Hello and welcome to ECF. Just like when you started smoking, there is a transition period to vaping. I find that e-liquid vapor to be denser than cigarette smoke. I started with an MTL (Mouth to Lung) device using 24 mg/ml e-juice. It took me a while to get used to the vapor. I have heard others recommend just taking the vapor into your mouth and exhale out your nose. This will allow the nicotine through your sinuses and that inhaling isn't needed. Good luck on your new vaping lifestyle.

Somehow in the very beginning I just started the mouth to nose style. It does work.

In the same sense, I don't really get a throat hit. But, vaping is different than smoking. Many want it to be the same, though.

If just switching, your tastebuds are probably burnt from cig smoke. I would just focus on getting the Nic and making the switch.

Ive been vaping almost 2 yrs now and i still cough, especially if i take too big of a hit.
Tried to figure out how long I’ve been vaping. At this point I’m guessing around 9 years. I find there’s three reasons coughing happens to me when vaping:
1. Too big a hit. This amount has actually gotten lower over time. I can’t vape more than 16mg mtl now. Used to be 24mg.
2. Phlegm build up from the hydroscopic base drying up and thickening my saliva. I tend to cough more in allergy season for example.
3. High strength Protonated nic. Less throat hit, exact same amount of coughing. Plus wibbly stomach and “heavy” feeling lungs.

Hello @vicky schaal, just had to look up about the SMOK Infinix.

It's a set output pod system, and sometimes people don't get along well with them. Because you have no way to adjust your vape experience.

A good idea may be to find a vape shop with a juice tasting bar, that will allow you to borrow vaping hardware for tasting purposes. So you could at least try a Variable Wattage device.

Because with VW. If the vape is too cool and sparce for you, you can turn it up. If it's too hot and dense, you can turn it down.

Welcome Vicky :)

It's probably more your vaping style that makes you cough. I have noticed that my pods will make me cough if I use a mouth to lung style and hold the vapour in my mouth before inhaling.

Have you experimented with a direct lung style? You inhale directly into your lungs...like breathing :) I don't know what causes it but it's definitely the case with me....

Another thing is that there is often a transition between the smoking and the vaping which can cause coughing...ie your lungs are trying to get rid of the tar etc. and also your lungs aren't used to the soft nature of vapour so this can make you cough too.

I hope this helps....the last thing we want is for you to end up on the death sticks again :)

Coffin nails is an old, but apt reference.

Especially when in these situations where someone is having a hard time vaping I like to mention them in a real and hard hitting way.....there's no two ways about it.....if you keep smoking death will be an early and undesirable feature in your life :)

I think coughing is a common thing no matter what device or nic. Salts produce less throat hit compared to regular. My wife has been vaping regular 18 to 24 nic and doesnt cough anymore, but when she tried higher nic salts, she coughs. When I tried the salts, it felt like air to me, so everyone is different. When I first started vaping I coughed a lot and what helped me was to hold the vapor in my mouth for a while, like 3 to 5 seconds, then inhale to lungs. After a week or so my body got use to it....good luck

Hi all, I'm new to vaping. I want to stop smoking so I bought the smok infinix. I got a good brand 30mg salt nic but I'm coughing every time. What juice would best deliver a smooth throat punch and be most like smoking?

Welcome.

I rather suspect either the nic is too high, your wattage is too high, or both. Nic salts (at the right percentage) should be smooth, not making you cough. Coughing was my symptom when I got here with WAAAY too high nic for my setup.

You'll have to do a bit of experimenting.

I never called cigarettes all those horrible things, personally. I called them my best friends, my killer of pain and anxiety, and occasionally, my Religious Entity.

I mean, if you're gonna SMOKE you should enjoy it. It really was only when I STOPPED enjoying smoking because I was so ILL that I got on board with vaping to start with.

I saw no need to denigrate my cigarettes and boy DID my body ever let me KNOW it was time to stop. I realize I'm not out of the woods yet on lung cancer and whatnot, but COPD was not something I was willing to AIM for.

Welcome and I hope you sort it out. I can legitimately call my vapes my "friends" and mean it.

Anna
