I wish the "Similar threads" option was the old "Recent posts" (or whatever it was called) on the old forum. A "Site update" thread from 2010 isn't too useful. Neither are any of the others being recommended,
Many folks, site-wide, have complained about the very old results currently displayed.

The search results displayed in Similar Threads can be adjusted to whatever @classwife wants, or possibly, whatever the general consensus might be.

@alexj-12 can you please adjust Similar Threads half-life to perhaps 365 days??? Or maybe 730???

Thinking we could try that and see what people think???

Adjusting the value, for one year, maybe two years, back would be better and also much more useful for users.

Yes??? No???

Thoughts???

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A similar thread for the last update may not be useful in this case, but it's relevant so that tells me the function works. It's better than a site update thread having similar threads that contain merely the word "update", like to a geekvape mod or something lol. That would be irreverent.

If it ain't broke, please don't fix it.

Old threads are also useful. I very often search for old threads for old gear and whatnot. It's extremely still relevant to some of us - recent threads from old members prove this.

There are plenty of other things to iron out, this isn't really one of them, IMHO>

@classwife, what about adding a Help button somewhere along the main navigation bar???

@alexj-12, that is possible right??? Perhaps there is already one that could be enabled on the main navigation bar???

<See Below>

Classy, as promised from the Random DIY thread...
I do too. It is a very useful feature. I think a Help topic on Bookmarks, similar to what I wrote up pages ago, would be very helpful for users.

I would like to see help tags (see below) for many of the new features. Those would be very helpful for folks trying to learn about the various features available.

Also, a Help button, located on the navigation bar, that leads to a Help Sub where there would be useful how-to's and tips for users. @classwife, I'll post these suggestions in the appropriate thread.

There is an excellent one located along the bottom of the text editor (where we create our posts). See the '?', click on that and you will see what I mean.

This...

Those kinds of options can be utilized in order to help users.

The help '?' information Alex created and added (How to upload videos) at the bottom of the text editor is excellent. Are there more like it that can be enabled and customized???

Adding a Help button, to the left of the User name, that leads to its own Sub containing Tips and How-To's would be very helpful for users. The key is placing a Help button where folks will not miss it.

I've already written up and posted a few tips and how-to's in some threads. Those could be tidied up and then added to such a Help section. UncleJunkle and a few others have also posted helpful tips that could be included in a help section.

Classy, the Tips and How-To's written by users could then, perhaps, be submitted to you for approval, and/or final editing, prior to making them live??? Or to save you from doing extra work they could just be posted by users???

I think anything that can help, and adds incentive, for people to learn and use the newly improved system would be a major plus with the overall stated goals.

There are added features with this version of XF that people would likely use if they knew about those and how they might help/benefit them and were able to see how easy they are to use.

Watcha think??? Yes??? No???

ETA: Alternatively, is there an existing Help button that can be added to the Users Navigation bar to the right of the Bookmarks icon??? And, is it then possible to make that a link to a Help sub???

It has been mentioned that users are no longer able to post image/photo URL's into the text editor and have an image show-up in their post.

ETA: This is resolved. See post #432 below. This was an issue with US not knowing how the new XF release did this. All is well.

no different than before - img brackets were always needed for the image to display

Cool. Instead of adding IMG brackets you can also click on the 'Insert image' tool (Command-P on a Mac also opens it) and paste the URL into there.

Select 'By URL' then paste the image location into the 'http://' field.

And we get the following...

That tool likely inserts the IMG brackets.

Hey there! Could you let me know any specific functionality you're looking for and I can pass this to the team? I know the dust is still settling, so we do have a few things in the works right now to get things settled, but let me know if there's anything specific you have in mind :)

I'll put a List together.

But one of the Biggest is the Inability to Filter-Out Read Threads in My Watched Threads List. This was a Feature I took for granted in the Old Version because of it's Fundamental Simplicity.

So is the Watched Threads List going to be as it is now? Or is the ability to Not Display Threads that are Read, as it was in the Old Version, going to be incorporated?

Was wondering what the rating percentage represents and the significance of the number in the colored boxes. (green red and grey boxes at the bottom)
Is that perhaps archived data from the defunct since 2016 "Itrader" system?

Thank you
Cheers

You can control whether you see all your watched threads or just your unwatched threads by checking (or not) the "Unread content" check box along with "Watched Threads".

is that in settings, mike?
Click on Forums under the ECF logo top left of your screen. You should get a page with this at the top.

Screen Shot 2022-09-02 at 9.43.54 AM.png

Then click on Threads and you should get this with the options on the right side of your screen.

Screen Shot 2022-09-02 at 9.44.34 AM.png

At least that's the way it works for me.

Yeah... That is the partial Work-Around I am using now. But then I loose the Info on Who has Replied and when. As well as other Thread Info.

I would like them to put the Filters Options onto the Watch Threads list like it was before.

This Update is Supposed to make things Better. And Hopefully Attract More People (and then Subsequently More Registered Suppliers) because it is Easier to Use than what we were using before.
