New to vaping. Need some advice please.

Hi. I am new to vaping and I'd like to buy a starter kit. I have some ideas of I want and what I don't want, and I have some questions. Any and all responses wiill be appreciated.
I don't want an analog look a like. I prefer a model that is manual. And I'd like to use cartomizers to start out. I'm thinking of using a mid-size model. Is there a mid-size model that will switch from a 2 piece to a 3 piece later on? Do I need an adaptor? I hope to find something that I will be happy with for awhile. I prefer not to upgrade soon.
Are there sample packs of cartomizers with different flavors?
Kgo was suggested to me. I saw a review that said the Ego can leak? Is there a problem with Kgo leaking also? What is the difference between the two?
Can I buy everything at one place?
I've been reading here for awhile and there is alot of information. I find it overwhelming.

I started with an ego, which I am still using, as it is working fine for me. I haven't had any problems with it leaking. I use a cartomizer on it - I think the leaking may have in reference to the ego-t tanks, but I'm not sure... I've heard good things about ego, kgo, riva, e-power, which I think are all in the same category. The ego is 510 threaded, while I think the kgo is 808 threaded, so as long as your other pieces have the same threading as the battery, you should be able to mix and match various things to try out (cartos or tanks or clearomizers, or the traditional 3 piece atty and cartridge). I have only used cartomizers so far though, but likely someone else with more experience will step in and give some advice on the others.

The main thing is to get 2 batteries, and several cartomizers (or atty/cartridges), and a sample of juices, so that you can find what works best for you. Most starter kits will come with these. You should be able to get everything from the same vendor. The vendor's forum has links to different vendor sites, where you can compare the different starter kits offered.

Welcome to the ECF. It can seem overwhelming at first, but the important thing is to get your feet wet, and then things will start to make more sense once you get started.

Yes, the kgo is set up for cartomizers. It doesn't need any tanks or special atomizers. Not sure what you mean by 3 piece. If you're referring to the tank/atomizer of the ego-T, then no. But that is where you run into the leaking problem.
The kGo is a 3.7V device and more powerful than an eGo, which is regulated at 3.3 or 3.4 volts although they do make 3.7V models, but they are more expensive.
Overall, the kGo is probably one of the most successful models for new users.
Many people stick with them for years.

Yes, but you generally want to avoid those. You will probably not be able to get the same flavor as was in a pre-filled cartomizers anyway. It's best to buy blank cartomizers and fill them yourself. You can get sample sizes from many e-juice vendors.

kGos can't leak. There's nothing on them to leak. The leaking referrs to the tanks that some eGos come with. That said there have been reports of juice getting into eGos through the battery connector. I believe they are sealed now, so that's not a big problem.
The kGos cost less and are more powerful.

Can I buy everything at one place?

Most times. You can buy a kGo kit with 2 kGos, charger, atomizer to test juice, and a box of 5 blank cartomizers at Sweet-Vapes.com for about $45. There are other vendors that sell it as well. I think you can get juice there as well, but honestly, the best juice and the best hardware usually don't come from the same place.

It is a lot. Take it a little at a time. Don't let yourself be goaded into something because someone claims it's the latest and greatest. Stick to the tried and true. There's always time to upgrade later. At first, keep it simple. Your first e-cig probably won't be your last and you'll need a backup anyway.

The options already given sound fine. Just remember to buy plenty of juice. When you're down to about 30 ml, it's time to order more. Remember, it takes a few days to order and get a delivery (unless you're lucky enough to have someplace you can just drive to when you run out)!

The 2 piece would be the battery and a cartomizer. The 3 piece would be the battery, atomizer, and cartridge.
The 3 piece is used when dripping. Most starter kits come with supplies for the 3 piece. If you want to go to 2 piece, than you just have to be sure to buy cartomizers that have the same threading and the ohms that you need. (no adapter needed)
The only time I can think of that you would need an adapter is if your vaping with say a 510 threaded battery, and want to use an 808 threaded cartomizer.
Leakage, if you have issues with that, will be in the carto/tank part, not the battery part.
Most larger venders will have everything you need to get started at their site.
Any eGo would be a good starting point for first time vapers.

As a good all around choice for a med battery and accessories you could go the Volt X. It can be used as a passthrough and regular battery. They also have prefilled cartomizers that can be refilled with matching juice they sell or blank ones that you can fill with other juice. So far, apart from disposable e-cigs I started with the only real PV I've tried is the KGO and I'm totally happy with it - so much so that I've bought two kits. I've used BOGE cartos and Resurrectors (hold more juice).

Whatever you decide on, stock up on extra cartos (or whatever you choose as a delivery system) especially if you also order a bunch of different juices! I made the mistake of not doing so at first and juices taste better if you can dedicate a carto to each one. That's not a concern if you're dripping, but I've yet to try that.

In addition to the great recommendations everyone gave you I would also mention that, if you can, try to get different resistance cartomizer/attomizer/ clearomizer or whatever since the devices your looking at are constant voltage. For example get some LR (low resistance) units =/< 2.0ohm and some standard =/> 2.5 ohm as you may want more or less vapor & throat hit and this will help you determine what you like better. Also I would recommend juices with different nic levels as well. Switching to e-cigs/PV will involve some trial and error and once you find what works for you (battery, cartomizer/attomiser/clearomizer and juice) you will begin to realize not only the health savings but the money savings as well. They are both true 3.7 volts and are manual. Manual is better because:
less chance of damage from juice
Auto batteries sometimes activate from loud noise
Puts you the vaper in control- if you need stronger vape hold the button down longer
I would suggest you buy a starter kit costing about $40.00. There are also discount codes for an extra 5% off. Off course you would need cartomizers, juice and a few odds and ends. Afterwards, if you wish to add on a tank, it'll cost you an extra $10- $15.
The Epower is equally good with the bous that the batteries cost only about $5 each when you buy additional but the starter kit is a little more expensive.
Understand all leaks comes for the cartomizers or the tanks- there are good tanks and horrible tanks out there. I use a tank and can lay it down, upside down and no leaks. While I sleep it lays on it's sid all night without leaks. Before buying a tank though get the hang of vaping first. The Kgo and EPower have 100 mah batteries- 100 mah= 1 hour normal vaping.

Any kind of Ego or Ego clone will do you just fine. The Kgo would be fine. Leaking isn't a issue of battery type, it's an issue of delivery method. Tanks sometimes leak. Attys sometimes leak when you're dripping. The newer style Cartos and Clearos (resevoir type, no polyfil) can leak too. Tube tanks can leak. It really just depends, a lot of it comes down to equipment quality, and user error.

Regular, basic polyfil cartos should not leak. Just fill them up, let them sit a few minutes, and blow them out, to ensure there's no extra juice. They won't leak. And you'll have no worries. I suggest you start with the cartos. All of the fancier stuff can come later.

Hi & Welcome to ECF! First off I want to ditto Vapoor eyes er's suggestions of either the KGO or the E-Power, with one typo correction: both of these PVs' batteries are rated over 1000 mAh, not 100. I bought the E-Power 14650 carto kit from Sweet-Vapes over 6 months ago to graduate from a couple different cig-alike e-cigs I'd tried, & it's still my daily PV. This is the kit I got: 14650 Black Carto Kit I chose it mainly because it's less expensive to maintain than the eGo clones, since its battery/switch/housing are all separate.

Sweet-Vapes also carries the KGO: KGO Black Atomizer Kit 1100mah I'd normally refer you to Dark City Vapers for this one but they are currently out of stock. The one I linked above is nicely priced but has the atty/cartridge setup with pre-filled cartridges. With either of these PVs I'd strongly suggest getting some low resistance (1.5 - 2.0 Ohm) *Single Coil* Cartomizers & maybe some 2.5 Ohm & 3.0 Ohm as well. I would stay away from the dual coil cartos on a 3.7 volt PV. Despite the hype I don't believe they can perform satisfactorily much below 5 volts.

For testing juices, if the PV you choose doesn't come with atomizers I'd suggest getting at least 1 dripping atomizer & drip tip. They only hold a few drops of liquid & are easily cleaned/refilled, so they quickly pay for themselves in the cartos they save. Ideally I like to have one good dripping atty at about the same resistance as each type of carto I'm using; dripping gives the truest idea of how a juice is supposed to taste at a given heat, and you will find some flavors/juice mixes respond best at higher temps while others need a cooler atty.
