It's kinda funny but I've had my DID for less than a week and I just finished my 10th coil setup. Not that I had to, mind you, but practice makes perfect. The funny part is that I don't believe I've used the same technique twice! I'm currently trying a coil wrapped on screw, mounted to test, double barrel mwa drop in wick!!! I believe this DBMWA wick is a keeper for me!
Oh and thanks for taking out the trash Classy! Hope your DID arrives in time for our meet up on Saturday!

I'm vaping right now on a coil wrapped on a screw, my first one, working quite good, I can now take out the mesh and do a dry burn on the coil, I think I'm always going to do this from now on !

The DID tutorial is complete! When it's all done rendering and uploading, it will be my pleasure to bring the genesis community 45 minutes of crystal clear, 1080p, fingerless coil and wick building, general genesis tips, and the complete guide to blowing the biggest clouds your lungs have ever seen.

Couple of thoughts

How big is your hole in the center of your wick? Larger holes will typically cause more regurgitation back into the tank. Also if your hole is large it might make the fill screw necessary for pressure, if its narrow, the opposite.

I know this is sacrilege, but try taking your wicks that are regurging and torch them, re insert and vape without juicing and lighting on fire.

Are you sure you don't have a 'subclinical' short? As others have said, shorts always seem to cause reflux into the tank. I'll take a perfectly good set up, screw it up, and then as I'm trying to fiddle and get it working again I can see the formerly clear juice filling with...crapola :)

Sometimes, I think, shorts aren't obvious. You won't get an E1/E2 on the Provari. You won't even see uneven glow. I had an issue the other day where my coils were 1.4, but 1.6 with the wick. Something was just off flavor wise. I tightened up the wick some and reinserted, things stabilized at 1.4 and the vapor/flavor sorted out perfectly. My guess was I was actually conducting through the wick, or maybe even the body of the atty. For this reason checking resistance without, and then with, the wick is a big deal, at least for me :)

Just running my mouth because I use VG 12-18 mg unflavored 90% of the time and no fill screw, but get zero reflux, crystal clear from start to finish. The one thing that may be an odd ball here is my wicks as of late are incredibly dense, the center hole barely accommodates a straightened safety pin

Yesterday I talked about being late to the party; well, there used to always be a few things that could make me stick around. Never in a million years would I have thought in 2012 a damn youtube video could make me hang around and wait for the goods to get a (my) party going. Sorry for the parallels and obtuse nostalgia. :D

Really looking forward to your video!

Just got my self some kanthal 30 for low resis coil based on your earlier post.

4. Reduce your number of wraps and/or branch out into 30g kanthal (I suggest 3/2 wraps, which will give you a 0.8-1.0Ω coil)

It's 5:15 am now, which means I've been cutting and perfecting the tutorial for 6 straight hours. It's 50 minutes long and is currently exporting from iMovie, which will take 2-3 more hours, plus add on another few hours for it to upload to YouTube. Im really pleased with how it turned out, but my only fear/reservation about it is that I'm afraid the file will be too big or the video too long for YouTube to allow me to upload it in one piece. Ally and I put a tonnn of hard work into getting this video put together, and i must say that im going to sleep easy tonight knowing that it's finished. It'll be all worth it for me if it helps out even just 1 single person, but I have a feeling that it might serve more than that, as long as the ridiculous length doesn't deter anyone from checking it out. Good night overyone, time for sleep.

Typically as the coil gets bunker up the resistance increases. If yours is dropping like that then something is not right. Check your nuts and make sure the wire from the negative is really along the bottom right. I actually push it in like I am tightening the last coil on the wick.
Progress report: My coil finally dropped down into the 1.0-1.1 ohm range, and that was a bit too much current flow for my liking. I also attempted to "twist" my wick out to clean, but found I had wrapped the coil much tighter than I should've. It wouldn't budge without destroying my coil :( So ended up pulling that coil off and tearing down the entire DID for a quick cleaning.

I too noticed the center brass post was oxidizing in the center, can juice really work its way down through the top nut and insulator?! I polished up the center post (pencil eraser really does work nice, as does a bit of flitz) and will rebuild a new coil soon. I had also thought my wick was a "fat" wick, but there was actually a decent gap between the wick and wick hole. Thinking I will start completely over (but will save the old wick for use later) and attempt to use the supplied allen wrench for a fatter wick.

I have a couple of questions as well, seeings as I use the DID on non-regulated 3.7V , as well as VV devices, I'd like to keep it somewhat LR. Would it be wise to use a 4/3 wrap of 32AWG, that way when the resistance drops .3~ ohms or so, I'll be right where I want to be? Are most of you seeing that sort of drop with coils after a couple of days of use? I may even try my 30AWG Kanthal, but really want a coil that stabilizes around 1.5 ohms or higher (that 1.1 ohm coil REALLY sucks down my batteries)

Also, when people refer to a "double coil" are they talking about doing a twisted/braided coil? Not sure I'm ready to try that just yet, though it sounds like it'd work great!

Sorry for rambling, just a bit bummed I'm DID-less for the moment. Though it's a good excuse to practice my gen. setup skills, and another good reason to have a second (or third) DID in my collection :)
For a LR easier setup try using 30 awg and do a 5/6 wrap which should bring you in to the 1.6 or 1.8 ohm range. The wire is thicker and much less fussy to set up.
I am also using a double twisted coil using 33 way. This is also great and does bring in a LR coil that produces copious amounts of vapor yet is not fussy on the setup. Twisting the wires is really easy. I just used my hands.

Just a quick note. The Double Barrel MWA wick set up (from this point forward to be known as the DBMWA Wick) has been putting out clouds of great tasting vapor for me. I don't know if I just got lucky with this set up or not but I can't believe the difference. Matt, if you're reading this, thanks!

Hard work is gratifying unto itself; the fact that it helps others is fortifying. As far as the time of the video goes, the longer the better IMO. I think, generally, short videos are great for those that are familiar with the topic or for less detail oriented subjects. (Long juice review: Bad; Long gensesis atty tutorial: Good!) I imagine you put a lot of thought into it; for that thought and the subsequent execution of that thought, I thank you.

How big is your hole in the center of your wick? Larger holes will typically cause more regurgitation back into the tank. Also if your hole is large it might make the fill screw necessary for pressure, if its narrow, the opposite.

The new wick i made with the 300 mesh is a real FAT wick, with a large center hole. I indeed get more vapor and awesome wicking with the fill screw firmly in place. I can also add that with the fill screw in place it performs awesomely and i do not get the bleeding effect.

Are you sure you don't have a 'subclinical' short? As others have said, shorts always seem to cause reflux into the tank. I'll take a perfectly good set up, screw it up, and then as I'm trying to fiddle and get it working again I can see the formerly clear juice filling with...crapola :)

No shorts what-so-ever, without the wick in the coils i get 2 ohms and i get the same consistent 2 ohms with the wick in place. It is not touching bottom or top and there are no hot spots, the taste is awesome and the vapor production is awesome (although when i take the fill screw out, the taste is still ok but the vapor production is less and the bleeding happens)

With the fill screw in my juice now stays crystal clear from the first to the last drop too. I am still not sure if it is purely to do with the fill screw or also with the new wick (the 300 mesh). When i make a new wick with 400 mesh i will do this same test again (making the wick the same dimensions) to see what happens. For now I am really content with my setup so this will have to wait until i get my 2nd DID, or until i become fiddly again ;-)

I shall prepare my Provari with a fresh battery, put my DID on it with a fresh refill of my favorite juice and a nice glass of 12 year old sherry and then sit down to watch your video ;-)

Thanks a million for posting this one. I just canceled the order for over 4,100'. I was serious about getting a vapor bomb going in my DID. 200' will be more then enough and no worry about getting rid of all that wire. :D

It's been said, but I'm gonna say it again: Thanks for your dedication, your passion, and your attention to detail. And thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks to everyone on this thread. So many awesome, helpful folks here. :toast:

Miriam will have her sherry, and I'm gonna hunt down a bottle of Oaked Arrogant ....... just for the occasion. If that doesn't work out, it will be a Tecate tall boy tonight. :vapor:
