I have decided it is time for me to give up real smoking and would like to try my hand as e-cigs to get my fix. I looked around quite a bit and am still a bit confused.

I was looking at....

kgo: KGO (Riva) 1100mAh Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit - $42.50

and

ce4 carto: CE4 Clear Cartomizer (Clearomizer) for EGO and KGO - $4.50

This will let me use ejuice and vape all day correct? are their any other replacement/parts that I need to order at the same time?

Or is their a better option for an e-cig? I'm looking to keep it under 100$ but the lower the better. I do NOT want to waste my money on crap just to upgrade soon after.

Also.. What strength ejuice should I buy? I smoke about a pack of newport 100s a day.

A paste of my answer to another similar question:

Well,
I am an ultra-newb,here, but I did TONS of research.(YouTube is a great resource)

This is what did it for me:

510 Disposable E-Cig Kit with Blue LED

Got a few bottles of juice for under 3 bucks each. That way if you don't like the cartridges in the kit you can drip some juice on the atomizer coil...well like I said do some research.

This kit plus one bottle of juice and regular USPS shipping is barely over 15 bucks. This model puts out okay vapor and isn't a big conflagaration of equipment.
I am still learning and have an eGo type in the wings.

I am just sayin' for 15 bucks there's not much room for regret.(My only regret is not buying an additional kit so I had an extra battery to use while the first was recharging) Even a second kit would still put you in under 30 bucks, then you would have a pair of batteries,2 atomizers and two USB chargers.

30,40,50 or more plus shipping...well it adds up.

Madvapes is the titty on the kitty.

Their customer service is second to none, really nice people and almost unbelievably efficient.Try to get a living breathing person(on the first try) who can speak English WELL enough to actually get a bit of conversational chit chat these days.

Keep vaping and good luck

1) Get 2 ego batteries (upgrade model) I like the passthrough models because you can vape from your computer via USB, or your vehicle if you lose battery power.....but then again, you WILL have a spare...your call) $50.00
2) Get a Kanger T/2 Clearomizer $10.00
3) Get good juice, preferably American made
4) Our local brick and mortar store that has been in business for about 2 years really ROCK with knowledge and customer service.. I recommend them highly.

The 1100 mah at 3.7v is a great batt to start with-it has 510 threads which is important because you can choose your supplies from just about anywhere. It is also a bit higher voltage than the ego which is about 3.4v. A lot of this depends on how much you want to spend. I suggest the kgo because it it fairly cheap and think most should start low and work up just to see if they want to stick with it. Why spend a fortune if you don't like. Still be careful as there are many ripoffs out there.

I'd go with a variable voltage like the EGO-V. Being able to increase or decrease your voltage means you can customize the flavor, vapor and throat hit of your e-liquid. It's also a pass through, meaning you can use it while it is charging in your pc's USB port.
EGO-V Variable Voltage Pass-Through Battery - $24.00 :.

On the clearomizers I'd choose the CE4 Rebuild-able Clear Clearomizer. These are rebuildable so when the atomizer goes bad you can just replace the atomizer instead of the whole clearo.
CE4 Rebuild-able Clear Cartomizer for KGO/EGO - $5.50 :

It sounds like a great start! My first was a little 510, and it was great the first week, but the more I used it... the more I needed it.. (you know, that first week you're all gung ho this is great, then that second week it starts getting hard) and I was frustrated with the 510 and just a joy to be around I'm sure ;) I got an Ego Twist and clearo a few days ago, and it really would have been nice to have that from the start.

Good luck!

Oh the juices.. yeah.. good luck with that too. I have a drawer full of samples, and found 3 that I liked enough to buy larger bottles.

Hi Mekks. Welcome to the ECF. First congratulations on your decision to go in a different direction. The kGo kit you have selected is a tried and true dependable device. It operates at a higher voltage than ite eGo brothers that its based from. One fully charged 1100mAh kGo battery Should last most if not all day for you. Overall on the battery device you have a solid pick, and I like it because the kit also contains atomizers that can be used to taste test your new liquids before filling up a tankful of liquid you may or may not enjoy.

On the clearomizer(ce.....) they are not listing the resistance, which is important to know ahead of time. Lower resistance(1.8Ω-2Ω) will be hotter providing more overall vapor, more draw on your batteries, and sometimes overly agressive throat hit, Some folks need alot of heat some folks dont. Most of these type are in the 2.5Ω range which is a good middle ground for the voltage you have to work with, this way you get to see first hand what you do or do not like about these specifically. Those look like what is most commonly referred to as stardust type clearomizers. Every vendor has their own names for them but this is a generalization for that type device at this point. Generally the "clearo" you have selected is a solid performing unit, some are well built and some are not so well built. I have tried quite a few of that type and was never fully sold on them personally. I did however see that the site you have selected offers the rebuildable type ce4 units for a dollar more than the unit you listed, these types of rebuildable clearos are a mainstay in my vaping arsenal. I highly recommend those in place of the ones you had linked to. They are much easier to clean and service(which you will want to do every couple days). They also offer the user the opportunity to replace the main componant that Will fail(the coil head). These heads are less expensive than replacing the whole unit. Get a few of these to start off with if that is the stye clearo you want to use they will serve you well.

The only things I dont see on you list are liquids and standard cartomizers. Liquids are all personal prefrence, my advice would be dont buy large quantities of a single liquid until you find one you like. If you currently smoke a pack per day i would say to start with 24mg liquid strength, back that up with a minor selection of 18mg liquid in the same flavors of interest. Most new users vape anywhere between 2-5mL of liquid per day so plan to have enough liquid available to keep up with whatever demand you think you may need. This way you do have the option to back off a little if the 24mg is too strong. And lastly I would advise you to also order a package cartomizers and a simple drip tip. This way you have a uber reliable solution to vape with should the wheels start squeaking on your wagon.... Eventually you may start to experiment once you have a good grasp on vaping as a whole. This will get you a good start for certain. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

If you don't get a simple VV like an eGo Twist you are wasting your money. Every juice I have tastes the best at a different (even slightly) voltage. The KGO's and eGo T's are great but they will leave you wanting. Get a VV and you won't be disappointed.

There is a small learning curve to a VV, but on the forum, you can figure that out in no time.

Good Luck!

I agree that getting a couple VV batteries would be a great start, and a charger of course. You'll stay less than $100 with two eGo Twists, charger, and a couple "rebuildable" clearos. Grab a few extra atomizer heads for the rebuildables too. You can park the twist settings on 3.8 to get started and be just about where the kGos would have been.

So I could buy a few VV eGo battery's, and the rebuild cartos + extra heads and call it good?

Would these battery's be decent? http://www.nwvapors.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=263

Have you thought about eliquid that is where the expense really comes in? A kit is usually a one time purchase so get something fairly good. The juice expense continues daily. The main thing is to get started. The ego twist is an excellent batt but you need a juice delivery device and that is based on preference. Some like this and some like that. It's a matter of trial and error. With new quip coming out almost daily it's just a matter of deciding what works for you. If you have the funds get a twist kit. You will get tons of suggestions.

Would these battery's be decent? EGO-V Variable Voltage Pass-Through Battery - $24.00 :

You'll also need to get a USB charger and preferably a USB charger wall plug adapter. In my case as a beginner, I didn't know how or what to buy seperately, so I got a complete KGO Starter kit for $43. With it I also ordered some extra juice and blank BOGE cartomizers. I was interested with eGo Twist, but it was more expensive. So I settled with KGO but I'm very happy with it.

Absolutely. The Joyetech eGo-C Twist is IMO a no-brainer battery to start with, or to stay with for quite a while. I have a lot of fancy stuff and have been vaping and researching for about a year, on on a lanyard around my neck right now is a 650mah (milliamp hour - the smallest one - there's also a 900 and a 1000 that'll put an eye out it's so long) Twist fitted with a Vivi Nova 3.5ml version 2.5 tank/atomizer.

Shopping list:

Minimum of two Twists
Minimum of two Vivi Novas (so you can vape at least two flavors of juice)
Two chargers (in case one craps out)
Juice, lots.

You're done, and can now enjoy a very good variable voltage vape as you explore the hundreds of other options.

I'd pass on the eGo/kGo VV for now; I wanted to love it, but don't/won't until they get some bugs worked out. The button is a little sketchy, you can't use it as it's charging (even though it has a passthrough connection on the bottom), and you can't charge it as you do with other eGo-class batteries - namely, screw the 510 connection into a "dongle"-type charger.

At least I think the unit in your link is the same as this one reviewed by PBusardo .... A PBusardo Review - KGO VV - Hoosier ECig - YouTube

A post of mine from a while ago:

*****

There are many, many different pieces of vaping equipment out there, to say the very least.

None are perfect. Many are very, very good, and many have very ardent supporters.

I've been at this for a while; not as long as many others, but about a year or so.

I've bought and used many, many different kinds of gear. Joyetech eGo-T, Joyetech eGo-C, kGo, e-Power, Smoktech VMax, Joyetech 18650 mod, Smoktech Woo, drip atomizers, cartomizers, cartomizers in a tank, Phoenix clearomizers, Smoktech EMDCC (Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer), and more.

Right now, there is one particular setup that I consider a slam-dunk no-brainer as a must-have for just about any vaper, regardless of experience level or amount of gear. It just came out within the last two or three months, and it is the Joyetech eGo-C Twist.

For the first time in an eGo-class battery, you can have variable voltage [there is now the Ego/kGo VV as well]. That lets you achieve just about any coil temperature that you want on a wide variety of attachments of different resistances (ohms), and a wide variety of juices, each of which will taste better at a specific coil temperature. With constant voltage, the only way to adjust the coil temperature is to use a different resistance, which is a much more hit-or-miss proposition.

I am vaping with one as I type this, while my VMax sits. I was just talking with my friend Dan tonight, who I got off of a 42-year cigarette habit 5 months ago, and he is vaping on a Twist while his ProVari V2 sits.

There are many cool devices out there - the Volt, the Apollo SS VTube, the VMax, the ProVari, the Buzz Pro 2, the Darwin, the e-Power, the Reo's, the Lavatube, and many, many more. None of them is "the only PV you will ever own, need, or want". Neither is the Joyetech eGo-C Twist.

That said, I would like you to order the following items:

Three Joyetch eGo-C 650mah Twists. They come mainly in chrome, black, pink, white, and blue, but also red, green, and maybe some others.
A spare charger in case the one you already have craps out.
At least two Vivi Nova 3.5ml Version 2.5 tank/atomizers.
A lot of juice.

With this gear, you will have a very, very good vape while you figure out the ins and outs of all the gear out there.

The Twists are about $22 each, the Vivi Novas are about $14 each, and the charger (2 pcs.) is about $13. If you're feeling frisky, get a $4.95 lanyard and a trim ring to hold it onto the Twist. A trim ring is good to get anyway ($1.49-$2.49) because it neatens up the look of the tank-to-Twist connection.

I seriously doubt that you will regret having this equipment in your "arsenal".

one last question, with a standard 650mah twist battery.... what resistance cartos should I be looking for?

And thank you everyone for the warm welcome and help with this! You are all awesome!

No problem, and apologies for not specifically welcoming you - you've come to the right place. :)

One of the beauties of variable voltage is that you can use a fairly wide range of resistances, and simply adjust the voltage to achieve a fairly wide range of wattages in the coil (the resistant wire part of an atomizer that actually warms and vaporizes the e-liquid/juice).

This is from another post from the past:

*****

Variable voltage lets you be Goldilocks. She wanted her porridge just the right temperature. To get a variety of resistances of coils to just the right temperature, you need to be able to control the amount of volts that your device is delivering to it (please use only single coil cartomizers or atomizers unless you have a compelling reason to use two or more coils - you'll save battery power, and IMO get a better vape to boot). Different juices also want different amounts of heat, and there are variations among "nominal" resistances of any given device that variable voltage will allow you to compensate for.

This can all be demonstrated by a very simple formula that is part of "Ohm's Law":

Volts time volts divided by resistance (rated in "ohms") = watts (heat) at/in the coil. [V x V / R* = W]

[Resistance is more correctly expressed as "I" in physics, but I'm keeping it simple].

Consider the three heads in the Vivi Nova; 1.8, 2.4, and 2.8 ohms:

With a Joyetech eGo-C Twist, or any other variable voltage device, you can achieve any wattage you need to get a good vape, even if the "actual" resistance of the "heads" varies from the "nominal" resistance of the heads, which it almost always does.

I'd say that most people vape at between 4 and 8 watts per coil. Let's see how 6 watts can be produced with a Joyetech eGo-C Twist (or any other variable voltage device) with any of those three atomizer heads.

3.28 volts x 3.28 volts / 1.8 ohms = 6 watts [V x V / R = W]

3.79 volts x 3.79 volts / 2.4 ohms = 6 watts [V x V / R = W]

4.09 volts x 4.09 volts / 2.8 ohms = 6 watts [V x V / R = W]

A constant voltage device obviously cannot do this, so please do not buy one under any circumstances [unless you MUST have a ciggie-look-alike].

*****

Back to "real time" -

Now if you do get some cartos as well, I'd use SINGLE coil 2.0 ohm Boge's, and would get them "unpunched" so you can use them by themselves, or punch/slot them so you can use them inside a tank like a Smoktech DCT, MAP, J-, Phiniac (pricey but nicey), Mom and Pop's Submarine tank, M1A1, and the like. Lots of people use cartos in tanks, but there's a move underfoot toward rebuildable atomizers in tanks, the Vivi Nova being arguably the most popular one right now. That said, cartos are said to give slightly better flavor than a "stock" Vivi Nova, although the Vivi can be modified/rebuilt to greatly improve the vape in all ways. Confused? I'm not surprised.

It's really fairly simple. Please just get the things on the shopping list and start vaping as you figure out as much as you can or need to of the rest. Please bear in mind that no one will ever know everything about every piece of vaping technology out there, so please don't even try - especially before ordering SOMETHING. It doesn't have to be a walk-off grand slam home run; a simple bases-loaded triple like the Twist and Vivi Nova will suffice.
