I guess I am giving up. I "ain't" no dummy, I have an IQ of 135, I can take anything apart - find out whats wrong with it -- fix it --- and put it back together. Every new project I have done the first time, usually takes me a couple of hours to figure it out -- and by the end of the day, I am usually fairly proficient at it. Usually everything except, this darn DID.

The first wick, I followed all the videos I studied while waiting for it to ship. Pre-burn, fold edge, roll, three burn and quench, three juice burns, don't let wick touch the bottom. I wrapped a coil, kept shorting out, so I tried another coil.....same thing, then wick got bent, so I rolled another.

The second wick seemed to work, but the flavor wasn't that good and had a metallic taste. I read another post saying the same thing about the metallic taste, and they got the answer that the mesh wasn't oxidized enough.

I rolled a third wick and burned the cr-p out of it. Instead of three burns, I DID five burns and made sure it was nice and black. I DID a three coil wrap. It worked, no shorts and a constant 1.8om for three days. Flavor wasn't that great, and the vapor was just mediocre, and I had to really tip it up to wick the juice. Came here and posted about it, I was told to make sure the wick was snug in the hole (not to tight), and a couple other things to watch out for.

The fourth wick I made thicker with slight tension in the hole, DID the extra burns, four coil wrap. I had bought a lighted magnifying glass, and made sure the whole coil was touching the wick (but not to tight). I had shorts again. Tried two new coils on this wick. I figured maybe the wick was too tight in the hole and the oxidation was getting scraped off the wick when it was sliding in the hole.

So I made a fifth wick, slightly smaller. Used magnifying glass, DID every thing else the same. And I had the same problem with this one as I had all along. Got the coil all nice and even, then tighten the nuts which caused the top coil to get too tight making a hot spot on that top coil. and like usual, I turned the two nuts counter clockwise to loosen up the top coil, then it glowed perfectly. DID some test vaping, it was "OK" then error sign. Opened it up and noticed the nuts got loose, I tightened them up/checked the top coil again. I had to re-tighten the nuts (((((((4)))))))) times. My fingernails were all worn down from messing with those nuts. Tooth picks were breaking trying to tighten those nuts. I felt like throwing the Da-n thing out the window.

So, I took that "Darn-Blasted Thing" off my ProVeri and installed my Boge Carto, and saw all that vapor pouring out of my mouth, and that WONDERFUL clean crisp taste, and started to wonder---- WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING!

So, I have already spent the money for this, so I guess after I get verified -- I'll go on the Classifieds and See if I can swap this thing for a Steam Machine.

Dont give up turnforward. I traded my first did to for just the same reason as you and im so happy i gave it another shot, got a couple now :).
For the problem you have it might be smart to get a spare set nuts, on page 803 u can see my setup with 4 nuts. The metalic taste i was facing was because of wick touching topcap (to long) but it can be couple things.
It literaly takes me 5 minutes now to make a coil now (with 1 paralized hand), know this doesnt help you but its realy worth it to give it some time.
Put it away for a few days and try again later.

+10 !!!
I don't know how you do it, you earn all my respect and then some, Mono. What an inspiration for us all, especially on those grrr days.
I completely agree with you too. It's so worth mastering the DID!!
TurnForward, you'll get it! Just let it rest in a drawer for a few days, watch the videos again, and somewhere, somehow, a big AHA!! will come to you.

Have you checked the direction of your nuts? They have a concave and a convex side on my DID and when I tighten them with the convex sides touching - they always get loose! Just flip them around, I prefer mine concave to concave.

Thanks you for giving me encouragement to continue. I really don't want to be defeated by this thing. You mentioned the nuts, I guess he changed the post and the nuts to the stainless steal on all the new orders. I received my DID a couple of weeks ago, and that is what I got and both sides of the ss nuts are the same. The other difference in the ss nuts is that the retaining nut for the post is an elongated nut with the width of two, and the filler and ground screws are a lot taller than the original with ridges for finger tightening and a slot for a mini screw driver. (This post of mine has a picture of my set up--- http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...enesis-type-atomizer-did-196.html#post7393999 )

Because of watching the videos that the young guy "kid" made, I ordered an extra set of the nuts, and the extra set that I received were the copper ones. I was going to try to use the extra set instead, but they are wider than the ss ones, which ended being too close to the wick (Papers width away), I thought it would add to shorting problems.

Monoxxide, I have ECF set up to show more posts per page than normal. My page numbers only go up to 203 pages today. What is your post number?

Also, is my extra torching of the wick (5 times total) helping of hurting?

Does the oxidation easily rub off from adjusting the coils and sliding into the hole, enough to cause shorts?

Does everyone's top coil get too tight when tightening the nuts, where you have to adjust it again?

Yes nevermind my setup picture then, i have the "old" brass inners. Dont know much about the full SS version since dont have that.
I know in my first weeks i overtorched that thing to, also had the urge to tighten coils way to tight.
You do any juiceburns at all?
Personaly i only torch both sides from mesh 2 times before rolling and after rolling 3-4 juiceburns.
Sliding wick in hole you shouldnt bother about, long as the part where your coils are on is oxidized its ok.
Try to keep your wire against the ground till you reach the wick then work your way up and make sure the fold from your wick is not facing the centre post.

You can also try to wind your coils on a drillbit thats inserted in wickhole then they are nice and even. Fire the coils up few times after taken drill bit out, read your ohms, then roll wick just so it slides trough your coils easely. If your ohms still reading same after sliding wick in your good to go and can fiddle bit with coils if there happen to be a gap here and there between wick and coil. Slowly up your voltage from there on. After you got it down a few times you wont need all those little "make it easyer" things anymore and do it out hand.

*edit*
Just checked your picture and post you linked to. You dont need a more expencive torch, i know people who make their wicks on a cookingstove. Imho you can overtorch a wick and make it brittle. Dont forget that the first tank your wick is still settling in to, alto there shouldnt be any metalic taste but the wicking/taste will become gradualy better.

excuse spelling, english sucks.

The fact that you even know your iq may be the problem. Just kidding
You're so smart your over thinking it. Aiming the ball. It takes time for the coil and wick to break in.. Make another one. Do short fires with the the cap off. Add juice right to the coil. Do about 100 times. Then put the cap on, look at the did with your best tuff guy face and say to it. You better work! Then take a hit. Trust me it works..

Don't give up we know when you get it. Wow.

In in Houston. So if your close. You can come by. I'll set it up with you. I don't know what my iq is. But I'm married 23 years. Raised two good kids, fly jets for a living and mastered the did. It must be at least 80 or so. :). Just trying to make you smile. And don't bother flinging it at a wall. It won't break. Come over. I'll even give you a beer!

I do not like lists! lol
MMvapors.com is my new website!
This set will be available in the quantities we mentioned as all my products at www.mmvapors.com!
More or Less the set will contain:
1 DID D16 atomizer
1 Battery Holder 14650 with the brass button and top connector.
1 Battery Holder 14500 full Stainless still all parts.
1 Stainless Steel Top Connector with slices for using with other type of atomizers.
About 20meters Resistance wire
4 pcs of mesh 4cm X 10cm
1 clasic drip tip black us usual (I have sensitive lips lol) lol
No Batteries

Does this mean you are going to sell a complete PV battery case and atomizer? I just went to your site and didnt see it, guess its coming soon. I have sent some messages through the site and still havent heard back. I know your are very very busy but no one here is answering my questions either. I have question regarding the DID im getting, with all the new updates and the difference between the available new top caps regarding vent hole diameter. Thanks

You are over torching.
Cut your mesh I use about a 4" length. Hold it with something and torch the flat piece, if using propane just a few seconds on each area. Flip the sheet over and do the same to the back side. You can turn over a section that will be on the outside of the roll. Now roll the mesh ....no center hole needed. Roll it nice and tight. Now you can run it back through the torch if you want and quench in cold water to stiffen the wick. While it is still out of the DID wrap your coil (if you heat the wire first it will behave better as you make the coil). Once the coil is wrapped torch it just long enough for the coil and wick to glow red. A fly juice and burn it off twice. Pop it in the DID secure the wire to positive and negative posts. ( I use a finger to hold the top of the wick in place while I tighten the nuts.....you could also make an extra wrap around the positive post). Fire it up....minimal fiddling will be required. Fill with juice and enjoy.
This method is faster and has been foolproof on all my rebuild ables.

Oxidize both sides of wick or a few seconds on each spot. Roll it and use a nail I that helps to roll it. Torch it some more. When torching the wick, depending on how thick your wick will be in particular, focus most torching on the spot that will be around wick hole an up. So top half. Torch the whole wick once or twice and quench it. But the top give it the third. You're following text book so keep pressing.
Roll it right on the wick. If the space is too much between coils, you can carefully "unscrew" the wick from the coil going in the direction of the wrap so you don't catch that fold. Then between your fingers, compress those coils, reinsert the wick again in te direction o the wrap. Slide the assembly into wick hole and tighten it all down.
You should be able to at this point carefully twist to remove the wick. I it just slides up, it's too loose. If you can't twist it at all, too tight.
Do NOT be afraid to use a toothpick to adjust the coil. I say all this is this is one o the things that worked for me. And I was all like you. I spent the first week plus ready to test the DIDs durability by tossing it against the wall. Try a few, back off and take a break. Set yourself a time to just say "ok. Done for tonight. I'll be back tomorrow."
You're "a ha" moment WILL come.
