I seem to be DID Challenged! Poking, pulling, moving and nothing seems to get this thing humming. My current coil is a steady 2.2Ω and at 4.1 volts I'm getting whimpy vapor! Tomorrow I guess I'll go buy some cigarette papers and try that technique.
Hang in there Pete! Not everyone can have the beginners luck that I seemed to have enjoyed with my first two coils. I am dreading the day that I have to fidget with coils etc. because I'll be scratching my head trying to figure out how I was able to do it without any issues before.
Just so you know, here's the process I used with my first two.
* I started with the coil first. I used a screw to wrap the coils on. The tip of the screw just barely fit the hole that the wick goes into.
* Once the coil was wrapped, I measured and dry burned it, just to make sure it worked. Set DID aside.
* Cut sheet of mesh, and oxidize every single mm of it, before rolling.
* I rolled it on the allen key that was provided with the DID to a thickness where I practically had to screw it into the coils.
* Once it was rolled to size, I burnt it and burnt it, till it was almost black.
* Cooled it down, quenched it with about 4 drops of juice, and fired it with a lighter. Did this 4 times, making sure that the fire was moving up the wick as it died out.
* I then inserted it into the coil all the way to the bottom, and then lifted it just a tad bit.
* Cut to top of centre post, make sure it's wicking well, and put it to work.
I also watched as many videos as I could of folks putting the DID together, along with wrapping wicks and coils. It helps.. every single one of them helps.
