I wasn't going to mess with my DIY stuff tonight because I worked late. I had two friends drop by, and one of them wanted to smoke. I still allow people to smoke in my basement wood shop (who am I to tell my wife to stop?), so I took them down. I'll get the important stuff out out of the way first. I was not tempted to smoke at all. Nada. I didn't even notice it after the I caught the initial blast of odor.

I need to confess. I did DIY on an assembly table. With a partially finished cherry table on it. Some sawdust, too. I did all of it on a big scrap of formica laminate that I used to make some countertops. And yes, i am going to vape it even if it gets some sawdust in it. The table tasted good when I sanded it. Okay... that's outta the way.

I had 2 guests with noses handy, so I opened up the 3 bottles of nic and lined them up. I asked each one to smell them and tell me if they smelled anything. They both did from each bottle. I asked them to rank them strongest to least strong. One of them pointed them out strongest to least strongest "correctly". MFS > NN > WL. The second person said MFS > WL - NN tie. I smelled them when I took the caps off and again as I put the caps back on.

I thought that the odor of both the MFS, and the NN had mellowed out quite a bit. The odd thing is that the peanut butter tinge seemed to be gone from the MFS. I am happy to report that all 3 of them now smell identical. Strength of the odor was still MFS > NN > WL strongest to least. I am very relieved that they all have the same smell. The cap of the MFS bottle still has a little of that PB smell, but not the actual bottle of nic.

Before they left, I let them drip a little of our candy apple mix. I said our, because my first vaping convert, the best man from my wedding, kicked in half with me on all of this DIY material. He also wants to plan for the coming vapeocalypse we live in a blue state - it's coming fast... :facepalm:and wanted to learn to DIY. It just made sense to work with someone else. At any rate, they loved the TFA Candy Apple we mixed. I had some with some TFA sweet & tart in it, but they liked it straight up. These were no nic test batchs.

When they left, I called my buddy, and told them which one the other 2 guys liked. Then, I told him that all 3 nics now had the same smell. He stopped me mid sentence and said, "I couldn't put my finger on it last night, but I realized this afternoon that it smelled like the argon I used back when I was welding.". Go figure.

Do you think that there might be argon in the main stock that the vendors get from the original manufacturer? At least I am no longer worried. If the WL gets just a bit stronger, and the MFS tones down a little more, they will be identical.

Life is good. My next step will be to do the nic test on all three.

According to this article Argon has no odor but I could just about swear it does. I tend to think it may be something with the plastic bottles being used such as from a chemical sterilization process. Also it could have something to do with other chemicals lingering the air in the facility where the nic was bottled. Possibly flavor concentrates being filled in the same room as the nic which for sure is not the case at WL. If the odor was really strong I would toss it but if it's pretty faint just save that one for last.

Argon Can Be Lethal!

I've used nic from all of those companies and also just recently ordered from MFS and as you the 100mg NIC did have a distinct odor to it. But when you mix it down to your desired vaping strength (Mine was 14mg 65VG\35PG) there should be no noticeable odor. So what you need to do is mix down the NIC and see if the smell goes away or at least deminishes to bearly detectable. If you still have an unplesent smell contact the vender and ask for a replacement. I've delt with issues with both WL and MFS and they sent out replacements quickly. Theres no need to worry about if the bottle was opened or not they don't require the old stuff be sent back.

I ran another sniff test of all 3 bottles last night . They all have the same smell now, and the strength of the smell is about even.

I mixed up a 10ml of butterscotch at 6mg nic. I can not taste anything like what the nic bottles smell like. I am satisfied. I would order any of the 3 again.

As a matter of fact, I am going to order 4L asafp given the recent onslaught of legislative nonesense that has been happening over the last 2 weeks.

And since a few of you are getting familiar to me... My name is Mike.

Thanks Mike.
Sounds good.
We may need your address as well because I'm sitting on less than 1L:)

You guys are making DIY sound relatively simple and getting me thinking. The price may have something to do with it.

The fact that I live in a vapocolypse danger zone may also have something to do with it.

I'm going to have to poke around these forums to get a grip on how hard it is. Curious, why do you guys order 100mg and not 250? You're mixing it down anyway. Why wouldn't you want the higest concentrate you can?

I just got in my WL order of 60mg/ml nicotine. I ordered 500 ml and it came in a damn plastic bottle. Luckily I played it safe and bought some 120 ml bottles at the same time for freezer storage just in case.

Anyway, I did a smell test and it is completely odorless.

On another note, the bottle I got from HDV (labeled as WL) over a month ago is now a light amber color and still odorless.

Chas,
I believe they ship in plastic for safety. Less likely to break during shipping. :toast:

Cheers,
Steve

Edit From WL: "Wizard Labs Nicotine solutions are shipped in chemically resistant plastic containers for safety and to avoid breakage during shipment. For long term storage we recommend transferring the Nicotine solution into glass containers with airtight lids, and as little airspace in the top of the container as possible."

My freezer stored MFS was still colorless after 4 years. I had another nic that developed a tint but still vaped fine. I still have 30ml of 2009 MFS left for future test. Based on TH, the 4 year old stock didn't loose potency; seemed to have same strength as new stock. No freezer burn either; one of my concerns.

I'm stockpiling in 30 ml brown Boston bottles w/ polycone caps.

I have 500 mls and if I use it to mix a 150 mls of juice a month at 15 mgs this will last me 20 months. I would like to stock more also but how will it last if most only recommend its potency for a year even if its frozen? I purchased nn armor and that's supposed to keep for 2 years. I would like to stock up for years in lieu of the impending bans but with a short shelf life how would that be possible?

Marketing departments and lawyers love conservative expiry dates.
I live on the edge and use expired rubbing alcohol and expired distilled H2O.
