Newbie, but so far so good! Can you help with some advice?

Hi everyone! I'm a smoker of 34 years, who after watching my wife hospitalized over Christmas for asthma & pneumonia, and watching her walk down the hall toting an oxygen tank to be able to breathe at the age of 45, decided that something needed to change, AND FAST!! She's doing fine now, but I can't get that vision out of my head. We are both smokers, but she has not had a cigarette since going into the hospital on Dec. 21, and I have not had one since Dec. 31.

We both started out using disposable e-cigs, but the cost was more than smoking regular cigarettes. They stated that the e-cig was comparable to "up to 2 packs of cigarettes," but I guess they could say "up to" whatever they want. In reality, a disposable e-cig would last me about 9-10 hours, and what I usually smoked was between 1 & 1 1/2 packs per day. It didn't take long to realize that we were blowing through money like there was no tomorrow, but we rationalized that at least we weren't smoking anymore.

I ended up purchasing the eGo system from Apollo, and the drop in the amount of money I'm spending has been substantial. I'm very happy with the system, and I like the tobacco flavored juice from the same company.

I guess what I'd like to know is, am I going about this the right way? Is there anything I should know, like are there better systems to use? I intend to shop around & try various other juices & vendors, but any input from you "veterans" would be greatly appreciated.

As of now, I'm just glad to be off the cigarettes, and happy that my wife is doing so much better. She doesn't even use her inhaler on a daily basis anymore! vaping has truly saved my wife's life, and put a lot of health concerns to rest.

Thank you in advance for any/all input you can give me, as I really am flying blind, and have NO experience in this area.

If you're happy with it and its keeping you off cigarettes then you're going about it the right way. :thumb:
Some people struggle to find the right set up, and others just find it and are satisfied. if you're satisfied - keep with it. Congrats on the switch too.
Trying new juices is the fun part - I'd recommend buying small samples so if you don't like a juice you haven't wasted money on a big bottle.

As others have already stated, if what you have is working then all is true and well. :thumb:

You didn't say what juice delivery device that you are using. There are several options to look into if you are curious to see how they might improve your vaping experience. All of these work a little differently in how they carry the juice and produce the vapor, and everyone ends up liking one over another. So many options can be confusing to a newcomer to vaping, but in reality multiple options are a good thing. One might work better for you than another, and you will never know unless you give them a try.

I made a picture dictionary of the more common juice delivery devices here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3230-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-juice-delivery-attachments.html

There may come a point in time when you want to fine tune your flavors with a variable voltage eGo, like a Vision Spinner or Joye Twist. Most flavors taste better at different levels of heat, and a VV battery can offer you that opportunity.

For instance, a fruit flavor might taste best at 3.5 volts, a coffee or tobacco flavor might taste best at 4.5 volts, and a flavor like cinnamon might taste best at 5 volts. It's amazing that such a small difference in heat can affect how your flavors taste.

Congratulations to the both of you!

What delivery system are you using (what's on top of the ego)?
That can play the biggest part. I think clearomizers are the easiest way to go, so many to pick from.

Don't be surprised when you find tobacco is not your goto anymore, keep trying new Flavors
Check out TheVaporRoom.net for some eLiquid (gives new customers a FREE 15ml bottle, and everything Iv had from them so far is Yummy!)

Best tip: BACKUPS! And backups for your backups
(Hint: the blu ecigs are 510 connection like your ego; just in case, always nice to know)
Batteries die, all delivery systems do too, so to have extras for when it happens is very importent

You found a great community here, we have your back. Any questions you have are either answered here already (search) or ask us, and I know someone will have the perfect answer for you.

I am using a clearomizer. I just ordered a "wickless" clearomizer to try it out. What is the difference between using a clearomizer & an attomizer? I didn't even know there was a choice, but in reading other posts, I have seen that others seem to like using attomizers better. I don't know, I guess I just need to experiment with various devices. Also, is making your own juice a real option for someone so new & uninformed, or should I just stick to the vendor juice until I've been doing this for a while?

An atomizer is like a cartomizer without the polyfill. You can only use a few drops of e-liquid at a time. One drips the liquid directly into the atty, then he can take a few puffs. Then he will need to add a few more drops, and can vape a few more puffs.

Sounds tedious, and it can be. But this is the prefered method to vape for many people. They claim since there are no wicking materials involved coming in contact with the flavors, that what you taste is purely the juice.

RBA is generally for dripping, there are a lot that are also tank systems now. These are considered for advanced users.
They can give a better taste, but if you want ease of use, or don't have the time to fiddle with making coils, they can be a pain. I'd say give it some time before you try these. Also it's 'needed' to be able to check the oHms of your coils then, most use there APV to do so.

Atomizer: it's just the heating element that turns eLiquid to vapor, there is one inside every clearomizer and cartomizer (it's the mizer ;) ) atomizers alone don't hold more then a couple of drops. The clearo you have supplies eLiquid to the atomizer via the wick

I like bottom coil clearomizers, almost no wicking issues with these for me. I like CE3s (some feel its a pain to fill). T3s are nice (well some of them) there are really so many different types of delivery systems, you really have to keep trying different ones, and see what type you like the most. (I'm not a fan of vivi nova; I have a vision and boge, both don't pull as well as I would like)

Making juice doesn't have to be hard, all depends on what flavor your after, if its just dump in the flavor you got to some nic juice, it's simple math. If (like most) you are mixing Flavors, it can get complicated. (Think like cooking)
Until you get your taste down, in what you like, it's not worth doing (to me). If saving money is the main want for making your own, ECBlends has very very inexpensive ELiquids

(Damn you bad, always beat me) :D

Adding a few drops every time I want to take a few puffs doesn't sound like it's for me. Knowing how I am, I'd probably become frustrated shortly, and give up on the whole thing, which is NOT an option. I'm done with smoking, as my wife's life is more important to me than those stupid cancer sticks. With all the attempts I made in the past to give them up, I'm just so grateful that I found vaping to be such a great alternative, that I not only have used to help me quit, but that I really enjoy.

That's what it's all about! Whatever works for you to better you and your wife's lives.
So many options these days and more coming all the time.

Vaping is like smoking but BETTER (to me) I enjoy it, and turned it into a hobby, I think that
Also helped me quick, having that extra hobby
