New member - Question about foul smelling 100mg nic liquid

I know this isn't the place, but I need to post 5 times to post in the appropriate forum.

Not new to vaping, it's come a long way from 2009 when we bought those fake looking cigs.

Anyhow, I am a DIY kinda gal and bought 250ml of 100mg nic liquid. I diluted it today and it smells
of kerosene or insect spray.

Should 100mg nic smell like this and be a yellow color? I have contacted the supplier (RTS), but they have not
answered as yet.

I was hoping to mix great juice, but I NOT going to vape this, even the diluted (30mg) stuff gave me a headache and stomach cramps
when I just whiffed it.

Very disappointed with first DIY mix, I sterilized everything, bought premium VG and PG, a very accurate measuring cylinder, wore gloves etc..but the nic liquid smells foul, really even diluted to 30mg it smells like insecticide.

Any thoughts of whether this is BAD stuff? Has RTS got a good reputation? I have read some similar posts about their liquid but that was 2011.

It definitely should not smell like that..not even close. I have 'good' 60mg VG-base nic from Wizard Labs and it's got a yellowish tint to it, so I believe that's fairly normal, but it's odorless as near as I can tell. I would contact your supplier and see if they're willing to replace or refund, but if it were me I'd just return it and re-order elsewhere, as you're gambling if you take a replacement from the same shop. Look at High Desert Vapes (they sell WL nic and believe they still have some stock left), MyFreedomSmokes (expensive for the amounts, but I've used it and it's fine), and of course once Wizard Labs picks production up again you can order there, excellent prices and selection of nic strengths in both bases.

High Desert Vapes are here in ABQ, I was in there the other day and they said they were low and didn't want to sell any. Their shop prices are sometimes 45% higher than online!

I don't want to hear any BS from the supplier that you should leave the top off etc...(I saw a post from 2011 suggesting this method to get rid of the kerosene smell). No way am I vaping that stuff, real shame too I was careful and accurate measuring and being chemically aware safe.

I knew there had to be something wrong, it smelt like something you'd remove paint with.

I've gotten concentrated NIC in the past that smelled like brake fluid and had a yellowish tint. The tint didn't bother me, but the smell was bad enough to make me chuck it. There will be a little bit of odor, particularly with high concentrations like 100mg, but it shouldn't be obnoxious.

I too wouldn't worry about the color too much. I have bottles of 60ml VG nic that is sort of gold and works just fine. The smell on the other hand might worry me.

I've only bought unflavored nic from Mt. Baker, but they don't sell 100mg. The highest they go is 36mg. Since I make 18 and 12mg liquids only, that works for me even though my price/ml is higher. Mt. Baker's nic always comes sealed, and always arrives with a nice aroma and clear color.

I have bought 100mg/ml nic, both pg and vg, for over 3 years now, and I dilute it down to 30mg and vape it unflavored.

I have never had it smell anything like you describe.

Something is very wrong - do not vape it.

I never had a problem with either of them.
Now you have me worried because I have 500ml of RTS 100mg on the way.
I'm sure it'll be fine but you posted this on the 28th, I ordered mine yesterday, it shipped today and the site's down.

AUG 19th. Shame I was in the process of working this out, but apparently they won't be answering any tickets until after Tuesday. A bit inconvenient as I am out of nic liquid and will have to go pay some outrageous price for a mix bottle at some vape store.

I didn't feel the color was anything to be too worried about, but the smell is another thing. Every comment I read from customers say clean, tasteless, clear etc..though customer service told me that it's perfectly fine being smelly and this is their usual product. Completely bamboozled by all this, customers say it's clear, tasteless and odorless, company says their product is yellowish and has and odor..Have to just wait another four days to sort it out.

Thanks. for the heads up, I won't be ordering from them if they were giving it away. Sure the site might be down but your in the middle of at best a conversation, at worst dispute. They have email or phones don't they? Very disturbing all around! If I was in your shoes I'ld get my money back & flee in the other direction.

Trust your body, don't vape the stuff & wash it off your fingers, you don't want that stuff absorbing into your body no matter how diluted.

Yes, please don't vape that! It could be the wrong strength! I always try to order small first from a new company, yes, you should be able to get clean and clear at even the least expensive places.

I just received 500ml of 100mg made on the 23rd from RTS today.
The wife says it has a light odor but it's not strong or "wrong".
It smells and looks right to me. About what I'd expect.
It's in blue glass in the freezer now.
Expecting another 1000ml of 100mg later this week and expect it will be excellent also.

Newly bought nic should be pretty odorless and clear. At least thats how I prefer it. As it ages the nicotine will yellow more due to oxygen and light. With the very hot summer we have had I am glad I did my nic buying in the cooler months but honestly I am sure they will provide you a replacement as it does not sound right to me. Smell is subjective and nicotine does have a smell its just a matter of opinion. There's a good thread called Nicotine Comparisions in the DIY section with alot of posts about people's opinions and such on various vendors nic.

Colorless and odorless nic is still a somewhat new thing. I have had RTS that tested perfectly, but had a yellow color and a somewhat sharp pungent odor, but not a solvent odor, and not too strong. If it is not to your liking, I would try to have it exchanged or refunded after returning it. In my experience, RTS is generally spot on for nic accuracy (tested about 6 batches over the years, one was a bit high, but not dangerous). RTS tends to be one of the more funky-smelling nics I have used, but I happen to like that. Its not for everyone, and if this is offensive to you, and lingers in a juice you make from it, I would see about returning it. I have not done this with Randy, however, so I don't know how that will be treated. I do know for a fact that Randy was one of the first to step up and improve his QC after the Box Elder issue. So the chances of it being off with nicotine is low, but not zero, of course.

If I could smell it myself, I would be able to tell you if this is "off" or just standard RTS. But if you don't like it for whatever reason, I would see about returning it. Chances are it is fine, just a bit more odor than some of the ultra-clean nics out there now. But a customer should be happy, at the end of the day, regardless.

I got him to smell the 30mg and he said it's musty, but didn't seem concerned too much, I don't think he was that careful about giving it a proper sniff.

The WL 60 is quite old as well, not until i was halfway home did i realize it expires May 14, so it's a little yellowish, but the odor is what i would expect. Strange in comparison to the other stuff which is 1/2 the strength and still has the funky smell.

I am only getting it in PG now, have a few coming from different companies to compare.

But thanks RTS, the company really came through and did the right thing, i ordered a smaller quantity in PG, I think a few people have had trouble with the VG.

I just dealt with the 1500ml of 100mg I got from RTS this week.
It is much clearer than the WL I've been using. The WL is slightly yellow but it's still excellent.
I enjoy both and have had nothing but rave reviews (with RTS and WL) from the people I make juice for.
