a Marlboro on my front porch when I was 15 at 3am (a friend's) and it was awful, but then soon my coworkers all smoked and I was on my way to a habit with Benson Hedges Menthol in 1980. I stopped while at college until after I got married in 84 working full time and school full time did me in..I've been steady since then with a five year quit between when I had my kiddos 1989 to 1994. .

Then a 2PAD bad habit until we quit and started vaping 5/30/14. We smoked three a day for the first week, then Ed and I gave all the tobacco, machine, tubes, etc to a friend. One of the best days of my life for sure.

I honestly don't remember my first cig  I know I tried them at a young age and I was a full time smoker at the age of 16. I don't even remember how I managed to buy them.

I do remember my very last drag off of a cigarette. The night of October 9, 2012 just before bed. The last three nights as a smoker, I would only have half a cigarette before bed. None the whole day but that last one before bed... That was the hard one for me.

On the morning of October 10, 2012 I woke up and didn't think from that moment on I would be a non smoker. That night I was getting ready to have that one before bed and I thought to myself: I could only choke down one puff last night. Lets see if I can do this without even having a drag.

That was it. No more cigs from that day onward.

Funny how the memory of those last few days are stronger than the first ever cigarette one.

I was 51 when I finally managed to quit. A quit that has actually stuck.

Don't know a date for either. - My tobacco use started almost 35 years ago with plug and leaf chewing tobacco and then ground tobaccos as 'dip' or 'snus'. I did that for a decade or so... then quit... then somehow picked up the smoking habit. Somewhere around the middle of the ~25 years I smoked, I quit for a year. Not really sure how that turned in to failure and I ended up smoking again.

Quit date.. I never marked it on the calendar. It was roughly now 5 years ago. Maybe as late as 3 weeks from now 5 years ago. I was helping out with some spring chores on a friends cattle ranch and my recollection is they were calving earlier than usual - and he had purchased a few hundred head that needed brands and fresh ear tags. Some old cowboy admired a lariat he saw hanging in my truck. He had a couple of tube mods - one being an original rough stack. I came away from that trade with a rough stack, a couple of used attys, a hand carved wooden drip tip, and a couple of bottles of chinese juice. He got that lariat and a small leather pouch I kept dry tinder and fatwood shavings in. ... I never had another cigarette.

My first smoke was in '94 when I was 10, had been smoking stolen salems and Carlton ultra light 100's given by my parents with the filter cut in half for a while thinking I was cool. Then my sister gave me a Marlboro red and told me to inhale the whole thing... yeah, that was the beginning....

The last cigarette of consequence was August of 2014 when I was raked over the coals and spent $240 on a VTR, some clero's and a bottle of crappy house juice. That day I realized that I could either quit and have the sickening empty feeling in my wallet be worth something, or keep smoking and have my wife kill me.

The choice was easy

I grew up with a best friend who was three years my senior so he was always my idol and I would basically do anything he did because I thought the world of him. When I was probably ten him and I cut out rectangular pieces of paper, rolled them up, and drew red tips on them and then pretended to smoke cigarettes. After we got bored of that we took our little fake cigs out to a field behind my house and just grabbed random shrubbery and stuffed them in our rolls and attempted to smoke them. I highly, highly doubt I did a lung hit with that but I remember him actually doing full lung hits and coughing hysterically. Haha, such hoodlums.

When I was 16 me and my buddy from high school walked down to a liquor store and after many failed attempts at getting someone to buy us cigarettes, we did the most sanitary thing possible - just picked up used cigarettes off of the ground or from the ash tray. Those little desperate puffs at the last few centimeters of a cigarette really stuck with me. I loved how it felt in my lungs. I was 16 in 2004. I had a really hard time sticking with vaping at first, but the last pack of cigarettes I bought was in November of 2014. I've slipped up when I've been drinking, but I don't crave them sober anymore.

P.S. I have a clean health bill and didn't contract anything from my escapades

I tried pencil shavings in a piece of rolled paper and cattails (both yummy), but had my first cigs at 13. I have smoked continually since then until Jan. 27,2014. That was the day my wife and I purchased our ego batteries and juice and Kanger top and lanyards and cases. Oh yes, we were told you need lanyards and cases. So we bought them! Neither one of has smoked one cigarette since. That's 45 years of smoking tobacco. God I am old.

I started smoking pipes when I was 16 in 1979 when I was reading Sherlock Holmes and Lord of the Rings.

The first cigarette was the winter of 1990 working in the most awesome smoke shop in Chicago and I decided to try some of the imported luxury cigarettes. Within weeks, I was an addicted Marlboro Green smoker. My last was in March of 2013, within two weeks of trying my first ecig.
