New to Vaping - With Some Concerns

I am pretty much a closet smoker, smoking a half to 3/4 pack in a weekend, or a half pack a day when away on business or vacation. I dont believe I'm addicted as I can go a week or two without smoking and not think about it- but I do enjoy it. I heard about e-cigarettes and was intrigued. No more smoking rooms on business, no worrying about the smell, reduced health risk. I stopped by a local vapor store last week and was introduced to an Ego battery with a clearomizer and their own juice (menthol and couple of their own tropical blends). I instantly liked it. It tasted great, didn't smell and was very satisfying. I used it several times over the weekend and of course had zero desire for a cigarette. As a matter of fact the thought of smoking a cigarette is gross. vaping tastes good!

This is where my concern comes in. vaping is so enjoyable, I'm concerned that I could do it much more and become addicted to nicotine. I am using a 12, and it gives me that little buzz I like. I do not see increasing the nicotine, but wonder if I would enjoy it as much if I dropped to a 6? I will probably try a 6 the next time I buy.

Has anyone been in a similar position and had these concerns? How did you handle it?

Personally, I ended up enjoying vaping the flavors so much, I got too much of a buzz a couple of times at the beginning. Even though the 24mg I started on worked great for me (got me off smoking 1.5 PAD for over 25 years!), I immediately reduced my nic levels so I could enjoy more vaping. :)

I now have 8-12mg depending on the flavor of the liquid.

That's one of the great things about the liquid we use, it's very versatile, and you can get just what you need for your own personal satisfaction. :)

Welcome to ECF! :D

I'm the same kind of closet smoker, was rather, for a little over 3 years. I mentioned in another post that I really just like the 'act' of smoking, no matter what it is. So for me, I do vape nic juice just because I have always liked that little buzz. I somebody replaced my juice with 0 nic stuff I would never notice. Therefore, I'll be weaning down to 0 nic juice asap. I'd do it tomorrow but I see no reason to waste the tasty juice I am currently using up... Could you really develop more of an addiction from vaping low nic level juice vs. maintaining a 4-5 analog per day level?

To me it sounds like this......you like to smoke and you like nicotine but for some reason just won't admit it to yourself for one reason or another. There is nothing wrong with that, plenty of people smoke only on the weekends or only when they drink yet call themselves "non-smokers". I know there is a bad stigma about smoking but at the end of the day you just need to own it and admit to yourself that you like having nicotine in your system.....it's nothing to be ashamed of.
If you're worried about vaping way more than you previously smoked just buy low nic liquid. You are already getting way less nicotine per puff when vaping compared to smoking (at least that's what I've been told.....where are the studies???). Also, as stated above, you can buy flavorful zero nic liquid. Use the nic liquid when you want the buzz and zero nic when you just wanna puff away out of habit.

Anyway, enjoy yourself and be happy that you have the freedom to partake in all sorts of things that many in this world can't.

Oh no, I admit I like it. I am just not dependent on nicotine. I can easily go all week and sometimes two weeks without smoking. But vaping is so enjoyable, I could see myself doing it more than just on a Saturday, and becoming addicted.

For some reason the thought of moving to a 0 juice just isn't exciting. I love the hit and the little buzz. When I need to buy juice again I will get a zero and a 6 to try it out. For now I will stick to 1 or 2 days during the weekend. No vaping today even though I kinda want to..

I totally hear you on the guilty pleasure feeling. I am wondering if the 0 nic juice will still deliver the same kind of TH? Can a more experienced vaper give some insight there?

If you want to treat a little nic sometimes like a sometimes cocktail or beer, why not .. ??

There might be some reduction in the TH with 0 nic. You could consider using the 12mg you have...mixing half and half with 0 nic in the same flavor and get 6mg. That will give you your "little buzz" and not be a serious addiction risk (some...but not bad). You can even experiment and put just a bit more than half 0 nic in your 12mg. and get somewhere around 4mg which is almost like none at all..but still will have enough for a bit of TH and "buzz". Just a little.

0 nic has a little less TH but you can raise the PG level to make up for that a bit.

Saltyx, you say you can go a week to two weeks without smoking. Why do you smoke at all?
That hit and little buzz you like will become something you can't go without.
The thing is, once you become addicted to nicotine, and many other drugs, you don't get the buzz any more. At that point you use nicotine to stop feeling bad rather than trying to feel good.
Sorry for the preaching, I just hate to see someone flirting with something as addictive as nicotine.

I have smoked for close to 40 years. Now I am using nicotine patches for the drug and vaping to help with the habit.
I am not using nic juice because I don't want vaping to replace an existing addiction. I can cut down on the amount of nic in the patches without changing my new vaping habits.

I agree with Ang-EC, If you could do with out go for it keep vamping with 0 nic. If I understood correctly from all the reading that I have done after I decided to vape, you will get less throat hit with 0 nic. but also depends on the flavor, voltage etc.
I started vaping after 25 yrs of smoking 1 pack to 1 n 1/2 a day and 18mg of nic was giving me a buzz and headache so now I’m with 11mg and I have 1 or 2 bottles with 18mg that I mix that I have left.
so if you can go with 0 nic and enjoy vaping!!

I have somewhat of the same story. I quit smoking several years ago, but have always missed it. I missed the security of holding the cigarette and the hand-to-mouth action more than anything. When I found out about vaping, I had to try it. It has been a blessing to me! I miss NOTHING any more. I enjoy this much more than smoking. That said, I vape 0mg nicotine juices. I actually like that there is a little less throat hit. There are also no nic shakes and no nic headaches or nausea. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the 0mg juices. Just make sure you get a little higher than 50/50 pg/vg. I would go with a 70pg/30vg blend ... that has been the most enjoyable to me.
