Hi All,
I have purchased a Voopoo Drag S w/ Coastal Cloud Menthol 35mg & 50mg plus Salt Menthol nkd. Not sure what mg to use, so purchased couple different. The guy at vape shop introduced me to the Salt. I have purchased a pen type vape and of course the cheap convenient store ones in past, both I couldn’t take too harsh, cough my head off.
I am new to vaping so I don’t understand what pieces are named or terminology yet.
What brings me here today is, every so often, my new Voopoo Drag S, usually when it’s sit a few minutes or so, if I push button it will make a pop sound, just once. First time scared me and I didn’t want use it, but picked it up tried again. Has anyone experienced this? It still works fine. The pop is not consistent so I haven’t figured out what to do or not do to stop this one pop.
Hope these help get me off cigarettes!
Glad to be here!

Welcome to ecf @Tandra Mathis

I probably won't be too much help, it sounds like the combination of high level nicotine with the addition of menthol might be a problem depending on what atomizer you are using and the power level your Drag is set.

Do you prefer to inhale directly to your lungs, or fill your mouth with vapor then inhale like a cigarette?

Did i understand correct? U dont have any problem wirh coughing with this device and juice???

About the pop sound u hear...make sure to vape the coil in the recommended wattage range suggested by manufacturer....most likely is normal sound and may happen more loud or frequently when the coil is new....as long as u dont get any juice spiting in mouth you are fine.

It would be good to jnow what kind of resistance coil u use, if u vape mouth to lung like we do with cigarettes or direct inhale, and also what kind of VG/PG percentage juice u use

Usually a little poping at the start of the draw and also a little more quiet poping along with the draw, if the vape and is not spiting juice in mouth it just means there is good saturation to the coil...and most likely good flavour and performance...

Some atomizers and some coils depending their size of design may make the sound be more loud and others not so much..

It some cases may also show that u have a little over saturation cause you use very thin e juice meaning it contains more PG and less VG on a coil that is not designed to be used with sich a think liquid....

Sometimes disposable coils may pop all the time and wont preform that good and usually this come with spitback also and then u know u got a bad coil even if its new and u replace it...rare but happens

To me a nice short poping is good :)

Welcome to the site Tandra Mathis. I'm not familiar with your hardware, but sounds like that are not that uncommon and are usually harmless unless it spits hot juice back at you. It could be that the power level is too high for the coil. I get crackles and pops too, but so far, no snaps.

Hello and welcome to FCE, but backwards.

I've only experienced this with built decks, not from premade drop in coil heads or PnPs like the Drag S pod tank uses. I took some videos of the atomizers that I've noticed doing this. The loudest "pop" I've ever experienced this with, was the Uwell Fancier RTA (this time it was pretty quiet but still noticeable), and the Uwell D2 RDTA which didn't pop this time - although I had it set at a higher wattage than I normally do. The sound reminds me of someone popping bubble gum in your ear, but not the piercing kind - more like the small shotgun kind. I think it has to do with having the wattage set on the lower end.

Do you generally vape on the lower end of the recommended wattage, or even below the recommended wattage?

5 Atomizers I got to pop. Most of them have been sitting around a bit, so I figured I'd see if they repeated it. Some much more noticeable than the others, and the mic pickup definitely doesn't replicate the sound very well, but you can still tell it's happening.

I will add that I've never had anything bad happen as a result of the pop. I believe I've gotten a piece or two of tiny bits of cotton (not hot), but you'll likely never experience that in a PnP coil from your Drag S.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I've never used the kit you have but I have had the "pop" with both drop in coil set ups and squonkers with coils I've made myself.

In the case of my squonkers it went away after about half a day of use probably because the coil got broken in or slightly coated with use.

In the case of drop in coils I have only had it when I left a filled tank and mod upright for a couple of days while using another device.

What I did, which fixed it for me, was to take the coil head out, dry it of with a tissue both at the sides outside and down to the mesh inside. Once I'd done that the problem went away.

    Hope this helps!

I think I have it... playing with a mech mod as well as a normal regulated one. If you press your button and dont start drawing immediately, pressure builds up. The pop is the pressure when you release it. On my mech mod the other day I swear it nearly took my front teeth out. I guess when you are used to vaping all the time it hardly ever happens. Hopefully I still have teeth when I get to that point lol...

I was thinking something along this line, but more so in the tank building an uneven amount of pressure in the vacuum/syphon system. When it comes to RDAs however, it doesn't make sense since there isn't a tank to build pressure. The only thing I can think of is, a pocket of air forms inside the wick itself after it's sat for a long time. This would make sense with water tension properties; the juice that normally saturates the wick upon regular use, settles, wanting to cling closest to the outer edges of the wick near the coil. An air pocket forms, and is then stretched when enough juice has been pulled outward equally from that pocket (vaporized by outer coil) creating negative pressure in that pocket before it's released. I've never experienced this with a mesh coil RTA, which would make sense since mesh only pulls from one half of the wick.

Whatever it is, it can definitely be startling. I've stopped what I was doing a few times after it's happened to make sure my nose hairs and eyebrows were still present.
