I hesitate to post this cause I don't know what kind of responce I will get from the DID police... But here I go. I was fighting shorts and one thing I did was shave a little off the bottom nut with my dremel so it is not so close to the screw. I am not saying that is the solution to everyones problems but it makes me feel better and works for me.

PLEASE stop all the negative comments against other users. We are all learning here. The last post I did a week ago, some said "maybe the DID is not for you".

I'm sorry you're having so many problems. Please PM me or hit me up on skype and I will walk you through troubleshooting any issues you're having.
I will do likewise for anyone else who's having problems with their DID! If your DID isn't performing like you think it should, you just can't set it up, or you have any general questions regarding the device, I implore you to skype me and I will do my best to help you out. I've available for video calls as well if that's what you're into. My username on skype is rick.wechsler

No one will (or should) flame you for posting a fix you've found. I thought about doing exactly what you're describing, but found if I coil flat against the base (counterclockwise) to shorten the distance between the wick and the open air portion of the wick, and then as soon as I make contact with the wick start angling up, I can clear the bottom nut (sorry, giggling a little, still sounds funny to me) I can clear it. Still, a little extra room there can't hurt as long as it does change the function of the bottom nut (lol, sorry got me again...)

Not trying to be smart or anything but,if you intentionally wrap it away from the nut or just adjust it above it there is no issue. There is no reason for Jim to change anything just those folks having issues just need to adjust how they do things.

Hey no offense taken. I know what the issue was and its fixed now. You can see a hundred videos of people wrapping the coil the exact same way I DID mine all that time. My issue was unique and solved by tweaking things that should not have been tweaked. No issues now though, but thanks for the input.

Thank You Mike. I took a screw driver and pried the positive post over. I also put the wire closest to the + lower nut only so it would not rock over towards the nut when it was tightened down. If you take a washer and lay it on top of a penny the lower far side of the washer will rock over in the opposite direction. So I reversed it making the screw head rock over towards the cap itself. Now I dont have a single issue. But thanks again for speaking up and showing us that I was not the only one with the problem. Nothing is perfect and being attacked for bringing that point up is totally uncalled for IMO. Im done. Check out how this thing is working now!!!!! I love it.

I know everyone mentions "when thats not the way Jim would want it done" but I would love to see "Jim" re-do a complete video from start to finish on how he thinks the DID shold be prepared. The video I saw on e-vape.gr, I am sorry to say was not too helpful. It was very basic steps. I would love to see detail. And anyone that does a video should get the camera off their face and focus on the device that they are explaining. Just my thoughts.

Jim, I do love the DID. I think it is the best device I had so far. I have 3 rebuildables. And this is the best and it is up there with your customer service.

Here we have it. My 4th issue with this Atty and although it now vapes well, it does leak in two places. So two issues fixed and two still here. On to the picture you can see the dark color on the side of the nut where the negative screw was causing a mild short. :(

Mine "was" doing the same thing. I don't think it was a defect in design or if I was even getting a true short at this juncture but what I ended up doing did kinda fix whatever "small" issue I was having. I read in the early posts Jim recommended wrapping the coils clockwise. This means the wire will go between the bottom brass nut and the mesh on the 1st turn/coil. I wrap my wire around the "outside" of the -negative- screw then turn in between the mesh and bottom brass nut, then finishing at the +positive+ brass nut opposite run of the brass nut tightening so it doesn't pull my wick into the mesh as I'm turning the nut. I know it sounds screwy but I keep "Mickey Mouse's head outline as a reference. The ears are your +/- , his head is the mesh wick. I start the circuit between the ears going in and leave the circuit going out the same way after my coils are wrapped. Maybe this will help someone, maybe it won't....maybe I'm dead wrong and all it's going to do is confuse the masses. But I really hope not. It does work for me and I get extremely stable Ω ohm readings that never change.

** TIP** For the bottom brass nut... I tightened it all the way down tight and snug...took a black Sharpie and marked the area next to the mesh....then took it off and grabbed the dremel and gave the nut a small flat spot to give some clearance and room for the coil to turn in and not short by touching it. WORKS LIKE A DREAM !!!! Take care and good luck everyone !!!

Hell, I'm happy to be of service. It's the least I can do to give back to Jim for putting in the hard work that he has towards making the DID such a well performing and easily accessible atomizer. He's done something revolutionary for the vaping community, making a top shelf rebuildable genesis atomizer that anyone can get ahold of without kissing the maker's ... or waiting indefinitely on a list, but by broadening the spectrum to include people whose vaping experience has been isolated to 510 atomizers and cartos, I think some level of accountability falls onto the shoulders of the experienced genesis users to help guide and inform the beginners, especially if we all want Jim to continue producing the DID's as quickly and precisely as he is.

For those who are new to rebuild ables you should go into it knowing that this is an advanced system. I am new to vaping (Feb 2012). I bought a fortunes worth of upgrades. It built into a hobby. Just like any hobby it requires time and learning. I have several different rebuildable at ties. By far the easiest are the line type ....make the wick wrap the coil (seems like no precision needed) fill and vape. Then comes the beauty and the need for tinkering (at least in my mad lab). I have a Katana, Orion, Defcon, and several DIDs. When my mail arrives this week I will have 6 DIDs. Of all my rebuildables the DID is hands down my favorite. It is also the most challenging to learn to setup ....but being a hobby I wanted the challenge. I don't sweat the hot spots or shorts ...I just keep plugging on to fix them. Each time I learn a bit more. I have made wick after wick and each time I get better at it. I have a lifetime supply of mesh and kanthal so I don't worry about waste. I have my 2 DIDs that have been running with the same wick and coil for over a month now, I vape on those as I build the new ones. This way I can take my time and enjoy the process. The flavor and amount of vapor from the DID is amazing, I can vape and vape and the wick never seems to dry out, I think my lips will burn before the wick dries out. (I just ordered some glass drip tips to eliminate the hot lips). If you are looking to spend $100 on something that works in 2 minutes then rebuildables may not be the best choice. Thankfully we all belong to a group of like-minded vapers who love nothing more than to help another overcome a challenge. I can't even begin to thank everyone on these forums for their sharing of wisdom. I don't post much but I read. When I have a problem with a rebuildable I know that the problem is mine and not the device (leaks and other issues may be device related - but flavor and vapor are 100% user related). I have had missing parts but Jim is a wonderful humble man who is here for us and makes it right .....how many other mod makers are as accessible to their customers .....I can only think of 1 other. So if you bought a DID enjoy the challenge of getting the perfect setup and don't sweat the user errors ....learn from them ....ask for help ....when you get it right put a feather in your cap and be there to help the next person who may have a similar problem. I appreciate Jim and the solid build of the DID ....it will likely outlive me. And I use the DID on my 3 provaries without issue ....although I have had my fair share of E1 and E2 errors ...all just another part of the challenge and learning curve. Once you do it right it works for a long time. Next I will learn how to clean my coils as a month of banana nut bread seems to be finally gunking up my coils (the flavor is still awesome though). Enjoy your DID and appreciate this community. We are all vapers looking to create perfection.

Maybe get one of those tank adapters for the eGo?
No way! (it's on there only temporary for Jim to GASP and get those Mini's out)
But then again, that would make the connection a little elegant. :D

Hey UMA, hows it? No offense, but your set up is so funny. Thanks for posting it, I needed a good laugh. Whatever works huh. :vapor:
Me too!! LOL. I couldn't resist. Glad it made at least one person laugh. :)

(and hopefully it made Jim GASP lol)

Don't make me post another eGo pic guys.
hmmmm, I wonder if it'll fit on my Volt with an adapter....

Glad things are working out!
File the sides of the nut with the volt? Hey wait a minute! I resemble that remark..

LOL, too funny...

Actually, I've been thinking about a pair of twists with a pair of Minis for my new carry around. How do you like them with the DID (odd "symmetry" aside)

No problem.I posted a comment when I first got mine and learned(after 3x-4x of popped coils and hotspots) what I think is the most important step in building the DID and that was to make sure the wick is right before you go any further.I found if it was not acceptable nothing else would be either and used the example of building a house and the block foundation being off just a little in the beginning and by the time the roof is put on it would be a huge mistake.Everybody learns things differently, some by instruction, some by sight, and some people just do it enough times the wrong way the finally arrive at the right way.It really makes no difference how you get there as long as you get there and the trip is usually the most enjoyment.Glad you got it figured out and under control now enjoy it!:D

It actually vaped well, much like my LT, except smaller of course. It's just a little awkward to hold at first... and it wobbles easily on the table... but hey, if it works it works! I'm going to love the Mini! DID and Can't wait!

You guys are doing it wrong
This is how I roll with my DID :p

we need someone to post a video who can setup the DID perfectly right
so I'm asking anyone who had really good experience with the DID to post a video, it is going to be really really helpful for all DID owners

I agree with the foundation thing. But if something else is off the wick is suspect according to the importance people keep putting on it. Its done to death IMO. In the first few weeks before I found out that the intake hole was plugged on the inside from metal when the hole was drilled the wick and coil was suspect in my eyes. I oxidized one wick so mush that it peeled like a banana. That was weeks of work I could have done with out.

I think someone like me should post your clip. Not only is it imp to know what to do when it all works well, but what to do when it don't. This atty made me a pro rather I wanted it or not. But really the more people making video the better. My channel is a ghost town for the most part.
