If it's not supposed to touch bottom or the sides of the hole, then I wonder why they don't put a nylon? spacer (sorta like what's on the hole the post goes through) around the outside of the hole, and a nylon? plate on bottom of tank? Seems like that would totally prevent all those problems.

Yes I have considered this and to help people who are having difficulty with their wicks I will soon have available on my site a silicon insert for the hole. This will isolate the wick against shorts on the sides of the hole.

Just an idea....
Do you think if I found a proper sized silicon O-ring would loosely go around the wick, but still fit within the hole, it would cut off the flow of juice to the coils? Or could the heat from the coils possibly melt the O-ring?

Well, it took me a couple of tries, but I think I got it.

I use what I've read as the Jack Frost method. (I hope I remembered his name right! LOL)
Sort of.... I just take a piece of mesh and burn it bright orange.
I don't have a torch, I usually just use my gas stove.
I hold it under the blue flame until it's bright orange, turning it to get all sides.

I do this for a good 3 or 4 minutes.

Then, if I get my wire wrapped right, I don't have any shorts.
My shorts only come from having my wire wrong.
Sometimes I have to rewrap a few times.

I have found heating the wire with a lighter once or twice makes it easier to "bend" around the wick.
And my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I tend to wrap my wire, then insert the wick with the wire around it
and tighten the ends as necessary.

That's just me.

My DID seems to be working pretty darn good now.
I'll give a tank or two to break in.

Edited to add:
I read somewhere, can't remember where, that some use the inside of a bic pen.
The plastic part. They cut off an end without ink in it and use that as an insulator.

Do yo think I should put an extra product
Top cap with 1mm airhole?
a choice?

Well, I wouldn't make any. I would offer them made as such, then they could order one if they wanted it like that. Why anyone would is beyond me. Then again - I would like a top cap drilled out to 2.0 mm. So to each his own.

I already have one that is stock and I drilled the second to 1.6 mm Both vape great, each shines with different flavors and drip tips. Now I just need a 5/64 hole

Just got my 4th DiD (order #755) delivered today. The tracking status still says somewhere in California BTW. The clear tubes from Kir Fanis also showed up. Here's the latest addition to the DID family :

I finally DID it.. Tried all different methods.. The one that Jim showed on his video works the best for me. Wrapping the coil right on the wick, then insert the wick and secure the contacts. I believe the standard nuts will work better than that grooved round nuts.. Did I say "nuts".. yeah! hahaha.. happy as an elephant! vapor production is awesome, Flavor too.. 3 wraps coil gave me 1.7 ohm.. Rocking it on my provari on 3.8V! Nice warm vape! Thank you Jim!
Just one last and quick question- is that normal for resistance to jump up and down? Not much tho.. From 1.5 to 1.8 ohm?

Yes, that"s a tanbur.

So far I haven't altered them. I have been on vacation so haven't had much time to toy with them. Whenever I feel like I need a less airy draw (like an HH357), I just press the power button for a couple of seconds before taking a drag. That seems to satisfy the craving.

here is some pics of it on my megalondon , ive got a gp paps that will be on its way soon and i think it will be a perfect match for the did

Think thats your coils stabilizing, if you dont play with your coils after it burned in it shouldnt change resistance anymore.
Noticed it to on provari with a fresh coil.

I just finished reading this entire thread. Been working on it all week. I plan to order one in the next week or two. I have a couple of quick questions before taking the plunge if any experienced users don't mind chiming in.
1. I understand that 32 kethanal is the most commonly used wire but which wick between 325 and 400 is the most versatile? I mainly vape bwb which other than malty is 70/30 pg/vg and I also use 100vg such as gorilla juice so I want to purchase the mesh that is best suited to vaping both as opposed to one or the other.
2. I just read on another forum a claim that the did is not very compatible with the provari and will result in e2 errors. Is there any truth to this statement? I exclusively use the provari and do not intend to purchase another. Just wanted reassurance from provari owners that the did runs flawlessly on their mod. I can't imagine it not working on the provari. I get those errors when an atomizer needs more drops. Perhaps they are getting the errors during a dryburn. Thanks for any thoughts on these questions.

Has anyone in the 600-700 order number range not received the DID yet? Mine was 670 (order 544 was DID combined with short tank 670) but it's still a no-show :( Still saying "processed through sort facility - ISC New York" been like that since the 24th of June. Getting a bit worried at this point... Thanks all

Congrats on receiving and working your DID!! (and to all others who've done so too).

I used the Jack Frost method too, burned the edges and screen over the stovetop flame. (didn't quench)
Next I rolled it onto the wrench, but I couldn't roll it small enough for the life of me.
Next, straightened out a medium sized paper clip and rolled it around that. Perfect!
Next, cut the tank's end of the mesh at an angle, measured and cut the top part off. (oops, should have left the top alone at this stage).
Next, oxidized and quenched 3 or 4x.
Next, dripped ejuice on it, set it afire let it go out, about 5 times.
Next, wrapped a cutout zigzig paper around the coil end.
Next, heated the wire, straightened with fingers
Next, wrapped the coil 4 times.
Next, inserted and tightened it down.
Next, fired er up in the dark and burnt the paper off. All coils glowing red!!!
Next, ejuiced the coil, and fired it off about 4x...
Next, noticed the top coil is off the mesh lol, and is a HALO over the wick,.. and she still fires up!

I used a non-fresh, mostly used up battery for the above steps.

I had to use a huge magnifying glass, my eyes are too old for fine details such as the wire that is as thin as a hair irl.
But, it's easy when you can "see".

My next mesh will be cut after I've coiled and inserted. (except the angled tank end, which will be cut beforehand and new edges burnt off).

All in all, I guess I said the same thing, just different eyes and an opps tossed in. :)

#1 either will work, 325 be better for 50/50 or higher VG. It might over wick a bit on the higher PG, but you can either pinch the top or raise voltage :D
#2 Monoxxide said it. I only have errors due to operator error, not the ProV. A little practice & even those go away
Just my :2c:

Don't worry , you should get it in a day or 2. I got #755 yesterday. Unlike my prev orders this didn't go to NY, instead came through California. No change in tracking before it shows up at your door.
