 grade stainless steel that are DIDs are made of, rather than shtty sheet metal they press generic m2 washers from). I actually think I'm going to buy a few sets to test out! Can't really think of any way Jim could have improved upon the concept, but I guess that's what we've come to expect from him

rwechsler,
glass tanks for the mini are being made. It is going to be tricky as it is very small and difficult but an attempt is being made!
Hell, if it aint broke don't fix it! I came up with what I think is a very interesting concept for the + post assembly that I know has never been attempted before that I'm going to test out tonight! If it works well, I'll post pics and rant about how great it is later tonight. If it sucks, I'll post pics anyways and rant about how great what's currently out there already is xDOh yeah, those are.definitely going into my cart when I get paid again, but until then I found a solution at radioshack for the time being
Once I get home I will post the results if I can get it up and running with these

Okie Dokie, well the nuts I got I have found appear to be nickel plated so I kept getting LO errors on the Provari when testing the Ohms. So I took one and sanded off the finish on the flat side and now finally it is working great! a nice 5 wrap of 30 gauge on a nice fat wick with a 3/64 inch channel down the center and it is making beautiful cloudsHere is the Setup
Can't wait to get the real parts though, but for now this will work to keep it running in the meantime

Nickel is still conductive, which means you wouldn't get an OP error because of that, so that leads me to believe that the nuts are coated in something else, and probably something that you don't want exposed to too much heat!! Just to be safe, you should sand down the entire nut, maybe boil it, and give it a nice long cooking with your torch to clean it off!
O M G!!! In my excitement I grabbed the wrong danged wire spool LOL I was trying to get a coil out of NR .999% Pure nickel wire Oiy now I feel sheepish LOL
Okay so all is good, I tried a non sanded nut and it works just as good as the one I sandedSo these are just fairly shiny stainless nuts apparently
Really cool because now I have 30 of them in case I have any more unfortunate fumbles with these ginormous mitts of mine LOL

And now onto a completely different train of though all together!
I just stumbled upon this on one of the Ecig related facebook groups, Of Wick & Wire, and I wanted to know if anyone has tried this yet? It's a neat idea, but I'm too skeptical to believe it works without testing it for myself.
30??? Better be careful or Jim may think you're stealing business.![]()
But at least I know I have backups just in case because I can foresee myself losing these things easily they are so tiny compared to my hands. I can hardly get a grip on them at all. Better use old batterys imho, thats a killer for a bat.
Hey, that's pretty cool. I'll give it a shot when I coil/wick the Gemini. Was there any more detail about juice on wick vs. dry, low batt vs. full, tight vs. loose coil, etc? I'm a bit skeptical too as I've had coil/wick setups that held hot spots/shorts for a lot longer than what he was doing in the vid, although I do believe in the "self-healing" powers that come with patience (for me it doesn't need to be perfect, just vapable and break-in usually fixes the rest).
Received my first ever Kick today, just in time to start trying it out in my BAM during our first heavy storm of the season. 12" of rain expected! The river is going on flood stage monitor alert tomorrow. There won't be much sunshine for my solar panels/batteries, but will check the thread whenever the sun breaks for a spell. Don't be having too much fun without me!
Oh yeh, the Kick. All I need to do is figure out where I'll want to set it. I like a fresh battery vape, in my mech mods and usually have a LR coil of some sort or another. Mine seem to change ohms every day lol. I'm thinking 8 watts should do me. Guess I'll see...
Wow, not too sure I'd brave that new fangled way to oxidize the wick. I'd probably pop coil after coil. It's interesting though...
Way cool on finding those replacement nuts Nate! I have one or two emergency sets on hand, but hope to get more. I like the new spring set idea, haven't yet tried that way yet, but might have to stock up on a few of those too.
Here's hoping Miriam's hangover is long over. Haven't heard much from her lately, must have been a doozy! Gotta watch those partying DID's y'know.![]()
I agree, it seems to me that purposely burning through shorts and hotspots would seriously be a bad idea. If you do use an older battery you also run the risk of it being less tolerant to this practice as well and may cause it to vent. An electrical expert can probably expand on that but this just seems like a very bad idea to me. I rarely even use the torch I have anymore because a cheap 99 cent bic lighter works just as good.
Sincerely;
