I don't have a clue what the PG/VG mix is. It's American Red tobacco from Totally Wicked. It's giving off quite a bit of vapour with a sort of light crackle noise when I take a pull. I've watched about a dozen different videos about filling cartos so I feel like I've followed advice. I'm just worried that the drip tip end of the filler looks dry. Should it remain wet?

The crackling is a good sound. The filler should be always "grey and slushie" looking. When purchasing you could've have selected under "special instructions" the PG/ VG ratio. As to what the default ratio is idk. If need be cover the bottom of where the carto is connected to tank so no air is coming in. WITHOUT activating the PV suck in and this will bring juice from tank into carto. Just do it for maybe 2 secs.

There is bubbles coming out of the carto punch hole after I take a drag but that's just the equalisation in the tank right? If there is liquid pulled into the carto by drawing on the PV then air must displace it, right? I've reseated the carto in the tank and it didn't change anything so I expect that there's not negative pressure in there.

When you describe how to suck juice into the carto, do you mean cover the air intake holes where the battery meets the threaded end of the carto? I'm not quite sure what you mean. Sorry for confusion, just want to check I'm doing it right.

I put 20-30 drops in my carto and then filled the tank up. All went to plan but after just a few drags the rear of the carto looked dry (I pulled the drip tip off to have a peek). Is this normal?
It's not first filled properly and when you put the carto in tank negative pressure instantly happens. If it was first filled properly you should have quite a few vapes before having to top off.

Edit: I've used carto+ tank solidly for 9+ months and have learned all the tricks through trial and error. Although I now use clearos I still occasionally use carto+ tank.

When I first began vaping I burnt 3 cartos out because they weren't first filled properly. Thank Gawd for the PBusardo vid because since then I haven't burnt out a single carto. Boge and Smok Tech are presently having QC issues with their cartos right. Once they have them resolved I suggest you check out the "Resurrectors" aka Smok Tech 1.7 single coil cartos- the very best cartos for the PV you're using. Here's a review:

Good Luck.
P.S. Because of the pressure issue that's why I switched to a side screw tank- easy and not messy to fill and very easy to equalize. Don't know if they have it in the UK though. Look 1/2 way down the page and they talk about a few things I mentioned
Tanks - Mom and Pop Vapor Shop

The bubbles have stopped coming out of the carto hole now, and the juice level is definitely dropping. I still don't understand where I went wrong with the filling though. I followed all the instructions I saw!

Hi Matt and welcome.

An ego style battery like the Tornado is a very good place to start, but as others have said, I personally didn't stick with the tank system for long. But put it this way, over a year later and I still use my ego batteries despite owning bigger battery mods. They're my backup and my out and about vape and I swear by them.

You've got yourself a good basis to branch out later on with different atomizers and cartomizers, once you find your feet.

As for the information out there. Just be choosy about where you go for that info, you're off to a cracking start by coming to the ECF. Also, be aware that there are quite a few lobby groups like ASH who seem to have an agenda, and that agenda appears to be NRT. The picture is never clear at the beginning but it soon starts to become more so as you dig around and get your bearings.

Besides the ECF, another excellent community is UKVapers, and there are more still that offer similar support and knowledge out there.

Thanks for the additional welcomes and further info. It's all helping my education!

I found a couple of threads today that contradicted the bubble coming out of the carto hole theory. I've been vaping away all day with out problems and my juice level in the tank is dropping nicely so I think everything is working properly. I'd link to the threads but I can't seem to find them now, can't remember what keywords I used.

One of the guys I work with is using a vivi nova tank with atomiser that he swears by. Might pick one of those up once I've used up my dual coil cartos. I might try some single coils as well at some point, the fact that the juice doesn't reach the top of the carto might mean te second coil could become dry but I'm not getting any dirty burnt taste so I'm assuming it's okay for now.

Again, thanks for all the posts and advice! :) 24hrs and no analogs!!!

I'm having a great time vaping. It's really surprised me how easy it's been. I've had cravings like everyone, but I just pick up my PV and I'm good. It was my birthday yesterday (25 years young!) and I had one drag of my friend's Marlboro light just out of curiosity - I would normally smoke 20-30 of these in a single night. Given I was having a drink I was expecting to have a hard time, but to be honest it just tasted awful and haven't missed it one bit!!!! In the words of Charlie Sheen: "winning!"
