There's also something of a difference between a "just stumbled on this forum through Google," and a "long time lurker, first time poster." I freely admit I couldn't vape my way out of a paper bag, but I did enough reading on the forums before joining to ignore things that are outside of my current abilities...which happens to be everything to do with anything beyond put the juice in the hole around the hole and bring an extra battery. LOL I could learn if I had the desire, but atm I don't.

Now I have a bro-in-law who, if he were to take up vaping, could pick all this stuff up in 30 minutes, would create a vape bar in his basement with spare parts that he just happens to have laying around and still have the energy to instruct me in the finer points of some boring aspect of this fine hobby.

Everyone has different skill levels and interests. I don't want people to tailor the forums to the uninterested and mechanically un inclined peeps like me where there are others who could benefit from the vast experiences of the veteran members.

Alright.

I'm tired of this, it happens a lil to often recently.

New vapers comes to the forum and asks for advice about their brand spanking new eGo kit that they are super excited about and then, if you scroll down a lil, in the replies, there is always an answer like this:

"What you need is a mechanical and an IGO L with drilled out air holes and build a 0.5 ohm coil."

Really? I mean.... Really?!?!?!

That to me is a huge lack of judgment on the repliers part and I am sick of it....

Guys... please use your common sense. Don't jump the gun and recommend stuff that people are not ready for.

Rant over.

Vape on!!

Jump in there and give good advice that a newbie can understand. Posting links so a new member can actually see what is being recommended gives you 100 bonus points. :D

It was me, wasnt it? IT WAS ME!

I think the only thing im really qualified to point out to anyone is that its nice to learn to rebuild Kanger heads/coils, cuz you can easily get all vape-happy when you start with some new gear and some know-how.

I dont have any of that fancy stuff: Russian 91%, Provari, Modded car batteries hooked to massive copper coils and hemp rope wicks in a giant glass fishbowl....

Mech mods, Top coils, Dual coils...quad coils (ok thats srsly silly but if thats your thing) are somewhat advanced and ECF can really be confusing already.

And I like technical things, but this technology is changing quite fast. I recall camping here on and off for many moons trying to figure out how I could just *vape*. I could not pick a piece of gear and put it all together in my head how it worked and what I'd be doing with it.

I think my little protank minis are somewhat user-friendly (and no piece of gear is perfect), so thats why I grabbed one of RiPs videos, listed some tools I used so that its easy to re-coil em, and put all that together in a blog post. Then I dont have to type that over and over.

I know ive pointed out the MVP 2.0 to some folks, mostly 'cuz I do like it - I wish I had one. I dont see the point of someone just kinda getting their feet wet in this jumping right into very fancy Mods. Just vape a bit first. And get nice juices and maybe do a bit of reading on DIY juice too. But maybe thats my frugal side.

If you have the technical ability to get all this at once and the cash to blow on it, sure go whole hog and post your results. But dont expect someone else to get what you did, lol...

..unless you are willing to send me a Purple Provai with the blue LED, cuz I liek that. And some really cool tanks that never leak and always work 100% kick-assly.

And a pony.

Oh and: I wish we had a very (I mean very) simple to understand video (more of a slide show) that points out what a batt is, a tank/clearo/carto, what coils are and wicks that would ORIENT a new user as to what they might want to do. Some folks just want to charge, juice up, and vape. And some love the hobby aspect of it, which is very cool...that kinda person will invent new Mods/VV/VW gear for the rest of us.

And then send me one for free and a big box of perfect vaping sauces too. Cuz I'm nice.

There are vapers and there are vapers.

Checking the sales figures by number, I think that the Evod's, iclear's and trusty ole CE4 and 5 are still leading the pack...

Lotsa folks just don't wanna be bothered with smoking anymore , but neither do they want to bother with with turning vaping into a hobby or even a science. They're perfectly content with their 650mAh ego's and ready mixed liquids and hey're the bread and butter of any online or b&m store. Nothin too fancy and nothin too rickety and most important of all, not something that has more parts than a jet engine or a handling manual weighing more than the item it describes... Folks that do a drive-by-look-see in some forums to get some rough pointers and are jes fine they way they are...

Then there's vapers who are utterly fascinated by it and turn it into a hobby, just like collecting stamps, building models, meeting up with friends for a few informal innings, whatever... Them's the ones that get curious: " Heck, I bumped into a light pole cuz' of all that vapor in front of my face - let's try if we can fog in an airport... Their curiosity is also a blessing, for it makes sure that e-cig technology doesn't stagnate.

I couldn't agree with you more. I happen to be a part of the 'I just want to know how to get plenty of nicotine in my system without having to build the mars rover here in my kitchen' crowd, and I can't help but feel wildly overwhelmed by some of the advice posts I've seen on here.

That said....I'd absolutely take a purple provari, mostly because it's purple. You can keep the pony :D

Hopefully the noobs aren't 6 and are able to sort through the posts and take what they need while leaving the rest. People post ridiculous stuff on here....take virtually every post ever made by Goodnews for example... hee hee.

Irrelevant posts and bad advice are half the fun of this place! I think our members have enough common sense to sort it out.

I really hate the term "noobs" whenever it's used so patronising and given no one was ever born a vapour it refers to something everyone was at some point. Forums can be an intimidating place for new people even the good ones and vaping is an area where it can get very overwhelming very quickly and put people off. What some have to remember is that 70-80% of people will never want more then something like an evic (level of device not specifically) and are happy at that point. Many of us vape on quite tight budgets and high end juice and devices are out of our price range but still you'll get advice to get a provari or mech mods and build your own coils. That's the area of the vaping hobbyist something a very small percentage of vapours are into I'm not saying it's bad or negative just not a level most of us want to rise too. ECF by and large is a great friendly forum with most people offering help and advice in the best way possible.

I'm starting to do my own protank coils in the new year having looked at some videos seem simple enough even I can do it but being honest that's about as technical as I'm getting and i recognise that's too high for most. Rule of thumb help people to walk before running with vaping even if they are enthusiastic to run.

Depends mostly on how it's used, properly stated it's not so bad, such as...

"When I was a noob I wasted far more money on junk, if you try this....you can avoid my mistakes"
or
"I adsorbed more nic through my fingers from spilling it than vaping when I was a noob, it will get better...:)"
or
"I was excited as a noob just to get any vapor, a little experience and you can be a vaper too"
or
"It's not a silly question, you should see my posts when I was a noob..."

in my opinion, I have a Silver Bullet and 2 other mechanical mods with an RBA just to say I've done it, but almost all of the time, I stick with the commercial products (VV/VW mod, Protank & variants) and chuck the coils after they go bad. Sometimes it's just "good enough" and I don't experiment any further.

Just give advice as if the person is an average joe. Not the hardcore 20 watt DNA20 guy with an RBA vaping at 0.7 ohms wanting to drown themselves in massive vapor.

I think it's important to keep in mind that most of us comment on and suggest what we're familiar with and what we feel delivers the best vape for us, as individuals.

When you first started vaping and had no clue at all what it involved were you hoping for the input from people who felt delivered the best vape for them as individuals? When you had no clue what an Ego battery was were you looking for advice from someone who just bought a Provari?

I would say far more people use cig-a-likes with prefilled cartos. They do so for the reason you stated, simplicity. They just don't come to vaping forums, they just order from people like Blu or Greensmoke etc or get them from a non vaping store.

Yea I agree with the OP when you first start you still trying to find something close to a cigarette. The last thing you want to do is wrap a coil. If the bug bites them they will be in to more advanced stuff soon enough. I think for the most part the people making these suggestions are fairly new them selves.

They found something cool and want to share it. I dont think they mean any harm.

I like to think I have more common sense than the average bear.

But I remember how much jargon and acronyms there were to learn all at once when I got started. I think it's asking a lot of a noobie to expect them to sort out what relevant and what's not when they haven't yet learned the difference between a BCC and a DCT, let alone a REO vs. a DNA.

Which reminds me, how about spelling things out for the noobs, instead of dropping all the acronyms on them all at once?

/me donning my PPE before the flames start. :p

I was on a UK forum earlier and some guy was saying he had problem with gurgling in his protanks and he was new and needed advice. He got linked to step by step guides to recoiling and messing about with cotton wool. This was accompanied by lots of members congratulating the guy who did the step by step guide and how cool and knowledgeable he is.

Meanwile the newbie thinks he is trying to translate latin. Seriously... ...?

Being fairly new to Vaping and ECF, I would like to make a couple of suggestions.

1. Have a sticky in the new members area that lists most of the acronyms.

2. Have a sticky listed with a link to Baditudes' Blogs both showing and describing the different devices and battery info.

THEN make the above required reading prior to first POST.

this would probably eliminate a lot of the repetetive post found in the NEW MEMBERS FORUM.

If this post does not fall into the parameters of the OP's RANT,
then by all means PM me and I will accept my verbal punishment.

VAPE ON !!!!!!!
