OK, I hope I`m getting this wrong. I`m using prices from PureSmoker for a pen model as a guide, I think they are pretty reasonable.....

Please follow my logic for yearly cost :

To e-smoke I need :

- Cartridge: 1 per day (topping it) --> 0.69 US$ * 365 = US$ 251
- Liquid (*) : 2 mg per day (700 mg per year) --> 0.67 * 700 = US$ 466
- Attomizer : 1 per month (12 per year) --> 10 * 12 = US$ 120
- Battery(**) : 60 cycles, using 4 at a time --> 15 * 24 = US$ 360

Total : US$ 1,198 !!!! or around US$ 100 per month US$ 25 per week.

(*) According to TROG opinion given in some threads, I have no better info.

(**) : the batteries logic is like this : given the abuse they receive I assume around 60 cycles will be their usable life, if I need 4 batts at any given day to smoke constantly this means 4 batts every 2 months, this is 24 batts per year.

PLEASE :cry: tell me that I`m wrong !!! and why.

I see a lot of talk about the attomizers but they seem to be the least of the problems.

To have this under control seems to me the real challenge is in the liquid and the batts.

Thanks to all,
Jorge.

P.S: I recieved a mini kit from heavensgifts on Saturday. Today (Wednesday) : 1 battery DOA, the other battery is sitting on my night table with the light permanently on and not working anymore. So the rate these things go down is scary !!!!!.

:( sadly I tell u the true, e cig nowadays still in bad Quality.Just hope in future there is the one ...where u don;t need to worry getting extras..
just concerate on trying e liquids and getting :D

branded ones at least can hold u longer .

but if u are living in US or Uk is a good bet to continue...I should said ..since there is many US and Uk local seller.
one major bonus is waiting time , u bound to get ur goods faster.in two days the fastest.or even one day??

somemore u got the chance to buy e liquids.

whereas for me here , I have to wait longer to get ..sometime is kinda bored....only if I get from china , at most within 4 days the fastest I can get..

yup is kinda scary if u happen to be unlucky and get many faulty parts.
don;t blame the suppliers who sell u ...blame the china factories.

:Dfunnie even they got Quality control yet u also will bound to have faulty parts..:rolleyes:

Jorge ...

Regarding your battery that is stuck on. The pressure switch is actually stuck, and chances are, you can probably fix it. Grab a paperclip and bend it all out of shape. Now, take the long straight part and plunge it in and out of the small battery hole. This should hopefully loosen it up and turn it off. Then give it a few sucks and it should be good to go. If it was stuck in the on position and the atomizer is still connected, chances are, it probably burnt it up to a crisp. I'm hoping its disconnected. Once you get it off, give it a full 4+ hour charge and give it another go.

Now, on to your pricing. Lots of people actually reuse their cartridges. If you absolutely can't stand what the carts come with prefilled, then get cores. If you can tollerate (sp?) the flavors, then get prefilled ones, they allow for about 4-5 cig's worth more during any given day. You can also wash the cores every night, which will help keep costs down.

Now, on to liquid. Sounds about right, however, once 30ml and 50ml bottles are sold (some already are at JC, Jane, etc...), liquid costs get cut in by and third and up to a half.

Atomizers ... I suggest always keeping 2-3 on you at all times, this allows time to get replacements once one goes out. Whether I just have good luck or not, but my mini atomizer (that I use 16+ hours per day) is still going after 2+ months of use. In the beginning, you will probably go through 2-3 right off the bat. Once you get the hang of things, and you learn to take care of and see warning signs, you can save them many times, thus prolonging the life.

Batteries ... For a mini, 4 is a good #. For a pen, I go through 2, possibly a 3rd in a single day, but you always have that extra 5-6 hours while using a 2nd and 3rd to recharge the first. 4 is good to have for a pen, using 3 per day. However, most batteries are rated at 300 charge cycles. Although, after about 175-200, performance does decrease. You should get atleast 2+ months of good use per set of batteries.

Lastly, once you get past the learning curve, mixing your own juice, prolonging the life of carts, parts, etc... becomes second nature.

Be careful and take care of your equipment, and it will take care of you!

Good Luck bud!

Jorge,

You need to be returning some things if they have worn out that fast and were not working on arrival. I have not had to have new batteries every 2 months and so far after about 6 weeks I have not had to have new atomizers from PureSmoker, those have lasted much better than NJOY. They do have a 1 year warranty, but for weeks everything they sent had to be replaced within a week! The cartridges, you can use them more than one day if you are topping them off. If you take care of your equipment by cleaning it when needed, not overheating it, following instructions given on here for cleaning and have good equipment to begin with I don't think you will use as much money as you have listed. :D But I would return the new things that did not work upon arrival! They need to replace those. Good Luck to you!

As others said.

Your liquid costs seem much too high. Are you sure that you have the concentration right? 1ml of e-juice contains between 11-36mg nicotine, with 18mg/ml being the same as in 'high' nicotine cartridges.

Needless to say, nicotine at these concentrations is toxic when spilled onto skin etc, so handle with care!

Also I reuse my carts for a long time. I've been washing and drying my cores and I think my 50 mini cats will probably last me a year ;)

But yes, it's more expensive than I thought at first, especially when setting up. In the long run it will be cheaper though. I've spent the equivalent of 2.5k $ on analogue smokes each year.

OK, I'll add my 2 cents...

I was paying $36(US) a week for cigarettes, so at your numbers, I'm still coming out WAY ahead.

But, I think the failure rate....expectations are off. I am still using a couple of generic (pen) atomizers I bought almost 2 months ago. I have only had 2 batteries...go bad. By bad, I mean that they have failed (1-constant on, 2-vacuum switch failure), and not just "wear-out". I suspect I am not getting the same "usable" time from the batts, but I rotate them throughout the day, and 4 keep me going quite well (charging at work and at home as-I-go). I know they will eventually wear out, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that I will need 4 new batteries a month, or a new atomizer every month.

[Side note: I HAVE had 2 atomizers drop below acceptable performance. One was an Njoy (which they replaced at no cost), and the other is a Janty, which I haven't yet talked to them about, but i suspect it too will be replaced under the gurarantee]

I think if well cared for, the failure rates are way lower than it may appear by the posts in the forum and the performance can be kept acceptable (via cleanings, etc). It is a learning process.

Lastly, don't forget to factor the benefits of better health into the cost equations. Even if it comes out even in dollars, being healthier (to me) is a huge gain.

Many thanks to all for your comments.

I guess perhaps my initial estimation is a bit high but not so far off (perhaps I`m trying to lower my expectations).

In any case the excercise I did was basically to see if I could build a Business Case to setup a small venture and sell these things here in Chile.

If the maths are roughly correct there is no economic proposition here. I smoke 2 packs a day of the most expensive ones (3 US$ per pack) but most people get 1 US$ packs.

So I guess for most it is a expensive proposition. I think it can work on the health, being able to smoke in many places, no smell, etc.... But that will only appeal to high income people......well, perhaps it can work targeting those people.

Best Regards,
Jorge.

You bet! Look at the Blings and the stylish Minis (I love my 901b with blue LED, and you can now also get pink!) Then there are the many flavours and the option to go for lower/zero nic cartridges. But I think your richer customers won't want to bother with fluids.

The good news is that new gadgets filter down with time. The hardware quality will improve, so the costs may rival the mid-brand ciggies before long and even the less rich can join the e-smoking revolution :D Especially with the extended smoking bans!

The sooner you'll get a foot in, the better. Generate some positive publicity and get ahead of the competition.

well I hope mine doesn't end up costing THAT much. I've ordered quite a bit to get started and even that was only just over 100 bucks... I figure next I will order a few extra batteries and that's about it. The 3 atomizers (+ the one it comes with) should hold me over for a while as far as the hardware, and the 3 bottles of oil should last a long time.

Please do be aware of what they cost because when the Goverment aprove the e-cig as ...Eh ...!!!!... As somthng, we will all have to pay tax and prob VAT on them, depending on which way the penjulum swings.
