So I ordered a SS VTube from Apollo, and as I'm waiting, I'm starting to get a bit impatient... Especially since if I have to wait a month, should I just wait a bit longer for the new items coming out (Lava Tube with 3 or 3.5 amp limit or the smok VV mod) any idea when these will hit the market and at what price points? Part of me wants to just pick up a cheap Box mod to use as a backup... What's a good one to get? I know the madvapes VV is supposedly the cheapest, but from what I've read the quality/longevity isn't so good. I've seen 3.7V or 5V box mods for super cheap and I'm debating on cancelling my vtube picking up one of these to use for now (and as a backup in future), and waiting to see what comes out soon... What voltage would you recommend for a first mod? I'm still in the process of trying out new cartos as I've only been going for about a month so far so I haven't set on one specific brand or resistance yet.

Any suggestions would be great... Ideally, I'd like to keep the mod at or under $100, but could go a little more if necessary (but unfortunately not ProVari money for now)

Hawkeye,

My experience is that the Madvapes VV Boxes are really very, very good. Yes, they're just cheap plastic 3AA boxes, but they're well-built, way more durable than they look, perform like champs, and (of course) the price is right. 14500 batts are dependable and inexpensive (if you know the right sources, about $2.50/battery).

Out of nine boxes I purchased, one did fail after six months, but the rest are still working perfectly after up to a year of use. Because the Madvapes VV Boxes are built with a linear regulator with a 3-amp limit, they power 1.5 ohm dual coils better than any other VV I own (including my BuzzPro and iPro, plus my switching-regulator VV boxes). With dual coils and/or DCT tanks, these little suckers hit like freight trains and don't even breathe hard.

I also have a slew of 18650 and e-Power tube mods that I run at 5V using the special green NIMH batteries (I try to avoid stacking batteries if possible), and I like all those a lot, but my Madvapes VV boxes remain the workhorses of my PV stable.

By the way, linear regulators always run at full voltage and dissipate any unused voltage as heat, so the boxes stay cool when set to higher voltages---4.5 and above. They're not meant to be run at 3.7V.

Just my 2¢. YMMV.

I too have had a Mad Vapes VV box mod, great cheap mod. My only issue with it is the regulator as a chain vapor I did get hot and sometimes cut out. It's the best for $35 bucks. Personally I'd spend a little more for a VV Big Kazoo from Kalamazoo Vapor Shop best craftmanship around a a better regulator. If they are out of stock on the site give them a call and James and company will build one up for you.

Yep.. everyone seems to love their Infinity Pro. Never heard a bad thing about them.

I went through 3 of them, he either sent me a damaged one back or wrong color each time after i RMA'd my original one, i never got my order corrected, he told me "I F'ing give up".... last time i ever deal with anyone who starts swearing me at me because he can't get an order right. And the craftsmanship on the mods is too much like a college kid project for me.

I would get a cheap VV box mod to see if you like variable voltage first, then decide on something like the provari or a nice mechanical mod.

I realize you had a bad experience, and I can completely understand your perspective, but to me the IPro and BuzzPro look nothing at all like a college kid project. It's a simple device with a simple look. No one who has ever held my BP thought it was anything but a well crafted pv. Anecdotal evidence obviously, but just my 2 cents.

donnah,

I own both a BuzzPro and an iPro. Both are terrific, of course. I will, however, offer one criticism of the iPro, just so you can say that you heard one negative comment: The iPro is skinny and tall (5"). Stand it up anywhere and the slightest vibration in the room will cause it to fall over with a loud thunk. I do wish it were a little shorter (E-Power 14650 length would be ideal), but I understand why it's not---to accommodate two 14430 batteries. Anyway, that's my only gripe. Other than that, great vape, good electronics, well-made, decent price.
