 I filed this under "100 uses for 30AWG Wire"

Yeah I used 100 lb test fishing line when I was a kid to clothesline the neighborhood bully in the ally behind my house because I knew he rode his dirt bike up and down the ally all the time and all the neighborhood kids got together and came up with that idea. In hindsight we could have seriously hurt that dude but we didn't, it caught him in the chest and just took him off his bike really fast and taught him a lesson when we all came out from our backyards and laughed at him all the way home crying. Served him right :D

Somehow I get the feeling that he didn't do that again.

Well, after ordering the wrong parts, I ordered the right ones today. Since I now find myself with extra regular DID extra parts, I decided to just go ahead and throw on a regular DID along with those shorty parts I ordered.

With the new UPS shipping, I'll finally be ready to take on the DID very soon. Can't wait!

Hehehe Will do, as soon as it gets here I will put it together in that configuration. I think it will look cool, but I don't think the mesh wick will work in it that way. Because the wick will touch the sides of the cone tank way before it hits bottom. I think in this configuration the only option would be a very very short mesh wick or a fiber style wick like Silica, cotton etc.

I think if you make a floppy SS wick (without quenching in water) it could work.

That is true, but I still think it would short out on the tank unless I keep it really really short. I do have some straggler pieces of mesh that I can possibly use to make a working wick for it. The really hard part is going to be keeping all the little bits and bobs from the cannibalism of the other Two DID's separated from the parts to the Gemini :D

Well THAT would be interesting. I definitely want pics

Oh yeah, Pics there will be :D This thing in my mind will look very much like a Sonic Screwdriver :D

How about a short 500 SS wick wrapped around a Nextel pigtail?

That is what I was thinking, Something like one of my true Hybrid wicks. Where I de-thread a piece of 3mm Silica and wrap the SS Mesh around it and trim the top to fit with the pigtail at the bottom, just in this case leave a much longer pig tail on it and a shorter piece of SS Mesh wick. The way this danged ceramic frays though wicking should definitely NOT be a problem.

Or......you could try the unoxidized route. Just jack frost the part that will be directly under the coil. Leave the rest flexible and unoxidized. Then it won't matter if it touches the tank sides or bottom.
