I have searched multiple threads and cannot seem to find answers to some pretty basic questions. I know they probably sound silly but my batteries were just delivered today and I am nervous about doing something wrong - I know, such a noob, right? I have a an eGo c-Twist 1000mah, a Vision Spinner 1300mah, and an assortment of Kangar T3s clearomizers. I purchased extra backup coils as well so I feel like I am in a good spot to start, just deathly afraid to ruin it all due to inexperience.

1. Where do I put this thing?
I am up and running with no major issues. I filled a clearomizer with some basic Menthol liquid and found the sweet spot with the VV, so far so good with excellent VTF. But where do I put it if I want to take a break? I feel like I constantly have to hold it and am worried about putting it down and having it leak. Is it okay to just detach a full clearomizer to stand it upright on the desk while I charge the battery? When I am not smoking should I always take it apart? I am nervous that one tilt in the wrong direction will mean liquid all over the place or in the wrong parts! I have been holding it upright nonstop except for typing this, and right now it is propped completely upright between my knees for fear of screwing it up with a leak.

2. How do I test small samples of liquid?
This is the big question that probably has a simple answer. So one of the basic things I picked up while researching this (and please tell me if this is wrong) is that you should always have a certain amount of liquid in the clearomizer (I read 1.3mL to 1.5mL) and keep it above that level to keep the suction and prevent it from leaking and gurgling. Well, assuming that is true, what if I have a small sample of a flavor and only want to test a little to see how I like it and determine if it should steep longer, without wasting a bunch? Then once it falls below that certain level, do I have to stop with that flavor if I do not have more to add more? Or can I keep vaping until it is close to gone and I am ready to clean and switch flavors? Do I really need to start off with at least 1.3-1.5mL when sampling, or is it safe to test out less to get a taste? I am just nervous about causing leakage or gurgling if it can be avoided. But these six little AiV samples are taunting me...

3. And if I grow tired of a flavor?
Can you just swap clearomizers to change flavors and keep the old liquid in the other clearomizer for later in the day? Or should it be emptied? I guess I am unsure of the best way to store everything and keep it all safe without unnecessarily wasting supplies.

4. Is there a such thing as 'too much charge?'
If I leave the battery on the charger for a full charge and it ends up being left on the charger for a duration of time after the light indicates the charge is complete, will this affect the life of the battery negatively?

:blink:I think I read some horror stories and psyched myself out! But I would rather ask silly questions now to make sure I do things right than screw something up because I did not ask for help, y'know? And please forgive me if this is in another thread already - just point me in the right direction if my answers are already here somewhere!

1. You should be able to set the battery and/or clearo on its side with no leaks. If assembled properly, there shouldn't be any leaks no matter what position its in. You can also detach and set the t3s upright. That's fine.
2. I use a small clearomizer (like an iClear 16) to test liquids. I put in enough to wet the wicks and puff a few times. In general, I like to keep my tanks filled, but just for a short time is fine. It's a pain to have to clean out the tank for just a few hits, though. So I'm going to get an LR bridgeless atomizer

http://www.vaporalley.com/510-LR-Bridgeless-Atomizer_p_258.html

3. Yes. I have an embarrassing amount of clearos rotating right now. Like 8. I am still newish, so I am trying to figure out what flavors I like.

4. If I remember correctly, you shouldn't leave the batteries on the charger for a long time after they're done. As in, not overnight. If you don't catch it for a little while I wouldn't worry.

You'll be fine! Everyone makes silly mistakes at first, there's a learning curve. But you have a good set up going.

Oh, and welcome to ecf!

Hi Kaitlyn
I can understand your confusion and questions

1. you can lay it down with no issues - you do not need to disassemble it except to fill it, but when you do make sure you use a small amount of paper towel and clean out the battery thread connection area (you will see small amounts of eliquid in there and it is normal but you do not want it to build up in there) - if you are going to put it in your purse you may want to shut the battery off - 5 quick clicks and the light will flash several times

2. to test small amounts of eliquid you will want to get a LR bridgeless 510 atomizer - Empiremods Bridge Free LR510 1.8ohm
only put about 3 drops of eliquid in it at a time and get some plain VG (glycerin) from Walmart to clear flavors (its in the pharmacy department - humco brand - usually on a bottom shelf)

3. yes you can put a different clearo on to switch up flavors - when switching flavors in the clearo try to stay with similar flavors ie fruit flavors in one clearo, dessert flavors in another clearo, menthol in their own clearo and if you need to change heads make sure you rinse out the tank assembly with hot tap water and shake dry

4. try not to leave the battery on the charger for days on end once the light turns green it is charged and can be taken off - do not leave batteries charging on computer usb port or in a car unattended

once you get used to vaping it won't be quite so daunting - you hear a lot of horror stories because the media is trying to villainize (is this a word) vaping because it is going to cost big tobacco, big pharma, big medical and the government billions of dollars in revenue if it takes off and everyone gets healthy

My next step will definitely be to read up on dripping. So much to learn!

Thank you! I feel much better now. I did read a little about the small clearomizers but it was not until after I ordered a bunch of the big ones. I will probably have to pick up a few of those with my next order.

Thank you for asking those questions (and for those who answered, too.) I'm new and had a lot of the same questions myself. Like you, I tend to be overly cautious sometimes. But it has served me well in life....I don't usually break a lot of things either.:)

I'm the one in my family who is always saying - "Did you read the instructions?"

Better safe than sorry, right? Glad I am not the only one!

I'll second what Mapultz said as well. I am nervous about these things too, and I've been vaping for over 5 months!

1) I wouldn't recommend leaving any top coiled clearos on their side, as they can leak out the top. Bottom coil clearos you can leave on their side, no problem. Leaking and gurgling is all a part of vaping and once you learn to trouble shoot your devices, it will be easy as pie to clean up and clear out any over-wicking.
2) For testing small amounts of liquid, you can "prime" your wicks by dropping a little e-juice on your coils directly, enough to saturate the wicks, and vape it without actually filling the tank. Just be sure not to vape the wicks too dry, or they will taste burnt as hell. 2-3 hits will work out on a primed and unfilled tank.
3) You can ABSOLUTELY keep "old" juice in a clearomizer and store it upright in a drawer or vape box or something. Be aware, that over a few days, you might get a little leakage out the 510 connection, but it's nothing a little q-tip and pipe cleaner can't fix. If a clearo is gurgling, first, try to vape through it, then check your connections and be sure you're not leaking out the bottom. If so, don't panic, just clean it up with some q-tips or a little rolled up vaper-towel (paper towel).
4) As far as your "too much charge" question, modern batteries, especially the eGo versions you have, generally will turn themselves off once they are charged (the LED goes off.) Most folks will recommend not leaving a charging battery unattended, but if that were the case, I'd also have to unplug my computer, phone, and tablet at the end of the night. You can leave a battery on the charger, even if it's done charging at least for a little while. It won't over charge. It could fail, for sure, and then you would have a catastrophic battery failure, but generally, this does not happen. If you leave it on the charger for a little longer, you will more than likely be ok.

Hope this helps! Cheers and VAPE ON!!!

Great first post, Kaitlyn. I have the same set up that you are using, except that I use an eGo-t upgraded battery instead of the twist. I just started using the Vision Spinners.

As has been said, you can set them on their sides and if everything is tight, there should be no leaking. At home I have 3 stands with 3 slots each that fit the ego-t set-ups. I am still looking for one for the Spinners. At work, I put them in my pen/pencil holder on my desk. In my car, there is a perfect spot near the emergency brake handle that fits either the eGo or Spinner. So I'm lucky.

The reason I have the stands at home is that I like to rotate flavors in the evening. So right now I have 4 clearos filled with different flavors sitting mouthpiece down in the stands (kiwi, peach, chocolate chip ice cream, menthol) so that I can just swap clearos every half hour or so. That way I don't get tired of one flavor. I seldom vape my all day vape in the evening and enjoy changing to completely different flavors. I try to keep my clearos no less than about half full, unless I plan to run it almost dry when I want to clean the clearo itself rather than just clean and swap the coils. So far it is working for me.

If I have bought a new flavor, I still fill the MT3S about half full and vape for a while. If after a while I really don't like the flavor, I dump it out of the clearo, but not back into the bottle. I know it is a waste of fluid, but I don't want to put the fluid from the clearo back in the bottle because I might want to give the bottle of the flavor I don't like to someone who will like it. I bought a menthol that I hated, but a co-worker loves. So I gave her the bottle of the one I didn't like.

Although I clean my gear fairly frequently, I do try to keep the same flavors in the same clearos, unless they are very similar flavors.

I've only been vaping for a little more than 3 months, so I am learning as I go along the vape trail. This forum has been a HUGE help to me and I hope you find it the same. The folks here are experienced, knowledgeable and supportive. Enjoy the ride and thanks for sharing your experience and asking questions. Much appreciated. Namaste.

Welcome! I am kind of new here and I can tell you that this place is great! the people are awesome and there is info galore.
I know searching is a bit frustrating but it's part of the forum experience!

I am still figuring out a ton of stuff, especially when it comes to cleaning tanks, coils, swapping flavors, Pg/Vg ratios etc etc....

Give it some time and things will start to click!

So, tell us about you, are you a smoker? ex-smoker? just vaping cause its awesome?

I am on day 11 of non-smoking, i dropped the smokes the day my PV came in the mail and i am still going strong!
I don't know what i would do without my vape!

I quit smoking a few weeks ago actually, cold turkey but was able to hold out because I knew I was going to order some vaping supplies and it would be worth the wait. Over the past year I had tried things from time to time like disposable Njoys, disposable Blu cigs, and Swisher rechargables but they were all very disappointing - always were just a complete waste of money for me and I always kept smoking. I knew I would love this new setup - very happy I made the switch!

Any of the Kanger BCC's rely on a partial vacuum. If it didn't liquid would just drain out of the device. No worries putting it down on it's side.

The only two places you may see minor liquid issues with a Kanger: You may get a small amount of liquid on the battery connector. This is normal - just clean it up with the likes of a Q tip. The liquids are actually non conductive so it doesn't hurt anything. Make sure your contacts are clean when you refill to get the best vape experience. Same with the contact on the charger too.

You can get condensation in the mouth piece, so turning it completely upside down without something to catch a drop or two isn't a good thing. Also, when you have it upside down to fill, put a small piece of paper towel over the mouth piece. When you unscrew the base and break the vacuum a drop or two can slide down the vent tube and out the mouth piece in the process.

No need to take it apart or remove the clearo from the battery - but you can.

2. How do I test small samples of liquid?

Clearos aren't the best approach to sampling liquids - for all the reasons you cited. It's meant for "volume vaping" with liquids you know you like. For a begining user a very basic, disposable dripping atty is a lot easier to use when flavor sampling. Something like this, for example:
Smok Single Coil 510 Atomizer - Stainless Steel - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes

You just put 3 - 5 drops in there, attach a drip tip, and vape. And repeat. They are easy to clean, reusable, and the standard resistance atomizers can last from weeks to months.

So you need one of those, and a drip tip. The biggest point of a drip tip is to keep your lips off the hot metal of the atomizer. So they all perform the same function. You can get a basic drip tip for a buck, or go as nuts as you want when it comes to colors, styles and materials.

See above. When it comes to the liquid level in a Kanger it's not that it won't work or you will hurt anything. And from one coil to the next this whole issue of what is an acceptable low fluid level can vary. The big issue is if the fluid level gets to less than optimum you may not like the experience as much.

3. And if I grow tired of a flavor?
Can you just swap clearomizers to change flavors and keep the old liquid in the other clearomizer for later in the day? Or should it be emptied? I guess I am unsure of the best way to store everything and keep it all safe without unnecessarily wasting supplies.

No need to empty - they make perfect storage containers if you just want to change flavors and pop on a different clearo instead.

One answer to a question you haven't asked though: The plastic in these tanks doesn't work for all flavors. In the most general sense, high citric acid flavors can cause the plastic to crack, so you do have to be mindful of what flavors you put in a plastic tank. See here for more about that issue: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/219179-lets-make-list-juices-flavors-crack-tanks-ce2s-clearos-40.html

4. Is there a such thing as 'too much charge?'
If I leave the battery on the charger for a full charge and it ends up being left on the charger for a duration of time after the light indicates the charge is complete, will this affect the life of the battery negatively?

There is, but the point of a properly working charger is it doesn't allow that to happen. There is far more hysteria surrounding this issue than practical concern. When the LED on your eGo charger turns green it stops supplying current to the battery and the charge cycle stops. At best, it's always prudent to take the batteries off the charger when you notice the charge cycle is complete, but nothing to be crazy paranoid about either.

Hope that helps. Welcome! :)

I did read a lot about this and stayed away from the high citric acid/sour/super fruity flavors and anything that seemed like it might crack the tank. Very good advice. I did a lot of research and luckily found this list before I ordered my juice!

Hi Kaitlyn, welcome to ECF. What a great post! And a well thought out purchase, I might add. You've been given some really good information. The only thing I'll add is this... if you don't care for the juices that are taunting you, set them aside for a little while (couple days to a week) and they'll probably taste different/better. It'll give them time to set up more.

Ok one more thing. I do sometimes put a small amount of liquid in my mini protank to test flavors. If I like it, great, add more. If not, I remove the base rinse it and start over.

Good luck!

Welcome to ECF :)

1. A glass works great to set your PV in when you need to set it down to keep it upright. While you can lay it down, you'll feel better leaving it upright. You don't have to, but I do usually take my clearomizer off the battery at night. I use empty medicine bottles or shot glasses to hold my clearomizers when not in use. :)

2. I do recommend a 510 atty to test juices. You'll also need a drip tip. When you're ready to use the atty come back and ask and we'll be happy to explain how to use it. Personally I do most of my vaping with my 510 attys but now-a-days thats not as common as when I started vaping. :)

3. If you are going to use several flavors each day, which most people do, you will need several different clearomizers. You can rinse and reuse with different flavors but you'll probably want several during the day. :)

4. Hopefully you've purchased a good charger which will stop working when the battery has reached its full charge. Because chargers can malfunction (doesnt happen often but better safe then sorry) it's best to take your battery off the charger shortly after its done charging but that doesnt mean you need to be waiting and take it off immediately. It's just safer to not leave your battery charging over night or when you are away from home. :) Use your common sense and you'll be fine. :)

Now, have fun with your vaping :) If you use common sense and patience you'll be fine. Oh, don't forget your sense of humor too  You sound like you are doing fine. :)
