Just take your time. Have another PV with
juice available so you can vape while you work.Form the wick I use the jack frost method. I cut my mesh the length of the tank and to the top of the nuts (hate waste) then about 3/4" wide. Doesn't matter what mesh you use they all wick superbly on the DID. With my little rectangle of mesh help with some little pliers or tweezers I crank up the propane torch. I make the whole thing glow red for just a couple of seconds per side. Not forgetting the little corner under the tweezers.
Then I fold about 2mm on one of the long sides and roll it on a 14ga needle. Some use the wrench but the likes on the wrench bug me. I tighten the roll up making sure the turned under end is on the outside. Then run it briefly through the torch flame. I personally don't quench. You can the apply liquid the length if the which and burn with a regular lighter twice.
Using the same 14ga needle put back into the wick I now start to wrap my coils. With 30awg wire I do a 5/4 wrap which brings me in at 1.5 to 1.7 ohms. With 32 way I so stones do a 3/4 wrap brings me in at 1.8, or a 4/5. Brings me in at around d 2.2 ohms.
I then slide the which with the needle still in place into the wick hole. I snug up the coils and secure the bottom negative first ...(I run the wire around the back). Then I snug up the top coils and wrap clockwise around the brass nuts. Tighten down the nuts. Put whatever PV you are using at its lowest setting and gently pulse. Turn wick or move coil wires a smidgen until the whole could glows pretty and even. Once this is loo,king good I make sure all my nuts are tight .....test the could again. Trim off the extra wire and you are ready for juice.
I have found the less I torch the easier it is to get a short free wick.
thank you. im ready for a little trial and error. ive got some 400 mesh and some 30 wire and will get more with the did but not sure of what.
im doing a crash course on the did tonight and will for the next few days.
