I how about a DID question (big brotha is watching )

I know Miriam was a special case, but has anyone else ordered replacement center pin/shiny nuts and received the new SS setup instead? Yesterday, for the 1st since time I've become a DIDiot, I was having misfires on my VV Gripper all day. I was ready to chuck it out the window on the way home from work. When I got home and went to fill the tank (and put it back on the Provari) I realized that the top nut had come loose which explained why it worked for little while after each dashboard smash... Not that SS would erase my own stupid human error, but that new finger nut design would've let me fix it on the go.

I too am watching for the new screws. I have noticed, when did is on the go, those nuts sometimes loosen, and unless I have a pin or other implement, its tough to re-tighten. The new design seems to solve. Btw, the above is a problem because if the nuts loosen, I often get top to pole hot spot.

I have 2 replacement center posts ordered (my stupidity and not a manufacturing problem). I did email Jim to see if the replacements would be stainless steel (I would have ordered more if they were) he said the stainless steel was just for the mini right now. Will post on his site when the ss available. Miriam may be playing with a prototype.

What's up, Giant? :) You don't really need a link for the Jack Frost method, as far as I know. Someone may come correct me, but I think it's just torching your mesh before you roll it.

Sweet, so just so I'm clear:

1. Torch mesh until it glows red (make sure to get entire piece including edges) just 1 time
2. Roll wick
3. Juice burn optional

I have the same problem! Waiting for new post. It is a real pain in the ... to use my Provari with the DID...

Am confudies if I must tell Jim to replace my Mini order with Shot DID or another normal one , since I get The DID and I can say I decover a new era of Vape, Something I didnt test before I cant keep my ProV2 with The DId setup away from me the test just Great and the liquid not burnning so fast as other Genesis Atty .
The did made me really fined some thing new am even think about get 1 or 2 beside the one I have and the mini on the way .

I think I will ask Dusty about what he think the Mini DId will look on Matt Pipe or I should go with Short DID

All over the place
I'm with you - I dont like any of my tobacco juices in any genisis. The other juices I have though really shine. Especially the sweeter juices, fruits, etc.

That's one of the problems I have. I only have tobacco juice, and a lot of it. I have a couple non-tobacco juices too high in mg for the DID. I do have some Bobas (that's about as non-tobacco as it generally gets for me) and I really don't care to vape sweeter juices. So I will wait to see if I can get my DID shining with Bobas, but if I have to learn to love/appreciate sweet juices or non-tobaccos, then I may have to re-think this. I am not one of those frustrated with the DID itself, but flavor of my tobaccos is what I seek above all else. One of my favorite tobaccos tasted so damn funky in the DID that I've had to put that flavor away until I forget that taste. I remember wondering about flavors and this device, but you have to try for yourself to know. Flavors matter.

My DID is bleeding???

I have never seen this before, so posting some pics here to see if anyone else has experienced this before. I have a stable coil @ 2ohms no visible hotspots, no metallic taste, a little less vapor production though than i normally have but other than that everything seems ok.

I did use a new sheet of 42 micron 300 Mesh (have been using the 400 Jim added up to now)

That looks to be your juice, leeching back down your wick similar to what would happen in a carto tank. What juice are you using? There may be some ingredient in there that may be reacting with the heat and causing it to discolour with a reddish tinge.

That is just the thing, it is the same clear RY4 i always use and normally it stays clear until the last drop in the DID. So i know it is not the juice.

The larger mesh configuration may be allowing more air to get in between mesh cells and help cause the leeching. Do you still have some of your old "used" mesh lying around? If so, give it a squeeze and see if you get the same reddish juice on your fingers or tissue..

I just squeezed and rolled the old mesh i took out between my fingers and a white tissue and it just gets wet, no color what-so-ever. So I am guessing it has something to do with the new mesh i am using since everything else is the same.
I have just seringed everything out of the DID, and then used seringe with water to flush out the tank to clean it and keep my setup the same. Have filled it with a different clear RY4 now (a PG instead of VG) and am going to see if it stars bleeding again.

I notice that my ADV has gotten darker in my tank, but I'm not noticing any bleeding effect with my setup. Curious to see how this works out. I would torch that wick once more, or do a juice burn on it .. just because. :)

Close!
1. Torch mesh until it glows red (orange?) Make sure to get both sides and all edges at least 1 time, but 2 passes doesn't hurt. (Use the BLUE flame of the stove top, or a torch that provides a blue flame)
2. Fold the far edge over slightly, creasing the fold tighly like we crease paper.
3. Roll the wick (make sure it fits inside the hole when done).
4. Juice and burn is not optional, it's an important step to do.
That's all there is to it for the Jack Frost method.

Optional with the Jack Frost method is:
3a. Torch the rolled wick, dunk hot wick in cold water, repeat 2x more times for a total of 3x (called Quenching)
4. outlined above. (juice and burn off juice 3x total)

Clear as mud?

The lack of vapor that you usually get, plus the discoloration of juice, migh mean there's a minor short and the juice isn't burning properly enough to vaporize and it's running back down your wick.
I've read about this on other genny threads, but don't remember the details, except that it might be a minor short.
I hope someone knowledgeable steps in shortly to help solve this discoloration puzzle.

Bummers that the tpical gennys don't like many of the tobacco juices. You might want to go with the Spheroid or Penelope for a rebuildable. Those use different types of wicks. In fact, the Spheroid uses the good old fashioned fluff stuff but in a much nicer and friendlier way. Check out Igetcha69's review on it. They're great for the tobacco flavors.

But, I would clean and keep your DiD. The Politics over eCigs is ... insert censored word here.... as I'm sure you know. I'm sure you're subscribed to the Legislature Forum here at ecf too.

Besides, we may yet just run across a flavor/brand that out shines all others in all other attys as well.

Uma beat me to it, Giant! And her numbered lists are much more helpful than whatever I would have come up with. ;)

Yeah, I am not too worried about it (not the politics, but how it works with my flavors). The most awesome part of the DID is that you don't have to wait around wishing on a star for a chance at getting the opportunity to try it out. I always knew that my particular flavor needs were a bit of a road block to a device that was suitable. I must reiterate that I have no problems with the DID. It was of little consequence to me as to whether I fell in love with the flavor or not, my biggest goal was to get a damn RA in my hands to get working. The DID has provided me an opportunity that NO other could: accessibility. For that I am eternally grateful.
