I start my 5th year of vaping in 2014, I thought I would give my thoughts on the best way to convert someone you know and give you what I think are the best chances of keeping them vaping.

First - You gotta want to quick cigarettes. This is a must!! Commit to quitting, motivate yourself in any way you can. Personally I used money, cash, moolah. I was, with my wife, spending $600 a month on cigarettes, that was enough to get me going. Use your health, your family whatever it takes to get you going.

Second - Get Prepared!! I am of the thought we are creatures of habits. If you smoke cigarettes now, then start your vaping with the best "stick" type ecig you can afford. With empty cartridges so you can buy your own juice. Buy more batteries and chargers you think you will need. Trust me on this.

Start with a tobacco flavored ejuice, as close to the strength you smoke. 21mg if your a heavy smoker, 18 mg if your a medium and 12mg if a light smoker. These numbers are my suggestions, there is no magic answer.

Make sure you have plenty of batteries and chargers so you will never be without an ecig, ever!! This is a biggie, those who do not plan ahead and find themselves without their ecig jump right back to a cigarette, so be prepared .

Third - Pick a day, and that day will be the last day you ever smoke a cigarette. If your motivated, and are prepared, it will be a great day. Mine was Dec 31, 2009.

Fourth - Now your motivated, you have your batteries, your chargers and your juice, and you have picked a day. Its time to change your life forever.

Use the "stick" cigarette just as you would a real cigarette. This will get you used to vaping, you will get your nicotine, without a giant shock to your routine. So all the "habits" of smoking cigarettes are still there, except now your not slowly killing yourself, your "healing" yourself.

People fail to quit smoking because this "habit" of smoking we have had for years if not decades is disrupted dramatically, my way retains all the habits, yet changes only "what" we are putting in our bodies.

The first two weeks are the hardest. Vaping is not like smoking and you will notice the difference. You take longer drags with vaping, the nicotine will "hit" harder to your system, and you will have some minor changes, but they will be small and will disappear. These are small adjustments, and will be gone in two weeks.

After two weeks, judge for yourself how your doing. Are you thinking about analog cigarettes? Have you cheated and smoked a cigarette? If you have, go another week with your original setup. After these first few weeks, time to expand your horizons.

There is a world of Vaping ahead of you, maybe get an Ego battery and try a caromizer or maybe a clearomizer. The vaping world awaits you.

I rewarded myself with the money I saved the first month and purchased a Provari which to this day, works exactly as the first day I bought it. The single best purchase of vaping gear I have ever bought.

Setup a Vaping budget and your set to go, to continue your life cigarette free...

There is no one way to quit cigarettes or start vaping. I did it this way with little to no pain. I just hope it helps someone.

Happy New Year!! Vape On!!

You bring up a big point that a lot don't understand. Smoking is not only a nicotine addiction it's a mental addiction to the habit. The habitual rituals we do for smoking. Smoking after eating, smoking after :), smoking to get a break from the office all of those little habits are part of our daily routines. Remember to take your PV and use it and not look for that cig.

I'm glad this system worked for you and hopefully it will help others. And I agree that several suggestions - specifically the parts about having backups and starting with tobacco-flavored juices - are important

But there's one major point with which I disagree - the 'wanting to quit smoking'. I picked up an e-cig out of curiosity, the fact that I never had another cigarette was totally unplanned. I got one friend to quit smoking by urging her to 'just give them (e-cigs) a try'. I think the thought of 'quitting' would have scared her off but simply 'trying' them was not as frightening.

In other words, I didn't make the whole e-cig thing into a 'big production', just kept it low-key and casual. That works too.
