So I just ordered (this morning) a Joyetech eGo-T Mod 18650 2200mAh device. I'm not very well educated when it comes to batteries, but I've been doing some reading and now I'm scared to use the thing when it arrives. I want to be safe, and everything I've been reading sounds like the MOD's are more high maintenance because of the precautions neccessary one has to take to avoid potential hazards with the batteries. I know that the eGo-T comes with an UNprotected battery and it doesn't have vent holes. I've read that this can be a very dangerous combination and I'm reluctant to use the device now. So should I have my husband drill vent holes in the tube? If so, how big should the holes be and where should he drill them? Be specific please, we're only about a month into this. :) Also, can I (and should I) buy a protected battery and use that instead? Will a protected battery work in the eGo-T? I know I sound ignorant with all these questions. I'm all about convenience and I like EASY but I also don't want the thing to explode in my face, or catch my house on fire!

Any advice from experienced vapors is very much appreciated! I'm so happy I found out about vaping and LOVE being off the stinkies! I just want to be as safe as possible. I know all batteries carry a risk but I need some one to break it down Sesame St. for me so I know the best possible way to treat the device. I was thinking I could vape away until the battery needs to be recharged and I could plug it in to recharge while I sleep ... now I'm thinking I won't get much sleep with a fire hazard next to the bed!

I went through this feeling a little while ago after hearing about a battery accident but i did some research and from what i found onky stacked battery mods had issues. The ego has a battery cutoff so it wont discharge the battery too much. But when i charge batteries i like to stay close and awake just in case. Ive been vaping for a little more than a year and have yet to have an issue with batteries at all. I still use an ego twist and in my opinion its safe and you have nothibg to worry about. Also dont drill into it the battery takes up a large portion of the ego and you would have to take the ego apart to drill which is a little bit of a chore for a new vaper. Hope this helps and congratualtions on the switch from analogs.

If this is the Ego you are writing about:
EGO-18650-MOD-1.jpg

Then yes you need AW or protected batteries, DO NOT under any circumstances use anything other than Protected Batteries.
Otherwise this is lovely little mod, easy and simple to use.:)

My husband and I both use the eGo T Mod 2200mAh devices....and we LOVE them! I have "fancier" mods, but the eGo T Mod continues to be in high rotation and is about the only one I will use at night when I'm reading in bed! It's safe enough...and I use protected li-ion batteries and the IMR LiMn type batteries...no issues at all. Really nice mod....good choice! Congratulations and enjoy your new "toy". It's a winner! Perfectly safe!

I don't think the vapesafe or the short stop would be needed in the ego mod as its a duplication of the safeties built in to the ego electronics in the top cap. Though it would probably help make me feel safer.

Also, it isn't obvious but the ego mod and the regular ego batteries but i believe they do have a vent hole, in a catastrophic failure (very rare in an ego) the batteries vent at the button.
That said, I would recommend using a protected battery or a safer chemistry IMR battery.

Thanks again to all who replied. It gives me piece of mind to hear from other users! Fourthrok, I read your post and smiled because when I ordered the first starter kit, my husband took over my spare! He's an ex-smoker and vapes 0 nic juice. When I placed my order for the MOD this a.m. I thought to myself, I should've gotten two. Glad to hear it's a good choice. Can't wait to get it in the mail! So where do y'all buy your batteries? Online or can you get them at Wal-Mart?

I should have said this earlier.
I was at a vape meet in Glasgow a few months ago and saw one of these for the first time. I was impressed and would use one without hesitation. The new version that can be switched between regulated and unregulated output is very versatile.

Awesome! I am excited. Just freaked me out about the battery which I looked into AFTER I purchased it. <---- Typical me! I can't wait to get it in the mail. :mail: I wonder if I will notice a difference between what I'm currently using(eGo-C) Can't WAIT!!!!!!!!

OK, gotta say, if you use any ego device it is a unprotected battery inside and the circuitry is in the ego itself. Same principle here, it is in head unit that has button etc... So it is as safe as any other ego device. Of course, nothing is 100% safe so don't fool yourself into thinking that. But not anymore unsafe than protected batteries if it is kept together as a unit. Now taking the battery out and charging it is different story.

Btw, I have had one since July. Was great, but now hasn't been working.

As far as charging the battery goes, if you want peace of mind get a Liposack...
LipoSack.com

If you ask around the forums, you might get some recommendations for cheaper versions.
I was not interested in cheaper versions, so I can't help you there.
:)

The only way I would ever charge Lithium-Ion batteries unattended or overnight is using a Liposack.
And even then I put the Liposack in the sink just as an extra safety measure.

One of the beauties of the eGo T mod is the parts are easily replaced. If your switch head goes bad (electronics can and do fail) just buy another one for around $8. Most vendors who sell this mod also sell the spare parts. I bought two switch heads when I got mine so I'd have a back up and also so I'd have a spare connector to use when charging with the Joyetech Rapid Charger. I also have a couple of tubes.

I used regular eGos all the time before I got this mod...and yes there is a difference. The mod is BETTER!
