I'm on the wall. GG or provari. Tony

Both have their strengths. I love my Provari V2, but I'm in awe of my GGTS.

Provari: i like using resistance checker for building coil/wick as I know more about what's going on by seeing changes. I like being able to change voltage to suit what ever juice/coil combo I've built. I like constant regulated voltage - first hit as good as the last.

GGTS: Don't care about any of that because I have a default build I really like and no matter what I throw at it - push the button and it goes. I'm not a high wattage vapor, so am planning on adding a kick to get over the regulated voltage thing...

Something odd, that may just be in my head, I feel like I get a more pure experience from the mech mod. Not sure if regulated voltage changes flavor, but until the voltage on the batteries starts dropping, the GGTS flavor production just seems unmatched (JMHO, YMMV)

Edit: and for me at least, the GGTS just looks so cool

I own 2 vmaxes and a zmax is en route to me. I use the DID almost exclusively on the v's. I find the combination provides for an exceptional vape and the ability to adjust voltage and see the coil resistance at the press of a button are indispensable conveniences for me.

I caution that due to the PWM power delivery of the max's they will not tolerate anything less than a perfect wick/coil setup, therefore it can be very frustrating to get right particularly if you're an RBA beginner. The PWM makes these devices extremely sensitive to hot spots and shorts. If you're good at eliminating these the power of the max's with a good DID setup can be very rewarding. If you're not, these devices will represent a nightmare, at least in the beginning. As good as I've become making wicks and coils, I still have my bad moments with these devices but for me, they're worth it.

Thanks for the feedback fuzzione, I'm not sure you, or at least I can enjoy the DID with hotspots or shorts, the flavor is always off with these issues, and even if it takes me all night (morning has broken, the dam birds are tweeting, yes DID I still love you )I have to eliminate them.
As time goes by I slowly get my method down and I figure I always have the lavatube and egos to get it right on before I move my setup over to the ZMAX.
I love the flexibility of the lavatube, but hate the power limitations, and although I am sure to get a mechanical mod as soon as money allows, as I understand it I would have to set up all my genesis atomizers with the same res. coil to swap from one to the other on the mechanical.
I am still torn, but the ZMAX is winning at present primarily for flexibility.

Oxidizing the wick is obviously key to a good set-up, but there are so many conflicting methods posted here it can be hard to settle with a method without constantly feeling like you're doing it wrong.
Eg: 1."Oxidize the hell out of that wick" 2."I get better results with minimal torching, just 'jack frost', roll and coil".

Does anyone have a definitive answer to the BEST WICK OXIDIZATION METHOD?

Thanks again fuzzione.

Studiovap. The way to get the most out of an amp limited device is to make sure your coils are higher ohm. If you use 32 awg kanthal and make a 5/4 wrap, you should be around 2.8Ω. At that reading you can turn the voltage up to 5.6 volts which would draw 2.0 amps and provide you with 11.2 watts of power. That should be enough to provide you with a more than acceptable vape.

I DID it Pete resurrected an old coil with 6 wraps put it on my current wick and the Lavatube is groovin, or at least shimmying :2cool:

I cut off about 6 feet (or so). I fold it in 2. The end with the loop I hook over my dining room chair (has wood that sticks up). Then the 2 cut ends I put in a drill and use a screwdriver bit that I tighten nice and tight. This holds the wire nice and tight. Then I step back putting a bit of tension on the wire I want to twist. Crank the drill. I twist until the twists are about 1mm apart. Make sure the twists are tight the whole way. I unhook it from my dining room chair first. Support the twist a bit because it will twist a bit when first unhooked. Then free it from the drill and voila you have a gorgeous twisted 33awg wire. I cut mine after coiling into the size of pieces that I use to make a coil.

I read on another post someone is using a Dremell, bend a 2 meter length piece and clamp the bend in the chuck then short bursts on the dremell.

Thanks guys worked great. I recoiled using 33 awg, using your drill method and came up with a perfect 2.0 coil. Once again I must say the thicker the wire, in my case 33 awg twisted, the easier the set-up. No shorts, no messing around at all. I set it up, and it worked. I am beginning to think the higher the resistance, (thinner the wire), the more likely to have shorts or problems. This is the second time I have used a thicker wire. First I used 30 awg, and it worked without any shorts, next this twisted attempt, and again no shorts. Because of the lack of shorts, flavor is really coming through. I had used kanthal 32 exclusively prior to these last two attempts, and always, a certain amount of fussing was necessary to get it to perform without shorts. Not that it can't be done, merely required a bit more work to get there. Thicker wire must be more stable. I am of course careful in setting up to proceed with common sense, wick close to top of center-pole but, not touching, ground wire lays on bottom until beginning its climb, coil tight, but not to tight, coil spaced evenly etc.... but, post set-up toying with top shorts or mid shorts have been non-existent with the thicker wire. I am also pretty comfortable with 2.0 ohm on my vv device, my sweet spot dialing in at 4.0-4.2 volts. Just thought I'd share.

So the gg can fit the kick with 18650? I was looking for the ss and brass. Not all ss.
Don't see that as an option on cov.
The only issue with the gg is the button placement. I prefer a top side. But how hard I am on stuff I figure the gg can keep up with me. Also a fully charged battery is to hard of a hit on 2/3 coil. That's the reason I'm looking at the provari. Like you said. Constant vape. Figure 1.2 ohm at 3.7 the provari can handle. I wish I could test one for a week or so.

After all those pretty wicks & coils, thought i'd post mine :)

S1460001.jpg

Sure it won't win any beauty contests but what I really like about my coils is RELIABILITY and ease of construction, this particular one has served me well @ a stable 3.3ohms/6V for over two weeks now. No shorts or hot spots or whatever, no more stressing and wondering how long it will last this time...

Pretty on the outside, a mean looking and performing machine on the inside :)

If you're still struggling with DID stability, try a nasty looking wick/coil like this one, I described the procedure on page 678...

The million dollar question. :)

Put it on a mech mod add juice burn add juice bun. Copy and past add juice burn 50 times :) until no hot spots. enjoy for a while until need to change (months)start process over. Ask same question again.

I use my old LT (Magenta color with drilled all the way through vent hole) at 3.7 and 4.2 with my DID's all the time!
My Major DID with a 3/2 coil (400/32) and my Mini DID with a 5/4 (400/32). So far, so good!!! Well, until the foot broke off the center post on my Major DID and quit working on the LT a week later. (took it a week to realize something was missing lol).

I also use the Mini DID with the 5/4 on my eGo's. So far so good.
Tighten the nuts with every refill, and it's good to go, with mine.

I'm waiting on Customs for my (wow0wow0wow) Roller Mod from Atmizoo which should be in this week, as well as a ShortStop fuse from electronicstix and a Volt/Ohm meter-reader from MadVapes and will be rocking the Roller in style. (I might be oversafe? but I don't want a collapsed spring). Eventually I'll get a Kick for it too, and the Kick adapter case from Atmizoo as well.

I thought about the Zmax, and almost talked hubby into getting on that co-op list, (I was a tentative), but we decided to wait for a little while yet. The Menu isn't much easier than the Provari, and the Button isn't as warrantied for all that button pushing, ... but if they last longer than 6 months, I'll get one from a store somewhere. (I don't mind paying extra for research, when I can).
(I've avoided the Provari menu for what, 2 years now?? but might get a Mini if I don't get a zMax).

Just my thoughts. :)

PS. Oh! And I oxidize the heck out of my wick. That's what works best for me, I don't know about for you. We have different "torches". I use a stove top so far, with a fairly decent burner on it, but it's not a super burner like on some, and it takes a few minutes both sides and all edges... probably takes me about 5 minutes but seems like 10.

P.S.S. The Roller has a top-side side all mechanical button for those interested. :)

I'm still learning the world of GG. but it looks like you can either drop down to 18490/500's with default TS setup or add an additional tube extension and run with a 18650.

Interestingly, I just rebuilt a Mini (4/5 34awg twisted coil on 500 mesh thick wick ~70mm wide) and when I went to check on the Provari got all kinds of E1 errors. I didn't fell like messing with it, so stuck on the GGTS. I noodled with the coil just enough to get a couple coils glowing and then juiced and vaped. It tastes/hits amazingly well. I have no sea what resistance, but am going to let the GGTS break in the coil and then check it later. Another really cool thing I discovered is that the Mini actually fits inside the collection tank without the outside ring on. To me at least, looks like they were made to be together:

Has anyone had any luck / does anyone have any advice for "brushing" a polished SS DID??

Preferably by hand or with the use of a dremel?

I have several dremel attachments that would likely do the job, but am concerned about it looking completely uneven.

I've had great luck brushing out scratches in already brushed devices, but have never attempted to fully brush a polished device of any kind...

They're producing a Kick Adapter tube thingie as I type. :)
They take all feedback and issues very seriously. Great company!!!
I don't have mine yet, it's still in customs.

I have no experience, but I read this tip yesterday, so fresh in mind and not wonkered yet: "use wet/dry sandpaper, 400 and finer sandpaper. The finer the sandpaper, the better".

Sorry that this pic doesn't exclusively picture the DID, but I thought it was worth sharing. This is the kit of PVs that I brought with me on my month long trip! Standard DID, Shorty DID, Mini DID, P+16, P+18650, 2 GGTSs, 2 Odys, Penelope, Provari, ZAG, and an Orion v2.1. Backups for my backups for my backups...

Having a blast in Amsterdam btw! When I'm out and about at home, I usually try and limit the size of the clouds I blow, out of fear of attracting any negative attention (especially from the police), so it's nice to be able to walk down the street blowing obnoxiously huge clouds knowing that even if I was getting high, it'd be totally fine!
